I HAVE a set of discontinued Morel Integra Ovation 6 or 6.5" coax (point source) speakers. I had them installed in a vehicle I sold years ago but snatched them out of the car before letting it go. So I have had these put away since ~ '09ish I am virtually positive that there is a built in crossover in the back. There is a small plastic disc that simply peels off the back and I see what appears to be a capacitor or resistor whatever, among other stuff. IS THAT THE XOVER? your input is greatly appreciated and will keep me from pulling my hair out.

I have 4 6.5 SXMP mid range speakers that I want to run together in my Tundra. I have come across a Sundown SAE-600D mono amp for a great price. Will this amp be suitable for these 6.5s? Thanks.

I recently acquired a 15 inch MTX Terminator, all I need is wiring and an amplifier but I don't know how strong of an amplifier I need because of how old the sub is. Can anyone help me out? I really don't know much about sub/amp combinations. A picture of it http://imgur.com/a/qeulw

I haven't been able to audition these, but I've narrowed my front components down to this. Will be running a Sundown Audio 1100.5 and may drive them actively. It'll be in a 2002 Trans Am using the door structure where the tweeters are mounted low but aimed toward your ears. I understand the Focal sound is very bright and detailed and can be a bit harsh/tiring. However, my car is a bit loud and am afraid the Morel's flatter, warmer sound will be lost/overpowered by my subwoofer package, though I do prefer that sort of sound in general outside of the car. In addition, the Morels seem to have a better midrange/woofer that plays in the 50-3000hz range with a 2250 crosso…

  6. Hey guys, New here, but looking to complete my sound system. I'm pretty set on doing Hybrid Audio Clarus components for the doors up front with 150W on them. I'm debating on the rear fill, so may just leave that alone for now. So with that said, I'm trying to match that setup up front and will be using a Pioneer 4200NEX HU. I have the upgraded 145A alternator from the trucks on my car running an Odyssey AGM battery with 0 gauge wiring from the battery to the alternator. But for the subs, I plan to use this box: http://subthump.com/Pontiac-Custom-Subwoofer-Boxes-by-Subthump/Pontiac-Firebird-and-Trans-Am-Custom-Subwoofer-Enclosures-by-Subthump/93-02-CamaroFirebir…

So about a month ago I received my new icon. And a recone for my old icon. I plan on going from a single 12 to 2 12s in the process of building an enclosure. Anyhow.. so I did the recone. Dropped it in the Box ran it for about a week to break it in. And it sounds fantastic.. Heaven ran it hard yet. Probably never fed it more than 700 clean unclipped Watts (if that) anyhow it sounds great. So I pulled it out and dropped in the new icon. Breaking it in just like the recone. Sounded great then yesterday I started noticing a "slight" buzzing/scratching sound at a certain bass note at high and low volumes. A specific song would come on, and would have that bass note and I cou…

I have a collection of some older subs and some newer subs. All are working. I can use series/parallel wiring to obtain pretty much any total load I want. Is there a way to check to see if any individual sub is less output than the rest?

  9. Hi guys I helped my buddy make a box for a rockford p3 slim 12 he picked up. I was curious as to how it would sound. And excited because I've seen videos online and never heard one in person. We built a to spec box using the Rockford website and I tuned it to 35. Seeing as how it's a shallow I didn't think there was need to hit low bass. Anyways it sound s pretty good. Not hat I was hoping lol. But as the weeks go by and I hear him pulling into work, it's really underwhelming. So I wanna get him an 8 if it's gonna be a dramatic change. His truck is a single cab Ford F-150 in the early 90s. Not so sure. It's real tight behind the seat. But I checked out some …

  11. I came up with this the other day and posted it on SMD, I figured I should post it here too. Hopefully someone will find it useful. I'm sure most people here have come across the "12-16 sq in of port area per cube" guideline for slot ports and the "9-12 sq in per cube" for aeros. The problem with both of these is they only consider box volume. Both input power and tuning frequency, along with box volume, have a great effect on how much port area you need. This is why I've been recommending to people to NOT use those rules of thumb. Online you can find several websites (such as carstereo.com) that have port area calculators using the formulas developed by Dickaso…

Hey guys, so I just got me a sundown zv5 15 and built a box for it. I was tight on space so i went with an aero ported box, its roughly in the 4.5 ft3 area after displacement and what not. I'm using a 8" sonotube tuned to 32hz. I figure the 8 would work well because it's slightly less port area than what is needed for a slot port. And I've read aero port don't need to be as much as a slot port. Anywho, the sub kills the lows! It's moving a lot of air. But on the higher frequency is just lacks. For example , young jeezy- put on, that first note out of that 4 notes really sucks. lol it's real quiet compared to the other 3 notes that follow it. I tried another p…

