I am working through my front stage as time allows and have some questions. i was told "told" that a mid range speaker should not be placed more than the radial distance of its counter part's (high range) cone diameter apart. if it is then the phase should be reversed. is this not a situation that one would use time alignment and perhaps a bit of phase adjustment (not just flip it 180) to compensate for any audio impurities with a tweeter and mid range placed a good deal apart? secondly: I just got my new Hertz 25 tweeters today, they sound very nice outside of the truck. tomorrow i intend to hook them up and this will leave only mid bass to contend with. at present th…

Last I had the system installed I was running my 15" Ti in a 4.3^3ft enclosure tuned to ~24Hz with roughly 750w on it. Loved the way it performed but I sold the Viper, partly because I needed money and parly because I plan on keeping the Ti and didnt like not using the amp to its full extent. Im thinkin around 1.2-1.5kW in something around 3^3ft tuned to a fairly low frequency. What do yall think for a daily set-up? I dont have any programs any more, they are all on the desktop which is en-route to Norfolk right now so I can't plot the enclosure size and tuning to see how it would work out. I know Denim has a lot of experience with Ti's, anyone else?

looking at either 2 BM 10's ported or 1 Mag 12 sealed, i figure price will be about the same and box size shouldn't be huge issue. which would be a more efficient use of the power available?

I had a account here a while ago, but I guess it got deleted, wierd . But getting to the point, Ive had a 12" Mag still in its original packaging sitting under my bed for a few months now and its about time I got in a box. There were a few options I was looking at, I) 3.5 ft^3 at 32 hz II) 1.3 ft^3 sealed Looking for lowend output, hard slamming bass Probably gonna give it 600-800 watts, due to stock electrical system. Thanks for your input.

WEll, I had some other enclosures to build today so I decided I'd get a little playtime with the Magnum in... My baffle is pretty much finished up except for the cosmetics so I went ahead and hung it all from the deck and ran some speaker wire from my truck to the trunk of the Cutlass. Wow!!! This thing is AMAZING IB!!! GOOD GOD!!! I love this; I'm so happy with this application right now it's like getting laid! I don't remember the last time I sat in a vehicle with just a subwoofer playing and actually enjoyed it. Hell, I don't think I ever have until today. If anyone has the time and patience for this, I would highly recommend trying it. YOu will not be displea…

  15. Will playing 5hz below my enclosure frequency be harmful for my woofer? My enclosure is tuned to 33hz right now, but on a couple of songs the notes drop to 28hz. My SSF is at 0 (dont kill me!) and here is why: The other day I played with test tones from 27-35hz and tried to set my SSF to about 28hz... For some reason no matter how much I adjusted the SSF to only begin at 28hz, it would decrease my 30-33hz output as well... As of now I keep it at 0 and just be careful not to play anything below 33hz too loud. Not trying play 20hz notes or anything, just wanted to know if its harmful to play a few Hz below your tuning freq. Don't wanna kill my woofer! Thanks!

  16. In the interest in trying to do as Sean (///M5) had told me I needed to do in my ON/OFF Axis thread I've been playing around with everything. I've been going through crossover and EQ settings on the components in the van, I've spent time playing with the components in the Jimmy (I can't drive it, may as well work on the audio, right?), and I've also been slowly buying up some other stuff to play with. I bought the Dayton RS180-4 mids from Ricksi, I bought a pair of Aura NS3 3", a pair of Fountek FE85 3", and a pair of FaitalPRO 3FE25 3" full rangers all for the sake of trying to train my ear and learn what problems and anomalies can and are occurring in the hunt to get …

I got a question, everyone says that playing a subwoofer below the port tune will cause the subwoofer to be unloaded, and with too much watts it will "bottom out" is this unloading the subwoofer basically becoming a sealed box with a 4", 5",3" etc hole in it (loss of major amount of bass) , or the unloading making the subwoofer box be like an infinite baffle, decreasing power handling, but increasing efficiency? if it is infinite baffle, would it have a similar 6db/octave (i think this is close) roll off instead of a usual sealed boxes 12db/octave

I just wanted to know, Is there a way to calculate how much power handling drops below tuned freq in a ported box. And how much power handling drops in larger ported enclosures, Other than win isd. I mean is their an actual mathmatical formula or no? Like for example I have 2 Fi Q 15s with BP power in a box that is 9.5 cubes gross 8 after the port @ 33 hz. How do i figure out how much power handling I have in this size of enclosure and how much it drops below 33 hz? Or does everybody pretty much play by ear and listen for bottoming out?

  19. Figure this is as good a time as any to beseech some of you for your opinions on the matter of trying to match a few different subwoofer choices with a couple different amplifier configurations... I just recently got a Zed Minotaur III (not II, not a typo) and am so far loving what it has done for my DC Audio Level 2 10". Even after a couple days of use, I know this is an amp I can keep in my lineup for quite some time and I've definitely been bit by the Zed bug as a result of it. Seriously the cleanest, easiest-blending bass I've come across on a modestly-powered setup. There will be plans in the future to add a Leviathan III (or IV if one is released by the time I ord…

  21. Thank you for reading my post. I am a 20 year veteran of car audio system building, though my involvement has drastically decreased since becoming a Dad. It's time to install a system in my 2012 Scion xB. I have a Rockford Fosgate T1001-bdcp amp that does ~750 watts @4 ohms or ~1100 @ 2/1 ohms. Most importantly, I am an old school basshead who still listens to real bass music from the early 90s (Techmaster P.E.B., DJ Magic Mike, Bass Patrol, etc.). My bass CD collection is a source of pride for me. Anyway....I am looking for a single 12" or 15" woofer that will give me the 20-25 Hz notes that I crave. My maximum external dimensions are something like 22" wide, 17" …

  22. I have been out of the car audio game for sometime. One thing that has always been hard for me about car audio, is it is really impossible to say that brand x is better than brand y and that everyone has an opinion regarding their equipment or product line. Realizing that I also believe that there are products outside the main stream distrubtion that are equally as good if not better for less cost. This is where I want my journey to begin... I have ad 2 12's in a 2004 honda accord refiring. The sub brands were MTX 5000, Kicker Comp VRs, and JL 12w3v2s. (I realize this just dated my last setups......). Bostons for seperates up fron and coax in the back. Amps were on…

  23. ok here is my system: the head unit is a pioneer premier 750. the low/mid/high is all set to 0. bass is set at 0. sub control is set at 50 hz. and the level is + 6. my amp is a pg tantrum 1200.1 i'm using to push 2 12's in a 3.8 ft^3 box after sub and port displacement tuned to 30 hz. the bass on the amp is set to 0. x-over is down around 50 hz. i can only turn the gain up about 1/5 up and i hear terrible distortion. if i keep the gain all the way down and turn up the headunit a littl i get terrible distortion. i have my rca cable run on the opposite side of the power wire. these subs don't get loud at all before they distort. my 6.5's get louder than these wit…

I have a sundown saz3500d im going to be using to power my subwoofer stage. i cant decide what subs i want to run however. im stuck between 2 Sundown NightShade V2 D1 15's or 2 FI BTL N2 D1 15's (i havent found any videos or opinions on these FI's really?). those are my main two choices but i have been considering saving the money and going with 2 of the sundown z v2 D1 15s. Is it beneficial to go with the top model nightshades compared to the z? in my video watching i have been very impressed by all the sundown 12's. i have also been giving the nightshade v2 d1 12s, z v2 d1 12s, and 4 d2 sa 12s some thought. id really like to see 150db on music, maybe wishing too big, b…
