k, so my friend just told me that she will let me plan, order and install her new system for her (which, as would be for all of you, is very exciting for me) currently she has 2 Kicker CVR 15's in a crappy prefab sealed box im not exactly sure of the amp she has, but i would guess a kicker 1000.1 (or whatever their 1000 watter is called) Goals: she wants to be loud and sound decent, but definitely more SPL than SQ no competitions, just daily Budget: this is my favorite part. her exact words to me were, "well, i dont want to be in debt for like $5,000. but...." so i dont know exactly what that means, but she has some money to blow now, my first thought was to do 2 12" BL'…

I've posted this under Subwoofer/Enclosures section over on SMD but I figured I'd post it here as well since this is another DC sub forum. Any thoughts on what this could be? name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object> "> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscree…

So i just received my BTL about an hour ago, and since i just bought myself a nice touchscreen sony camera, i thought i would document the unboxing, install, and everything. But since i am a little frusterated with FI right now, i figure i would vent. I purchased a 12" btl back in December, and was 105% satisfied with quality and everything about the sub. I got bored of the 12" so i sold it and now moving up to a 15". But this time around, im left feeling a little doubtful about FI product. Ill post specs and then vent: BTL15 DUAL 1 | DUAL 2 Fs: 35.6 Hz | 34.6 Hz Re: 0.7 Ohms/coil | 1.4 Ohms/coil Qms: 5.72 | 5.90 Qes: .24 | .22 Qts: .23 | .22 Mms: 256g | 272g …

Ok now I need your guys unbiased opinion on which subs should I get. I will be getting a Sundown 3000D:). I have about 10-11 C.F to work with. Which combo will or has the potential to get louder? The BL's are less expensive but with the NS's I can always upgrade to another 3000D if I feel its not loud enough lol. Will the NS's be louder enough to compensate for the price difference? What do you guys think? This is what it will be going in below I will be taking the back seat out;) Thanks,

So I get tired of the "why?" and "that's just a stupid waste" so i just go and do my own thing. But here, tell me what YOU would do to get MY results. (not yours). I want super mad lows. 18Hz-29Hz. I do NOT care about 30Hz-60Hz for the sake of this argument. From 29Hz on DOWN. I have no HO alt (yet). I have 4 guage wiring all the way around. I have a BXi2608D that I do NOT have to use all of. I can easily turn the gains down so I get a super clean super easy 600 watts RMS if I want, but I have up to 2600 if I NEED it. I have 38" tall in front available, 32" tall in back, 42" wide to use up all of my hatch for an enclosure, wall preffered. I spent $240 shipped. IF I had an…

Well this wknd I got so pissed off... you know the type where you want to distroy the world. Anyway I through a remote(big TV remote) and the bastard thing smached into my sub busting the dustcap and slightly denting the top of the coil. Now Im going to try and fix it but need to know if i can use a domed dustcap where the previous one was inverted. will it change the sound/performance alot? was planning to use it for an SPL project as this budget sub gets louder then my BL and can take the abuse. It cant take a direct hit from a remote though. would appreciate your imput.

i recently picked up 2 15 inch RE destroyers...i thought they were MT's that had a recone. come to find out they are not lol. Apparently RE made 24 Destroyers. they are very similar to a MT with the same basket only painted dark gray metallic and have a slightly bigger motor. suppossedly they have 4 inch voicecoils and have to spl of a MT but better SQ too...only 24 EVER MADE! any info on these would be great cuz i know absolutley nothing about them other than they were used in comps by team toxic bass

Just playing around with my 1st TL experiment. It's ghetto, but sounds terifik for what it is. I have a cheap Walmart Regent HT-391 surround sound. I dropped the 5.25" subwoofer into a 5.5" cardboard tube I snagged from work 8'6" long. I believe that makes a 33Hz 1/4 wave. Once upon a time I had a TP roll glued to the cone for added mass experiments, so I tore it off so the black paper coating came off a little. I can't believe how loud and low the rear of the tube is VS how loud the driver end is... I wish I could do an 18' 22" pipe in my car for an IB3 22"! The camera is bad, sounds really distorted, but it's actually very clean and clear. I didn't do the 1/3rd-1/5 wa…

As far as sheer linear displacement (Xmax x Xmax x Sd) does anything have more Vd? I know there are some other very nice drivers such as the TCSounds drivers that have 38mm Xmax... what other drivers are in the same arena, if any, if not, whats closest?

Well we had our Focal rep come into the shop today, and he was telling me an another co worker about all the new Focal stuff. I happened to ask him about the Focal Grande Utopia Em and he told me that they are the best sounding speakers he has ever heard. With the 180K pricetag for a pair, I would hope they sound that good. But here's my question, the subwoofer uses some new technology where it doesn't use a permanent magnet at all, but instead uses a huge winding of wire as a magnet. What advantages does this yield? I though I heard someone say something about controlling the force of the motor also. I just want someone to simplify the function of this.

Well, after further examination, one of my SPL 12's is completely trashed. 2 of the tinsel leads are burnt and the surround almost came loose from the frame. Some slight tearing is obvious on the surround and the coil was somehow misaligned, you'll see in the pictures where it managed to rub against the pole piece and the coil gap. hey Mark, looks like I'll need some recones in the future Just some advice, don't paint the inside of the basket where the soft parts are mounted. The glue on the spiders and surround were coming loose. It was too easy to take the soft parts off. Even though these subs were beaten pretty hard, the SPL series is one of my favorite seri…

So I have been under the misconception that the main difference in build was spiders. I thought that the main difference between SPL subs and SQ subs was SPL had super tight multiple spiders, raising the Fs, raising power REQUIREMENT, where as SQ subs had 1 loose spider lowering the Fs and allowing the speaker to move easier reducing power "handling". I am now learning I am WAY off. I thought SQ subs were most efficient, and SPL subs were super inefficient power hungry beasts wasting power. So now I am hearing that... let's go with the Fi lineup for comparison: I see the BTL on 1 end of the spectrum has the largest permenant magnet, a solid pole piece...no pole vent. I b…