I've had my Dcon 10 d4 for about 3 years and I love it. First was a ported box at 33hz. Very impressive, sounded like 2 12's but I wanted more sq so I built a sealed box. Still impressive volume, much better sq for my type of music (pop) but I kinda want more... If course lol. I would love to find a used sub to match this one, the older version. My amp is 1 ohm stable. I would just need to build a new box and I'd have the volume I want without sacrificing sq. I have looked but not had any luck yet. But is there another option with a ported box? Maybe tuned to a different frequency that would get more volume but better sq than before at 33hz? All t…

I have had an old SX laying around for a couple years and finally sold it (with box and amp) to my brother for $200. He was getting it installed today and the guy installing it said one of the VC was reading 0 ohm. I havent been involved with car audio for probably 10years and forgot what little I used to know. Can I fix this or is it now a paperweight? Maybe I am hanging onto nostalgia, but IIRC Resonant Engineering was respected for quality and value before the buyout by US Amps when prices shot up. Furthermore IIRC, the owner of RE went on to found FI car audio, so perhaps they would be the ones to ask? Any feedback would be much appre…

  18. Whats up guys & girls i'm new to this forum & need your help on subs. I build a sealed enlosure that was suppose to be for 15s & it's about 2.85 cu ft per chamber before displacement for my 90 b2200 cab plus mini truck, Online dealers recommend 12" subs for that size enclosure. So I installed some old school Earthquake 12" subs & don't sound right, So swapped them out for some of the newer Alpine type R subs and still don't sound good. My enclosure looks more for 15's not 12s. The mono amp I'm using is Cadence Zrs C1 which is only good for 1 ohm load.

  19. Haven't been here in a while. Had to make a new account since I forgot the password to my old account. Anyway, I bought a Honda CRV a year ago & am now getting around to the audio portion So far I have Ipad Mini Helix DSP 2x PPi P900.4's 1 PPI P1000.1 Beyma 8G40 and Eric Stevens Horns The Beyma's are great, but they start to lose steam around 90hz, so I'm looking for a sub that can extend up higher than most to help in that area. I'll be using the P1000.1 for power & have around 4 cubic feet to work with. I found a 13w7 local for $550, but was wondering if I can do better for the dollar.…

Hi guys and gals first post not new to the car audio world but been out of it for a long time . I already have a system in my 2010 Silverado crewcab . I'm running the JL audio stealth box with 2 JL 10w3 subs that came with it . About 800 watts rms . I had the same amp with the same subs in my other car but with a custom ported box . Wow I loved that system . But in my truck I was limited on space and the JL audio prebuilt sub box was just very convenient and ready for installation so I went that direction. Yes it very nice and decent but after 6 years I'm ready for more . I want to keep the box under the rear bench seat but I know that running my 2 JL 10"s mig…

Hello all. New sub is being built as we speak (went full carbon fiber cone and dustcap also). Dc suggests 5.5 cubes but im wondering if anyone else has had some experience with these things to give me the right direction to head. The current box is about 7.5 cubes net so a new box is in order. Will also be going up in power soon. Sub will be on a synergy 35.1 at .5 until i can get a bigger amp. It will be daily but also the occasional competition.

  23. Hello all, I installed my Pioneer MVH-X690BS head unit last night and it powers up fine, however my Image Dynamics CTX65CS in the front doors are not working. I checked the amps and they seem to be working properly. I have an appointment with a local audio shop tomorrow to help me with the big three install (I can't reach the alternator on my Xterra, what a pain in the ass) and I will ask them to trouble-shoot my components while I am at it. However, I have a feeling I may need to replace the components. I have a Sundown 100.2 amp that does 100x2 @ 4ohms and 200x2 @ 2ohms. I am interested in the RE XXX 6.5C as that is one of the few 2 ohms components I've f…

  24. I am looking at a pair of used Crossfire Db3 12"s, for my nephews ride. Not a brand I am familiar with, so was hoping someone had experience with them. The gentleman selling them only wants $50 for the pair, so right in the price range I want to spend on the kid. I know they are subs and will make sound, just making sure they are not majorly flawed by design or anything. Thanks in advance.

  25. Hello everyone, I am hoping to get some resolve here. I have been searching all forums and websites for wiring diagrams and color codes and information on switching from a stock 8" factory sub/amp to an aftermarket amp/sub. My hope is to upgrade from the small factory amp and 8" sub to possibly one 12 or two 10s. My first journey started with trying to find out what each color wire going into the factory subbox meant and then I started getting all the advice of what I had to use. I have had a lot of people tell me that I can only use a certain size amp with certain size ohms and other information. I am not a stereo technician, but I am mechanically inclined. Is…
