I see the recommending tuning is from 27-33hz. How do those number compare? Is 27hz going to loose a lot of top end compared to 33hz? Does tuning on the lower end of the range actually gain a noticeable amount of deep bass production>

I have an Alpine 12" Type-R 1242D subwoofer and I'm currently looking at an Alpine MRP M500 amplifier. The sub puts out 500 watts RMS (dual voice coil, 4 ohms), and the amp puts out 500 watts at 2 ohms. First, how do I bring the sub down to 2 ohms, like people say they do? Also, does the amp need to be more powerful? After measuring the power it can put out specifically, it came to around 600 watts. Is that too low or too high? I'm looking for a good, deep bass, mainly for rap, just for reference.

Will 480 watts be a sufficient amount of power for this sub? What's the best box I should use for this amount of power? I was thinking the recommended 2 cubic foot tuned to 29Hz would be a good choice but was wondering if there's anything else I should consider if I purchase one of these subs. Thanks.

I was recently asked to do a recone on an mt 12. No problem, got the old softparts out and when I put the new softparts, the surround doesn't touch the landing on the basket. The spider is seated nicely, yet the surround needs to go down almost 1/2". The new softparts on the motor : Old softparts vs new The recone was bought from the local RE dealer and he also is confused by the spider / surround spacing. I don't think pressing the surround down is a good idea because it will limit up-travel. What are my options now ? Except for getting another recone....

I'm wanting to sale a sub I have laying around on Craigslist. I'm not the kind of person to screw someone over so while getting more pics a put the DMM on the coils.. That's one coil. Kinda strange on the other. First test it read 2.5 then after disconnecting the probes and I pushed on the cone. Reconnected at it shows 3.5. Not sure how to understand what's going on. My main concern is trying to sell a f'd up sub to someone. When I had it connected last it sounded decent. Didn't appear to be functioning improperly. No scraping or anything. Help me understand.

I came up with this the other day and posted it on SMD, I figured I should post it here too. Hopefully someone will find it useful. I'm sure most people here have come across the "12-16 sq in of port area per cube" guideline for slot ports and the "9-12 sq in per cube" for aeros. The problem with both of these is they only consider box volume. Both input power and tuning frequency, along with box volume, have a great effect on how much port area you need. This is why I've been recommending to people to NOT use those rules of thumb. Online you can find several websites (such as carstereo.com) that have port area calculators using the formulas developed by Dickaso…

Hello everybody, I currently have a hifonics ZRX1216.1D It can do 1200w x 1 ohm or 600w x 2 ohm or 400 x 4ohms. I currently have a soundqubed HDS2.1 12" 600W rms subwoofer, I don't remember off the top of my head but I think I have it set up at 1 ohm. Anyway, I'm not sure If I should spend 188$ and get 2 600w rms dual 4 HDS2.1 12"s, or go with 1 SSA Demon 12" (dual 4 ohm) and eventually end up buying a second SSA Demon down the line. I'm starting to want to get into more quality built subwoofers over just cheap stuff so I really want to go with the demon but im not sure if its really worth it. They are on sale currently though so thats very enticing. The box i'm curren…

I know I am asking a lot of questions, but if I can get answers then I will buy one of your GCON 15s. Need all answers please, from 1 person or multiple. Can just say 1) yes 2) no... etc. I have read (on these forums and others) that the enclosure is EVERYTHING, so that is the majority of the questions. 1) I am looking to buy a good SQ 15" sub at a decent price. Heard about the GCON 15". Am I correct, that this is a good SQ sub? 2) I want a sealed enclosure for better SQ and space saving. Does the GCON 15" sound good in a sealed enclosure? 3) Enclosure size. What is the optimal ft^3 size for this sub in a sealed enclosure? (internal volume- I will add …

Alright, I have a Chevy s10 extended cab, my friend has a Ford ranger ext cab with one audiobhan 15'', sealed box with 400 rockford watts going to it. Its acually a pretty chitty sub, but it gets the job done, right. So my question is, how can a put one 10'' in my truck to have a better "system" than his. I don't really need to be that much louder than him, but I want it to sound GOOD. really low and tight if possible from a 10. Im not gunna say a sq sub because I really don't know what that would mean. I have looked at the Fi Q10 with a Hifonics amp. Would this do it? Or could I go a little smaller with something like a Soundspliter or AA? The box would be custom built b…

I'm getting close to ordering the 15" DCON and will be building my first enclose with my buddies tools and expertise, but I've been reading and researching just enough to be dangerous. I've been on carstereo.com, bcae1.com, diyma.com, and a few others. While the smaller drivers t/s parameters do lean in favor of ported enclosures (along with much antecdotal evidence) the 15" appears to be more suited to the sealed enclosure. Example, the Fs of the 15" is 33.5hz and the 10" is 29.4hz. I haven't researched every subwoofer line, but this seems to buck the trend, big time, unless it's an error on the website. My biggest fear in constructing the box is that I won't have any…

okay i dont know about the rest of you, but i love hearing stories about how 'x' sub blew my friends away or my co-workers. the 'x' sub in this case will definitely be the magnum. so just post what you have accomplished or what other people have said after hearing it. i'll start. yesterday was the first time i've really let anyone see/hear my 15'' mag. the first words out of my friend's mouths were "holy chit that thing is massive". then they were all that thing moves soooo damn fast it's crazy! i've never seen a sub move faster than that. good stuff. post away people!

I got the CDT's 62 comps and one of the woofers has some tinsel lead slap. I was going to put some small feltish sort of pads on there to prevent this. Do you think it would affect the woofer to the point where it would change the drivers ability to to play?
