cone area vs power
1 pointim talking 160 not 150. and why is that? What your not understanding is if a person never competed before says there goal is to hit a 160db just shows you they dont understand what goes behind getting a 150 let alone a 160. I hope your not talking about on music neither. Im not saying its impossible but its like rocket science for a begginner and will probably take more time/money/sweat/etc. to even get to the mid 150's than you probably envision. 140-145db increase is not hard, 145db-150db gets more difficult but is attainable. Going from 150-150db+ is not simple at all, most people start loosing db's when they get in that range during testing (i.e. equipment failure, car cant handle it, pockets not deep enough, etc.) Good luck in competing but set an attainable goal dont just pick a number out your ass, thats a slap in the face to real competitors who put in a hell of an amount of work and are still trying to reach that goal.1 point

cone area vs power
1 pointPower is the least effective means of increasing output. If the options are more power with less displacement or less power with more displacement, the latter option would be the most desirable. That assumes you have sufficient room for an appropriate enclosure, etc.1 point

Mounting the XCON : 1/4-20 bolts and screw-in wood fasteners which I also glued in. I wanted to try this method......it works just use extreme caution. I decided to use close cell foam for a gasket instead of the supplied rubber gasket. Making a hole punch for the foam.-1 points

My power wire under the hood and runs to the trunk are 1/0 Singer HPM. I use copper 5/16 ring terminals. All wires are protected by braided sleeving PET. I use black PET and black heat shrink for ground wires and red PET and red heat shrink for power wires. All ring terminals are soldered with silver and flux then crimped with a hydraulic crimper. I use heat shrink adhesive between the heat shrink and PET. PET-1 points

Not much of an update today. I installed a fused charge wire. I decided to run the wire on top of the engine bay because I think it will stay cleaner and will be more protected. I was planning on fabricating a bracket to hold the fuse holder. After an hour of looking at placement options for the fuse holder I realized that there was basically not a good spot for what I wanted to do. My biggest goal with finding a fuse holder placement was to minimize any bends going into and out of the holder and to have it near the battery. I decided on a location on top of the battery, this may change.-1 points

A little bit of progress today I am making a huge deal out of a couple wires.......I know. I finally have my underhood fuse locations figured out. My goal was to have no wire strains (ie. bends) going into the fuse holders and to have them securely mounted. My first attempt looked good on paper but after I built it it wasn't good enough. I had a lot of strain on the wire going into and out of the fuse holders <---- exactly what I did not want. It turned out looking fairly decent but was not up to par functionally for me. Second attempt turned out fairly decent. No wire strains go into or out of either fuse holder <------ I was also able to eliminate 30" of charge wire in the process!!! I rerouted the charge wire to behind the air intake and fabbed up two aluminum brackets. One bracket to support the charge wire and another bracket to hold the fuse holder. I had covered each aluminum bracket with some spare Thermo-Tec that I had from my ZX10R track bike build. I used Thermo-Tec on the fuse holder bracket because the bracket is above the exhaust manifold. Heat probably will not be an issue but I figured it wouldn't hurt. before For the fuse holder on the run of 1/0 to the trunk I fabbed up a bracket out of acrylic. Looks half decent and I do not have any strains on the wire running into and out of the holder The wire will run out of the holder and between the factory fuse box and air box. One more pic What do you all think?-1 points

I was able to work on the install yesterday and today My time is very limited so I am happy to of had these two days to get chit done! I finally got the 1/0 runs into the trunk. I was freak'n determined not to run them in the cabin. I ended up going from the starting battery back down the firewall into the frame just behind the front wheel and out of the frame just in front of the rear tire and into the trunk. It was a real PITA to say the least. My goal for the 1/0 runs: 1. not have any wire under the lowest nearby point of the car 2. not have the wire rubbing against any moving parts like the suspension 3. have the wire 100% secured I turned out very well but like I said it was a PITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only aspect of this that I do not like is that the two 1/0 runs are very near the front sway bar. The sway bar twists slightly during suspension travel. Both wires are about 1/8"-3/8" from the sway bar. I will be checking the install daily for a week or so and then every 3000 miles when I do routine maintenance. This picture shows the 1/0 runs to the trunk from under the hood. I do not have the +1/0 run to the trunk connected at the starting battery. I need to mock up a battery box for the trunk and I am awaiting 250A fuses. Unfortunately I did not compose this picture well enough to show the detail I wanted. This picture shows the 1/0 runs entering the frame rail from just behind the front wheel. 1/0 runs coming out of the frame rail just in front of the rear wheel. Here you can see the wires secured to the frame/body. 1/0 runs entering the trunk. I will also have a -1/0 run coming from the rear battery and bolted to the frame rail in this location. 1/0 runs in the trunk I crimped a terminal to the +1/0 to have something to pull it through the frame rail with. The terminal will be cut off when I secure it to a fuse holder.-1 points

