  1. I got the pleasure of hearing Cableguy's truck at USACi World Finals this year. It was great to say the very least. When I first got in his truck, I was expecting to see a processor or a high-end expensive head unit. I saw neither, instead I saw a run of the mill Pioneer H/U and a old looking EQ with a few simple adjustments under it. Soon as I started looking around I started noticing the great craftsmanship in the truck, from the custom Kick panels to house the Blue Car Audio 6.5"s, then the Custom A-Pillar's to house the Blue's Car Audio tweeters. So, I was a little skeptical at first as the only SQ vehicle I had heard prior was a G8 with Focal Utopia's and the Alpine 701 Processor. Then he started playing music and I was instantly greeted with a well centered sound great warm sound. I was simply in disbelief at how well staged it was for such a simple setup. After a few songs of showing off the staging and front-stage. He play a song to show off the low end, which was amazing clear and loud for a set of 10"s tuned so low. They caught every note with no issues. I was simply astounded. Great truck Cableguy, really it's amazing.
  2. Sefugi, I don't know where to even start. I have looked at this build more than once when you were just getting started, my fault for not subscribing to it then. Wow, my head hurts from a big face palm. There's just not enough time to see everything all the time. I see you have another log going on now and I assure you I'll be subscribed after this post. I just read through all 43 pages, my time was not wasted. Determination, dedication, persistence and love for your family and your hobbies/passions are the best words I can come up with at the moment after reading this thread. I've taken on some big projects in my time, whether at work or at home, but none as big as this and done in a two car garage by a father and his son. I must admit that this car is not my style, but that doesn't matter, you and your son built the car you wanted or he wanted and that is what matters most. Congrats on a job extremely well done!! Detail is the thing that sets most o.k. things from over the top things and your project is over the top, Sirs I commend you both. Whether you realize it or not this is the type of build that inspires us all to achieve greater things. You and your son have gone above and outside the norm. in this build, I can only imagine the amount if time you both have in wiring alone, outside of the paint work. It's very easy to kill days on wiring that nobody will ever see, except in a log like this. I'm quite certain I can speak for all of us at SSA, Projects like this will inspire us all to achieve, desire and want to do better in all future endeavors. Thank you and keep fueling the passion!!
  3. Regina...Gina......Momma Chop.....Chop's wifey......Gina38.....THE BOSS of IAK! 2002 Dodge Durango 4X4 4.7V8 all options minus sunroof. We had to add some personality to asap....lol We had Mike,(DD9915D!!!), at Excessive DB's go through and upgrade the alarm and factory sounds. He installed an Excaliber alarm with all the bells and whistles, (punn intended), including the remote start, just in time for the cool weather.... it is definetly a loud alarm for sure.... We had the factory head unit replaced with a 7" touchscreen flip up to compliment the 5 flip down in the rear(factory) Mike carries American Bass so he was able to give us a sweet deal on the equipment.... All the power and speaker wires are American Bass, 0 gauge ran to the rear and split up with a beefy distrubution block for both amps to share. The doors were stuffed with the American Bass SQ carbon series 6.5"s ..... We also deadened them with Fat Mat, reducing the road noise and increasing the sound qaulity.... We was able to get her a Sundown Audio SAX 100.4 to run the mids and highs.......thank you Steve Mead. Both amps will be mounted in the cargo area and have fans, (to be installed), drawing cool air in across them through the factory side vents.... Regina has a Sundown Audio SAZ 1200D on the way from DB-r.com right now....should be here Friday. This is just slightly bigger than what is needed for her new subs, but we will be sure to keep it set right... The subs being used are American Bass 8"s .... they are setting in a ABC style enclosure.... There is a little story behind the subs and enclosure.....keeping everything out in the open... Mike had a few mistakes along the way on the install...nothing too huge, just somewhat inconvinent mostly..... he felt terrible and would not hear of anything less than to 'make-up' for his mistake by buildind the enclosure for free, and supplying the subs as well....FREE!! ..... perhaps a sign of truly going above and beyond to keep a customer happy...Thank you Mike, from us both. (there is a small chance that he is scared of Regina!, I know the rest of us are!!!) we will post up more pics of the install after the sub amp gets installed...also upgrading the factory tweeters and doing a big three in the near future.... lol, now you see why my build does not progress quickly....ha ha We plan on visiting the Alton family on the 6th. we will see how she does on the mic then.... stayed tuned..... love you Regina!!!!! Chop IAK
  4. I know it would put you out of your budget by a few bucks with shipping but a DCON 10 @ $115 would be a great choice. 1-1.25 enclosure ported. It is said these are allways being overlooked because of the lower power handling, but give great performance for the $. Good Luck!!
