  1. Here's Auggie supervising Test fitting the sub Little out of order, but you get the idea That's as far as we got. Now i'm waiting for the ports while he is on his way to see his parents for Christmas. When he gets back we can start putting it all together. I need to order speaker wires and some parts for terminals. Should all come together at the end of the month. Hope i have enough material left over from the pods to cover this thing..
  2. So day 2 of box assembly.. started cutting the top baffles of the box out. Flush mount for teh sexy look. The outer diameter of the subs is stated at 12.5" on Fi's website, but it was a little off, we had to sand down 1/16" or so on each flush mount hole, kinda' annoying but whatever needs to get done. We glued 'n screwed the top pieces together and started fitting the dowel bracing. 1.5" dowels should do the trick First blood!
  3. I don't have full details of your test methods, but I would that you could hear a .5db difference in subbass with a BTL playing at the level of 2-3kw. (or in most circumstances for that matter). In the more sensitive regions of the hearing (midrange, for example) at certain listening levels where your ears aren't being stressed I would agree it's possible for someone to notice a .5db difference, although they probably wouldn't describe it as a difference in volume but rather some other subjective term such as a change in "warmth" or "detail". But in the subbass, especially at high listening levels.....no, probably not. Chances are I could keep playing the same test tone over and over at the same SPL and you'd think you were hearing differences.....especially if you were expecting there to be differences. Unless there were extremely stringent testing conditions maintained, over a multitude of test sessions to verify results, and correct interpretation of the results (you could simply guess and average a right answer 50% of the time) then you probably didn't test anything at all. Sorry I didn't lay my test out for everybody else. This was personal. I'm sorry I can tell differences. That 3dbs to hear a noticeable is bullshit to me. My test was at 45hz and around 140-145dbs. Done right at 15 tests. And I guessed right every time. Now it could be different at 150dbs and so on. But I just stated I can hear the difference of a 1000watts I'm sure. But it could be different details I am hearing that makes it seems its louder or quieter. But regardless I could tell. Also this was a setup I've listened to quiet a lot, which could of effected the outcome. Now somebodies setup I hear today then again next week, I can't tell a difference. No one said anything about 3dbs, did they? The ability to discern an audible difference in .5db in the subbass where your ears are least sensitive at a level of 140db+ where your ears are under extreme stress themselves would put you well into the realm of superhuman hearing. You should try out for that Stan Lee show on the Discovery Channel. Or the alternative......is that you didn't test what you think you tested, results aren't valid, and you can't discern a .5db difference under the conditions you described. Which one sounds more reasonable?
  4. The box is 99% done. Doubled up. Damn thing weights so much more now. All edges run with the round over bit with the router. Getting ready to carpet. Brand new blade(in the small paper thingy). Doing the sides. My room will smell of glue for a week or so. Done with that. The terminals. And voila. =) Side view. Subwoofer in. Needs some work around the port and baffle paint. Some minor sanding to clean the glue, paint and DONE. Also need to put some silicone around the terminals. That's it guys. Any comments welcome.
  5. 1 point
maybe thats the way to go...would you recommend the ssa icons? I've used the ssa icons and there awesome. linear response, maintained sq at full excursion, and still got loud
  6. Don from SDS.... Message him goals ... He will basically tell you all you need...

  8. To be fair to this guy, they sell DVD-A discs with music mixed in 5.1 channels. My dad had an Acura TL that had 5.1 surround sound and could play DVD-Audio, but not video. The DVD-A discs are rare, but there are ways to extract the audio information from any dvd, like a concert dvd for instance, and burn that as a dvd-a disc. Then it's music playing in 5.1, which can sound awesome. The only problem is you need to find a player designed specifically for dvd-a. Not many are. But even then, he could throw a concert dvd in and just listen, you don't really need to watch those. His question isn't a completely stupid one, he just didn't have the best application in mind for it.
  9. Did some work today. The box now has all sides double except the smaller side panels. Bottom already glued. Working on the top piece. Screws and clamps as always. That's nasty. Side view. Small piece of wood added to the flushed panel to resemble the double baffle when the carpet is on. I'll explain that better when it's finished. Doing the box terminals using a threaded rod. I made two holes(which will be sealed with silicone), cut the rod, then some nuts and a washer at each end so it doesn't go into the wood that much when screwed. Tomorrow carpet? ... :)
  10. My preference and yes you can really make these rip In M form (I'd do a normal 535 and add forced induction for budget purposes) 2nd choice and no they weren't available that way If you are a bowtie fan (the other two options are way better) you can go this route Turn it into a Buick Impala SS+ if you will. Definitely not Blazers, will give you the space and can easily meet your other goals. The easiest chassis to get where you need it to will be the E34 BMW by a long shot. Probably the cheapest parts as well.
  11. The box was painted a couple of days ago and it's dry now. I've decided to double up all sides. Then make the terminals, carpet and call it done. Satin white paint. A closer view of the port. That's the cables reflection, don't worry. And the artifact you see will be covered in carpet as designed. Big piece of carpet. A threaded rod for the terminals, nuts, washers and copper terminals for the cables.
  12. Well my patience has got the best of me. i went ahead and installed my subs in an old box i had. box is tuned high and has low port area, but here is a crappy phone video. ill use is as a reference to compare with my new box with lots of port and tuned low. Fair amount of windshield flex but cell camera dosent pick it up well. Feel free to bash if you like. this is just my work truck. I have a rather large build coming up this next year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShwM-8QmSGc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bff01OoDtzU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFGdMxx0igs
  13. Retarded marketing bullshit can sell. Idiots buy when they are misled. Pretty stupid to have 5.1 for content encoded in 2. Of course watching movies in a car is pretty dumb too. Natural selection obviously hasn't worked...yet
  14. Damn nice job Aaron. I am VERY surprised at how little deadener you used. To think of how much I have used on my Yukon, what a HUGE wast of money. Thank you for taking time to put this up. Hopefully this will help others do this the correct way and not the old brainwashed multiple layers ways of the past.
  15. ....Next thing is im watching youtube videos on my phone while im driving