I also started my hidden H/U install. It is going well and will be bad ass! My goal with this is to have it hidden and not to dramatically alter the interior. So far so good. I have tons of work to do on this yet. I will be happy when it is installed-1 points

Here is the back side of the fake faceplate after the first layer of bondo and hairs. I havee been waiting two weeks now for a wiring harness. I really wish there was an audio shop in my area for little parts like this.-1 points

Finally received the wiring harness for the H/U! The ground wire is not connected to the factory harness. I will be running a ground wire to the front battery ground connection on the driver's side. All audio grounds are on the driver's side of the vehicle. Not a major update but a little something. Connections made Soldered Heat shrink. I do not use dielectric grease on connections that are not able to become wet. Wrapped Hopefully I will have the HU installed tomorrow. Of course I will post pics-1 points

The Kenwood is mounted Not really a big deal but I make everything a big deal. Hyundai made this vehicle as small as they possibly could, seriously. There is absolutley no room for anything extra. Even running a 12g wire from the battery to cabin was a pita. I couldn't imagine trying to run 1/0 through this firewall I am wired to the factory speakers for now, need some tunes till I finish my install. HU ground is on driver's side battery ground Fake faceplate mounted Kenwood KDC-X994 <-- nice HU for under $300-1 points

Between working overtime and family stuff I havent had much time at all to work on my install. Biggest update is that I am ditching the 3 way setup I was doing for the front stage. I scored a set of USD A-700 waveguides modified with Selenium DH200E-E drivers :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: I am awaiting funds to purchase SDS products for the trunk then the build will really take off. I made a mock-up box that is the same size as my subwoofer enclosure. It is much easier to move the mock-up box around than the +100lbs subwoofer enclosure. Plan A. Have the subwoofer enclosure mounted rear facing. I made an external skeleton brace. I thought it was going to work...... I think the 15" would be chocked off. My trunk is too small for a box this big rear facing. Plan B. Forward facing subwoofer sealed from trunk-1 points

I have been working a lot of overtime the past couple weeks so my free time now is at zero. Hence not much of an update. Our offer was accepted on a house and we close March 18th so now I really have no free time for awhile! But here is a 'lil something: The horns I recently bought do not fit for safety reasons. I only have about two inches of pedal clearance...damn it . Back to a three way. The waveguides are for sale. I ran my RCA's, turn-on and speaker cable on the passenger side. The door jam boot is a connector on the firewall side, totally unexpected. I had to run the speaker wire a different route through the door jam. Currently I only have the midbass wire ran. I was stunned to see that the doors were completely sealed from factory.-1 points

I started working on my RCA wires. I am posting up some pics but this is definitely not a full blown how-to. If you have any questions though please ask! Weller WES51 pen solder station. 10/10 I love it. Clamp stand, ehh ok, not as adjustable as I like. I am using : - Gepco 61801EZ wire. Plain and simple and easy to use. - P3 RCA connectors. Plain simple does the job well. - cable pants - Techflex NeonBlue - .032" 60/40 rosin core solder - heat shrink Gepco 61801EZ ia a 2 conductor with a drain wire Drain at the source for unbalanced connections. Wires tinned P3 connectors do not have solder cups but I did presolder them Wires soldered to the connector Heat shrink to prevent grounding to the connector body. Connector fastened! Repeat for left channel. Cable pants and Techflex on and ready to solder the other end. Drain wire snipped off Repeat above soldering steps. Done! 4 or 5 more custom lengths to make. It is probably cheaper or the same cost to buy premade RCA wires but I just like to make chit!-1 points- System for my Hyundai - Sundown,JL Audio, Crescendo, Audiocontrol, DEI

Thank you Next up is to seal off the trunk. Then I have to start the front stage. Not really looking forward to fiberglassing, I have never done it to this extent Take your time and remember it will take several stages of sanding(wet sanding will help) to get a nice slick surface, depending on what you are going to use for a covering. If you do as well fiberglassing as you have with the wiring it will look great! Keep up the good work!-1 points- System for my Hyundai - Sundown,JL Audio, Crescendo, Audiocontrol, DEI

Thanks man! I am anxious to start the front stage. I will be moving into my new house in April.
