Subwoofers / Speakers

I was just wondering what are some of the best ways to keep impedence rise down. I have read that it doesn't matter much in daily but I don't see why that is true, unless it is only a db or so difference. Are there box designs that make a difference or cooling methods?

Just wanted some input and opinions !! If you were going to design and build your own Subwoofers from a basic entry level to an elite SPL driver. What would be your main concerns ? High BL ? Great Heat Venting ? Insane Power Handling ? Light Moving Mass ? High Sensitivity ? Stiff Suspension ? Thanks !!

im very interested in getting an LI 12'' in a sealed box but i dont know what amp would be a good match for it. i will be using as a daily driver im getting the knu 4 guage wire kit. budget around 200 there are tons of amps on ebay,just need help deciding. thanks

Just playing around with my 1st TL experiment. It's ghetto, but sounds terifik for what it is. I have a cheap Walmart Regent HT-391 surround sound. I dropped the 5.25" subwoofer into a 5.5" cardboard tube I snagged from work 8'6" long. I believe that makes a 33Hz 1/4 wave. Once upon a time I had a TP roll glued to the cone for added mass experiments, so I tore it off so the black paper coating came off a little. I can't believe how loud and low the rear of the tube is VS how loud the driver end is... I wish I could do an 18' 22" pipe in my car for an IB3 22"! I really wanted to get a Fi BTL 18" subwoofer for use in a car and possibly other various occasions. But I took a trip over to Guitar Center and tested out the JBL MRX518S. I was amazed with its volume and clarity. I have never heard the BTL so im curious if it can get louder/sound better than the JBLs even if it is not in a car. If anyone knows anything that would be a great help. Thanks. Also I understand that they are not really similar speakers, and I plan on using it more when it is not in a vehicle.

I just got a 16Kv.2 for free, the spider was destroyed, and the cone and coil were both seperated from the spider, does anyone have a recone kit? eD doesn't sell them anymore.

I have noticed some noise coming from one of the ssd's and took it out of the enclosure. turns out the tinsel leads have burned down some of the padding.I'd like to replace them to get rid of that terrible noise. so how do i go about taking the pads off? And i was thinking of grabbing some felt pads and 3m spray adhesive to repair. would that do me? Thanks.

I have a 1994 Toyota 4runner and I want to upgrade my speakers, mainly for highs, but for mids also. I'm eventually going to get some 8's or something for mids and upgrade in that area. I have a Fi Bl 15 and a Sun Audio SAZ 1000d on order. My car has 4" standard speaker mounts in the dash, but none in the doors. I have a Pioneer DEH-P5000 head unit installed and some crappy 4" speakers that are almost blown. I could probably fab some mounts for some larger speakers, but if possible I want to stay with some 4" in the dash. Any input on some quality speakers that I could get for under $100 a pair would be great.

Somehow i just discovered that the tweets are blown in my door speakers. Right now i have american bass SQ coaxials in there and i was thinking about going with their component line. The closest i have found to match the components that AB has are the pro series sm16-90 from soundstream. I have the amp to power them but wanted to know how they would sound in my doors, i have plenty of highs and bass to compliment more mids.

So im putting the ssd15 in a 3.5-4cuft box. Tuned to around 32... do i really need 4-4" round pvc ports? Could 3 6" ports work? Or is my math way off?

Alright so i'm going to buy an 18" fi bl before summer, but i want the plans for the setup before i buy. My box is 31"H 35"W and only 17"H, and will have a 3" port going along the 31"H, tuned to ~30hz. The sub will be on the same side of the box as the port, is that a problem? The only thing i could think of is that, im taking up 2 seats in my quad cab dodge ram for this, and because of the seat it will be set at an angle. Will the sub perform right, and what should i do, if anything, to my box since it will have the strain of an 18" sub on it. The only way i could get around this would be if i put it in the bottom corner opposite the port.. how does where i put the sub o…

I am wiring my d2 subwoofers to 1 ohm. When looking at the diagram below the outputs from the amplifier go to different different coils. I just wanted to know, Is there a way to calculate how much power handling drops below tuned freq in a ported box. And how much power handling drops in larger ported enclosures, Other than win isd. I mean is their an actual mathmatical formula or no? Like for example I have 2 Fi Q 15s with BP power in a box that is 9.5 cubes gross 8 after the port @ 33 hz. How do i figure out how much power handling I have in this size of enclosure and how much it drops below 33 hz? Or does everybody pretty much play by ear and listen for bottoming out?

i forgot i had this and found it in the closet. its got a small crack in the cone. what should i do with it. would it be worth trying to get someone to recone it? tried testing the coils and im getting all kinds of numbers sitting next to my icon thats waiting for a box to be built

so after purchasing the BTL i need to beef up the rest of the system. Im riding in a 2004 Ford Explorer. I was thinking two sets of RF T1572 (power series!). WRMS 70 a piece. thinking about powering them with a JL audio J2 320.4 (60 watts to four speakers.) Wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these products and any suggestions for other full range speakers? im looking to spend about 350-400 for 2 sets of speakers and an amp. I know its kinda cheap.... but oh well. The head unit is the Eclipse CD7200 MKII (soon to be that is =] i just want some and any input before i make this purchase!! thanks

Anyone ever used banana plugs in a system? I am installing a 10" icon and a 1000D and i was going to use banana plugs to plug the wire into the subs.
