  1. Started by Scarenius,

I plan on getting a SI Mag D2 15 in the near future and I'm wondering what kind of box I can make to get the best of it. The limits of the trunk of my car are 16" high, 16" deep, and 36" long, or about a total of 4.2 cubes max internal volume. Would it make more sense to go for a large (~3 cubes) sealed enclosure (Decware Wedge style) or a amaller (~3 cubes after displacement and port) ported enclosure? Quality of sound is the most important factor, but I'd prefer lots and lots of that quality sound. The more headroom I can get, the happier I'll be. It will be powered by an Orion 1200D. It will replace two IA LI 12s sharing ~3.2 cubes at 32hz.

  2. So, from what I have read and come to understand, a larger ported box reduces the power required for a given driver to reach its mechanical limits. My question, then, is if you have the space to build a larger box, within the acceptable range for a given driver, and are not concerned with space or weight, would there be any reason to choose a smaller box? Given the same linear travel, would supplying more power to one woofer increase control and/or speed of the speaker vs the other? Or, since less power is being supplied and therefore stored in the coil, would delay due to inductance be reduced? Any other factors?

Now this sounds stupid as fuck because if you read it wrong it'll sound like a useless thing to ask, but hopefully you'll know what I mean. It seems to me that larger woofers, or well, more cone area makes the bass sound rougher around the edges at high volume. Not like clipping, but not a pure smooth note like at lower volumes. It goes away a little with the door open so I can only assume it's the pressurizations effect? I like it but I don't know what to call it. I only notice it with lots of cone and sealed up, and mostly in SUV's. Not really a question but just curious if it's 10 years of shit speakers or i'm right. I think I'm right, my friend has BTL's and those are…

For each situation name the largest gauge wire you would ever consider using, (for amps, lets just say anything will fit) In a Competiton woofer: In a Super Tweeter: In a Mid-bass speaker: In an SQ woofer: Power cable for a Competiton amp: Mosfet in a Competiton amp: Ipod headphone voice coil: HU Power cables: Thanks, just wondering.

So I was coming home from work yesterday and I was bumping at a decent volume. I started to smell something burning, but it wasn't coil. I took a reading of the coils from the amp today and wasn't getting the correct nominal. Took the sub out and read the coils from terminals. One coil wasn't reading out at all, and the other was reading like 12. Took the coil out and this is what I found: Recone was done in November or so. This sucks.. =[

so i spoke with my dealer today, and to anyone who is not informed of this new information... please enjoy DD will be decreasing production of the "Holy Grail" 95Z. the reason is to make it more rare. They will be discontinuing the 91Z and 9Z series completely "I BELIEVE" they have now opened up an option called "Supercharge". this option you can apply to most motors and will increase the gauss AN UNGODLY AMOUNT! also the option will be available for neo slab subs, "Fi style" DD has launched that they now own the 3rd largest magnetizer in the U.S. which is why i believe the options will be available. looks like the 9500 H is about to become one of the baddest subs... als…

  8. so i have alpine SPR 60 c speakers in front of my car. powered by an amp. the left tweeter produces sound. but it sounds very weak at times, sometimes i can tell more so than others, in certain parts of songs. but sometimes it just sounds lower volume than the right side. sometimes it sounds almost crackly, like something is loose in the tweeter. not sure how to explain how it sounds. but ive noticed it, and done left and right balance to be sure. and theres quite a big difference in the left to right sides. so what can i do? and what should i check? im thinking it might be the wiring or the tweeter is dying? if the amp channel is dying, i wo…

Hi I have a 2008 BMW 328i Sedan with the standard Hi-Fi stereo system (1" tweets, 4" midranges, 8" midbass) I been looking around E90Post to see what people have been replacing their components with and found that most put Focal, MB Quart, Morel or Earthquake (for the midbass). However, after looking around other places, I saw this brand that calls themselves the best when it comes to SQ? The brand is Hybrid Audio and they have a bunch of trophies from SQ competitions. I want to put the very best as I drive this car a lot and dont want to be worrying about upgrading in the future. This is the "best" they offer = Legatia L841-3 Pro Component Speaker Set Exactly what I need…

I have $400-$500 to spend on a comp set and an amp. I've listened to a few sets locally (infinity, diamond, focal) I wasn't that impressed. However I have been researching on several car audio forums and have heard good thinks about hertz, cdt, mbquart, pgrsd and a few others. I can't say I'm more focused on sq or spl cause I like them both, want to feel it in my chest and hear the music loud and clear. If you can reccommend an amp with your choice that would be awesome. What is all the hype about the pg rsd? Is it because of the price or actual quality?

  11. I'm doing some research for my summer project and have a question about the amount of subs and power. Same subs and power, just different number of subs (I'm strongly considering Sundown's E8's). The question is, which setup would have more as far as output and low end? Less subs and more power per sub or more subs and less power per sub? Or, is it a situation where things would be pretty much equal (kind of like balancing out because less subs/more power=more subs/less power)?

Okay.. So last time I tried to design a box myself, a got the dimensions a bit wrong, there was a few things I wanted to make a bit different. I'm sure all of us has heard the emphasized S sound. The high-hat that makes you blink every time you hear it. I have always heard that tweeters tend to be personal taste and vary person to person but man is it hard for me to listen to a blaring titanium or aluminum dome tweeter for a extended period of time. I'm looking for some supplementary highs that are "smooth" so to speak. I have been very impressed with silk dome tweeters but i'm looking for other suggestions. They can't be like 25 watts rms too. I need a reasonable power handling Anyone care to share what they have in there ride? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_46848_Alpine-SPR-10TW.html ^^ What im l…

I have Hertz ESK-165.5 components sets in my car. I have my tweeters on -2 on the crossovers, but when there are "S's" and sometimes "F's" they seem very harsh. Everything else sounds fantastic though. Do you know the frequencies so I can turn them down a little? Or is there another way to fix this? Thanks.

Okay so i got a new car and I dont have enough room for the maw-15's anymore. And from what I seen on the mach 5 website the ixl subs are susbstantialy more powerful than the maw series. I have a '06 pontiac g6 and I'm looking to get a pair of one of the ixl's. im looking to go as big as i can and get away with it in my given trunk space. The 10's look extremely good for the price and power. Would a pair of those out-do my maw-15's?

My gf just bought a car and I'm helping her set up a system in it. I have an enclosure for a 15 that is 3.5 cubes tuned to 34hz. Would that be ok for a Level 2 15 being powered by about 500 - 600 watts?

How are these subs? Are they loud? Do the sound clean? How do you think they compare to the SSA dcons? I'm getting either a pair of the Level 2 15s for sealed operation, a pair of Level 2 12s for ported or a pair of the dcon 12s for ported operation. I'm looking to purchase one of these pair of subs today! Do the Level 2s get loud sealed? I just want a loud and clean setup. Either pair will be powered by 700 watts.

I've noticed that the level 3 subs have small vented requirements. I am looking to use two level 3 tens in a jeep wrangler. The enclosure size would be the recommended 1.4 cu. ft. (for both subs combined) using a 4" precision port for tuning. Can I start cutting or is this a bad combo?
