Do you have a favorite food recipe? Post it up! Here is one of my favorite breakfast recipes : Oatmeal, cottage cheese, egg, banana pancakes 1/2 cup oatmeal (Quaker oats 100% natural whole grain) 1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese (Friendship 1%) 3 whole eggs 1 banana Grind all the ingredients in a food processor minus the banana. Mash the banana into the mixture. Pan fry the mixture with coconut oil (the MCT oil is an added bonus) into 4-6" round cakes. Makes 4-5 cakes depending on size. I top the cakes either with honey or peanut butter but taste great with nothing else added. A buddy of mine likes to add coco to the mixture. Good sources of protein, ca…

A little bit of background first. For the last couple years, I've had a bit of a gut. Not much because I was always working outdoors, but a bit. Last year I took a job working in an office with it's own cafeteria, that I would eat at a lot. Combine that with going through a McDonald's phase, a lot of pepsi and a lot of alcohol, I've gained a fair bit of weight. I'm 5'11", and I weigh somewhere around 220. I've never really been to the gym before, never really worked out. I used to ride my bike a lot and that kept me in shape, but then I got my license and a truck. My sister is getting married in the middle of January, and I'd like to be as healthy/light as possible before…

So I'm looking to change my lifestyle around on a physical and mental level, and I sold my usual mode of stress relief. I've spoken to many people who really enjoy yoga, but I don't know if it's right for me, so I'm just looking to get some opinions before investing any time in it.

Howdy all, I wanted to take some time to share my fitness goals. I have been through many times in the past where I wanted to do this or that. Sometimes I wanted to be really strong and body build, other times I wanted to run a lot and be lean. This time I have a compromise of the two extremes. My goal, being general, is to be able to compete (with my friends) on a high level athletically. This will include sports such as softball, ultimate, running, cycling, swimming with softball really being my biggest focus. I love baseball but can't compete at the level that is available to me and softball I can play with more people and have a lot of fun. Also, as with almost anyone…

Ok guys with my messed up knee I am restricted to gym pt. I need some upperbody workouts that don't depend alot on the legs for stabilization and can be done with a leg immobilizer that goes from mid calf to lower theigh. The immobilizer also has steel rods up the back side of my leg that prevents me from bending it. Any help would be appriciated. J

been shopping for an upright bike to have at home and just do home workouts from now on. i got some resistance bands and i actually like them a lot, they do a great job. I plan on buying more stuff but its a work in progress on my budget. Anyway, i need to buy a bike for now, I need some cardio, and running just isn't for me. I've got about $300 to spend, but it would be great if i could keep it lower than that. Im looking at a few bikes, between the $200 and $300 range and I was wondering if there were any recommendations. I want a quality product, but i have read some reviews on each bike and no matter what the price, they all seem to be about equal. Here they are:…

Hey all, I started off back in February about 173lbs, a little beer gut and not a bit of muscle on my body... a friend from work is training me and got me involved in weight training. It's been three months, training 4x a week and completely changing my eating habits I've lost about 15lbs of pure fat, but my main goal is to gain a lot of lean muscle mass. I haven't been doing much cardio or abs so I need to pick up on those two things... tell me what you think of my progress so far 2/23/09, First week in the gym 173lbs 5/9/09, 160lbs

No, it's not a bench press or a barbell curl. It doesn't involve cables or chrome machines. You won't need a swiss ball or any other fancy gym gadgets. All you need is a good old-fashioned barbell and a flat surface. Load the bar with as much weight as you can handle and pick it up off the ground while keeping your back straight. Sounds simple enough, right? I'm talking, of course, about the undisputed king of all upper body exercises: the deadlift. If you're looking to pile as much lean muscle mass onto your frame as humanly possibly in the shortest period of time, the deadlift is your best friend in the entire world. That's the good news. The bad news is that deadlift…

The Warm Up Prior to exercise, it is necessary to perform a warm up. The goal of this warm up should be to prime the body for exercise. An adequate warm up may improve elasticity due to blood saturation and minimize the risk of injury to the ligaments, tendons, muscles and other connective tissues. For example, a general warm up could consist of 5-10 minutes of low intensity cardiovascular exercise followed by a few dynamic warm up exercises. A more specific warm up will have more in mind. The purposes of a warm up are as follows: 1. Increase proprioception (spatial awareness) 2. Increase muscle activation (neural drive) 3. Improve coordination and joint stabilization…