  5. ahh ok, thats good to know, i am currently using a distribution block that goes from my knu 1/0 to 4 gauge, but thats cause my amp right now is only an AQ1200D, i plan on just running the 1/0 straight to the amp when i get a bigger amp and then run a 4 gauge run to my mids/highs amp. right now my main power fuse is 300 amps, so if i decide to go with the AQ2200D i should get a 200A fuse for it? Yes, you would want to use the fuse size recommended by AQ or Sundown in the main power line fuse holder. One fuse located as close to the battery as possible is all that is needed in his situation.
  6. It really depends on what level of sound quality you are trying to achieve. If you're just trying to go for clean 'n clear sound without concern for imaging/staging/etc, a simple quality comp setup in the doors ran passive would more than suffice. Really no need for all of the custom speaker locations and multiple amplifiers in that type of setup. It would certainly be a nice upgrade over stock in performance without breaking the bank or taking half a decade to install, setup and tune. If you are looking for something that not only sounds "clean" but also stages and images well......then you're going to need the more advanced processing if you plan to use midrange and midbass speakers that A-pillar/door mounted as you'll need, at minimum, time alignment. Or you can get fancy with kickpanels to equalize pathlengths, etc. And really, if you want to go the full-out SQ with active crossovers, major EQ work and time alignment and you aren't very familiar with the inner-workings of a "true" SQ setup.....you'd better have someone there who can help you in person get everything setup and tuned properly, or you'll end up with pretty bad results. Despite the e-popularity, these types of systems are pretty difficult to setup with good results, and a 3-way frontstage of that caliber would be a nightmare for a SQ novice to tackle on their own. So really, first you need to decide how hardcore you want to get with it
  7. We fuse everything, for looks, safety, ease of maintenance, installation points. was just a suggestion ... thanks. Best of luck with your build ...
  8. No, they do not come with a fuse/fuse holder. The main fuse at the battery will be sufficient to protect the amplifier. Just select the fuse size based on the amplifier's requirements rather than the wire gauge. No need to add another fuse holder before the amp.....it won't do anything the main fuse won't or can't do. EDIT: That's assuming you aren't using a distribution block, and that the power wire will run straight from the battery to the amplifier. If you're using a distro block, you can fuse the amplifier there.
  9. I'm speechless ... I had a blast hangin out with you all !!! ... ...
  10. Pictures would help. I'm definitely a fan of fiberglass. This thread shows two different ways to seal doors and goes through a full door treatment.

Well we haven't had a real meetup for a while and spring is now here with a new season to be underway... Maybe we should meet up here soon? Get our goals and established with everyone and here everyones new setups. I know they have pretty much all changed since the last time we met up. Just throwin it out there. O and if any doesn't have my number and wants it either shoot me a pm or send chop a text. My number has probably changed. Lol.
  12. The xmax on the BL is 18mm, not sure if that's one way, so either 0.7" or 1.4" of excursion, So your inch of travel falls in there just fine. Watching a youtube video doesn't dictate anything. Don't want over-excursion now do you... What are your amp settings? What type of enclosure? volume, tuning?
