For subs right now I plan on walling my suv to the front seats and am putting in 4 18" Xcons. I want my front stage to play as loud as possible without breaking my budget of 5-600 dollars. This is what I have scoped out right now and please let me know what you think. Crossover on the sub will most likely be around 50-60hZ. I am looking to run double midbasses along with a midrange and tweeter in each door. They are Hertz HSK 165 components, HL 70 mids, and these crossovers: http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/Doc/pdf_3W20.pdf All of the speakers are 4 ohm versions. (Picture of this type of setup is also on the link) Could you tell me what they would be running at? I figured it was they would be running at 4 ohm per side when wired up, but got confused when looking at a bunch of different charts. I am looking to run this type of frontstage off of one of the new Zed Audio amps. I was originally going with the six channel and trying to figure a way to go active if needed, but I was thinking …

I have a pair of BL 15 1ohm subs. I wanted to keep the subs at 1 ohm. So I should wire them on one side of the coil - to + then connect the + on one sub to the + on the other sub. Then the - on 1 side to the negative on the other side. then a + and a - out to the amp. But instead of the - to the + on the same side I have the - on one coil going to the + on the the other coil. Does it matter?

hey guys on Fi's site I was lookin at their 12 inch IB3's and its not showing any cubic feet spec's for a ported box...... why not? I was thinkin about gettin those instead of the SSD's because they call for a lower rms and the xmax is more..... and they're a lil cheaper too.

  7. I am looking for a decent sounding 8. I've done some research and for me its between these 3 brands, mostly because i have found each one at a pretty decent price since im real low on cash and yet want one. A JL audio w0 or w3, Image dynamics ID8 v3 D2, or diamond audio D308D4 8". As far as the Diamond audio goes, i cant find any info as far as testing goes, but it has a 2.5" voice coil and i thought that was pretty cool, now that i say that im looking at the website and cant find specs for the 8 so i really am doubting it has that size voice coils. This will go into a small sealed box about .4cu/ft built by me. I am not looking for super-mega-head-hurting-vision-blurrin…

Hello this is my first post here. Ive been researching and looking at subs for a while trying to decide what sub to put in my 86 crown vic. Ive been pointed towards IA and have heard many good things about them thats why i am gonna go with the 187 15. I was gonna put it in a ported box. I have plenty of space for a box in my trunk I have looked and researched sub calculators and all that but still don't know how to determine the frequency and portsize or design. Im going for a mix of volume and sound quality. And would like to know how to pick the frequency, how to tune the box to that, and what portsize. My dad is a carpenter and i was gonna give him the demensions…

  13. I've been looking around seeing some people using some ridiculous amount of cheap subs to get a large amount of air displacement. What are some good 15" or 18" subs able to handle at least 250W to do this with? I have a project in mind.

Just thought I would let folks here know that the MJ-18M will begin shipping in about a week. I am just waiting for packaging. I had mentioned voice coil options and I plan to deliver on this. Very soon there will be a 2 Ohm and 1 Ohm version available. Those who want the 4 Ohm version can purchase them now - you will be placed in front of the order line. Thanks for your patience. Mark

Is it possible to tune a box low enough to protect the sub from the damaging fqs? My amp is an older JBL 1200.1 with no built in SSF. I was looking at either an icon 10 or 12. Main problem is I listen to mostly deep bass rap and I don't want to hurt the sub.

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting my dad some new speakers for his vette. I'd like to get him something that has good SQ, around in the 2-300 dollar range. It would still be ran off of the stock head unit. I think its got 5 1/4" in the door with a tweeter in the top of the door panel. I would probably also look into putting some deadener in the doors like second skin or something. Whats your alls suggestions?

??? what do yall think of oversized dust caps, i would think it would affect the performance of the sub, and effect the Sd as well, as the bottom of the sub is cone shaped and the surface would be drastically different ??? as well as oversized inverted dust caps please feel to post your thoughts ;D i have photoshoped out the Logo for obvious reasons

i was wondering if i would do any damge to any component of my system by using a dual 1 ohm sub, and a dual 2 ohm sub together? Also, for us dummys out here, what is the formula to figure the resistance when wiring like that? i know there is a way to get my resistance between 1 and 2 ohms that way, but might need a diagram, where could i find that?

For the longest time I ran my SPL15 inverted due to my box being just under 4 cubic feet net. I also made sure to reverse the polarity on my pioneer HU when I ran inverted . A few days ago I got bored and decided to mount the sub in the "normal" non-inverted fashion. HU sub polarity setting was set back to normal rather than reversed. The sub sounds much louder now and low end reproduction is much more powerful. I thought by putting the motor in the box would decrease net volume therefore raising the tuning a bit. Doing so seems to have had the opposite effect. Box is tuned to 37ish with sub mounted inverted. Can anybody explain why this happened?

Going to build a small sealed box with a 12" sub powered with my Sundown SAE1200. More for sound quality than spl. Been looking at these two. SSA DCON 12 and Sundown SA-12. Will the DCON hold up when driven with 600w ? I think it's rated for 300. Anyone have experiance with either of these? It looks like the Icon 12 would be a better match for this amp, but it is priced a bit higher. Let me know your opinion.