November of 2012 I was fed up with my inactive lifestyle. I was drinking a case of beer a week and over eating at every meal. I decided I was going to start to run again as well as do mild weight training and put more thought into my diet. I also registered for a Warrior Dash that was in August 2013. This would help motivate me to make a change. My goal was to be able to run this in a decent time. A few weeks into my running and my knees were in constant pain. A soreness that bothered me all day every day. February 2013 I was diagnosed with degenerative joint disease in my knees. I supplemented my diet with Fish Oils and Glucosamine Chondroitin. After a couple months thes…

I was wondering if there is anything I should eat/drink shortly after my workouts (particularly days I'm in the gym lifting). Most of the time my workouts end at 9:00 PM so something light and around 100 calories would be preferred.

So I signed back up @ a gym on Monday - I've been so busy for about a year or so working out has been spotty at best. Decided to suck it up and start going again... the gym is open until 10 at night so I can manage to make it in, at least for an hour if I can pry myself away from my e-mails at night. Went pretty easy compared to what I used to do on Monday for chest and triceps and dead lifts (cardio too)... got up very sore Monday. Well, enter today... very painful to move *laughs* Thats what I get for slacking for so long. Triceps are the worst... can barely straighten my arms out, chest is pretty sore... and my lower back is surprisingly sore considering I only did 1/2…

My pant size went NEAR 50... i nearly crapped myself.. After taking a good look at my lifestyle, it's time to make a change. I started to look into a gym membership, 9Few deals thru work) Soda consumption is WAY WAY to high! During one sitting I could pound 2 or 3 mtn dews like it was my job!.. no good. My question is, a lot of people at my work use the gallon milk jugs and go to town with the water. How much should i realistically attempt to consume in a day? One of my main problems is, i work 4 days a week, so i have a whole lot of nothing to do for 3 days, i'm trying to save up for a new jetski for next season so i try not to spend money on stupid things... emphasi…

How long would you consider lifting a certain weight before you consider yourself being at a plateau? my bench went up about 80lbs in 3 months now for the past 2 months my gains have been maybe and extra rep or so. My buddy was like just do high reps light weight. i usually do both though. work up 3 sets heavy work down 3 sets high reps i think im reaching that point where im losing fat/losing muscle from not eating enough

OK, so here is where I am at. I have been working out pretty steadily for 20 years, I never go more than a week or so off. I lift 3-5 days a week and cardio 3-4 times a week. I either run 4-5 miles or do something like an eliptical for an hour. I'm 6'3 and about 215 pounds, give or take, so not too much fat. My body is still in OK shape for pushing 40. I have normal aches and pains but nothing I can't get through. I don't take any medication at all, and the only supplement I use on and off is Creatine. I drink 1/2 - 1 gallon of water almost every day. I want to start pushing more endurance. I am deploying next week and one of my goals is to be able to run (jog)…

Something that has always been a peeve with me is how others act and treat me while I am in the gym. I take it very seriously, do my best not to talk to or bother anyone. I guess I only mention this because, New Year gym people suck. They over flow the parking lot (can't seem to drive either) think they can just join the gym and start working out on the machines and weights without doing any research or training act as if the gym floor is social hour forget that others are waiting for machines make over the top gratutious noises don't return weights to their proper locations don't wipe down machines or benches after they are done block machines while posing for the mi…

I have just started to incorporate protein into my workout. I work at a grocery store where we sell whey protein, and different types of powders for shakes along with different types of Bars, and stuff. They only protein stuff I have tried was a Shredder Shake from Smoothie King. It was pretty good after I got over the protein after taste. I had the chocolate one if it makes a difference. I also noticed they sell a Jerky stick that is high in protein. Are the drink/shake mixes any good, and what ones do you recommend? Also what are some other good supplements that contain protein?

Hi, I have decided to start working out since I pretty much have a set schedule for work and school and can be consistent on a workout schedule, and I feel more motivated to do so. My main goal is really to put on weight, I'm not worried about being super ripped but just want to get bigger. I am ~145 right now and would like to get up to 165-170 eventually. Can anyone help me with tips or advice? I used to work out in high school but that was a while ago, and I only worked out for speed and strength (football), but don't remember much, but I still know my form will be fine.
