dcon vs icon
2 pointsI used to run a single ported 10" Dcon and it was by far one of, if not the best, sub I've ever owned. Great sound quality and amazing output from a single 300 watt sub. You really can't go wrong with any SSA sub.2 points

1 pointI couldn't agree more! For the money you just cannot beat the quality of sound and output it has.1 point

1 pointThanks bro ... But I spray my engine down and keep it very clean and brushed up all the time (every time I wash the truck) ... Those connections stay clean ... This is the same setup (for the most part) going on for 3 years ... If I ever start having problems, I will sure check this out ... Thank you sir for your input !!!1 point

Two MTX 12s vs One SA 12
1 pointSorry but this is an extremely stupid thread. There are to many factors to determine to which one would sound better. It can also depend on the listeners ear and what he likes. He may very well think that a BTL N3 in a high tuned burp box may sound better than a SSA XCON in a nice low tuned enclosure. It just depends on what he likes and what he wants.1 point

Two MTX 12s vs One SA 12
1 pointIt's all a matter of opinion, I would rather have the SA12 myself though.1 point

dcon vs icon
1 pointIn terms of clarity or accuracy, in a properly built to spec sealed or ported enclosure, there should yield zero audible difference. As for the dust cap, that is the one that is meant for the Dcon design, due to its mass (same look but different dust cap for the Zcon). The Icon has a much stiffer suspension and is getting an even stronger motor then before, so it can easily handle the extra moving mass of that cone. SSA drivers go through quite a long testing phase, and do not get updated often, as in we hope to get it right the first time. There are numerous reasons for this. Think of it in terms of the automotive world, some of the very best are fully updated rarely with long life spans that have a very lengthy testing period before hand. The Icon has had minor tweaks since 2007, but only NOW is it getting a full update. Not comparing us to them, but think of how often Focal, Image Dynamics, JL, Diamond etc. etc. as I think people get the idea.1 point

I'm a little worried
1 pointMay I ask what the purpose is? Most people want it for lighter weight and improved performance which means they won't have an audio system in their car, unlike what you see in the ricer movies and car club scene. Really though, the cost of CF is through the roof and to get good quality components will run you thousands of dollars and easily surpass the value of your car. Just think about why you want it and if you really need it before you waste your money.1 point

which subs?
1 pointi would either go with the arsenals or some sa-12's. Iv heard that the box that comes with those skars is worse then a prefab box you can get at bestbuy. theres a reason for the price tag difference, just depends on what your willing to spend and how much your willing to give up. A pair of sa-12's wouldnt let you down, i got 2 sa-10's and it surprised the shyt out of me how loud and low they get. And the roll-off on these subs is just amazing flattest response subs i have ever heard in my experience. If you were hitting mid 140's with 2 sds which is pretty damn impressive then im sure you wont be dissapointed with some arsenals or sundown sa-12's1 point
-
which subs?
1 pointThere's a video of an aa arsenal tested against a bunch other drivers and it did the best in output, but the skars wasn't out at the time. I would do some research on what people have to say about their skar enclosures before purchasing.1 point

which subs?
1 pointI'd vote for AA Arsenals, they are one hell of a driver, and made by a great company here in the US.1 point

If you are using an epoxy resin it is going to depend on the type of hardener you have. They can range from 4:1 to 1:1 ratios. Epoxy resin produces a "prettier" layup and is normally used in vacuuming applications. Polyester is a cheaper material and is most commonly used. I use polyester on nearly everything and it runs me $100 per 5 gallons. The epoxy resin I use for carbonfibre and Kevlar accent pieces and it runs me about $80 per gallon with hardener.1 point

You want to use 1.5 to 2 percent mekp to resin1 point

You want to use a 100 percent polyester material. For some reason polyester resin does not harden as well on cotten. Most "car audio" stretching material is Alpine fleece. I use fleece from hobby lobby. At 3 bucks a yard off the discount rack you can get cheap.1 point

1 pointSeriously can't believe how small those crossovers are, obviously a bunch of cheap ass components in them. If you switch and have to use Blues I'd highly suggest at least running them active. I wouldn't run rear fill in the Silvy either. Doesn't help and does a whole lot of bad.1 point

Got the tweeter pods don I am 75% happy with them. This was my first pod fabrication and I learned alot, well mainly what not to do lol. I ended up finishing them with black trim paint verses my original plan of texture paint.-1 points

Oh my!! them sub's look evil!!! hehe. You did an awesome job on the sails, why not more on axis? I bought a skil orbital at walmart for like 35 bucks. They sell 50 packs of sander discs at harbor frieght for a decent price. Thats good that dinner walks right up to you, should make for easy picking's come hunting season. hehe-1 points

You did a great job on the pods with keeping them appearence-wise balanced with each other. Having deer in your backyard is so cool, is this the backyard of your new crib? Looks Big! Adding the idler to the alt belt was a great idea, looks to give a lot more wrap on the alt pulley! New subs are looking very healthy!! Bring on the enclosure rebuild!!-1 points

That sub looks sick my man. Job well done dude I read all the way from page 1 lol. I bought 2 15inch nightshades like last week, cant wait till they come in and i start my build log!!!-1 points

Those sails came out nice, wish i had some fabrication skills in the car audio arena. I just get frustrated easily with it. Can't wait to see the subs in action, they are absolute monsters, what size box you going to put them in.-1 points

Fabrication takes time especially when you are learning as you go Enclosure size will be between 3.5-4.0 ft^3 with lots of port area tuned @30hz. I ordered the copper coils. Which did you get? Sweet, I went with copper also, I love copper coil subs!-1 points

Well the f'n cloth never hardened after many failed attempts to get it to. I ended up ripping it off the door and laying down fresh tape and this time I used fiberglass mat. I was much more careful with mixing the resin and hardener. The mat was alot easier to apply and is thicker as well. The fiberglass shell is nearly hardened after about an hour of sitting in the sun. I am hoping to have the mounting baffle resin'd in today. I was not sure how much fiberglass mat I was going to need for this project. Like I said this is my first time working with 'glass. I will need to stop at the paint shop tomorrow and pick up more packages of fiberglass mat to finish this stage of the door build. Clearly on my first attempt at laying down the fiberglass cloth I did not use enough hardener, lesson learned Here are a few pictures of the firework display in Coplay, PA that I took last night-1 points

Great to make time for the family!!!! Glad to see you have overcome the fiberglass hardening problem... Practice makes perfect. You'll be a resin/glass pro by the end of these doors!!-1 points

Shell is out and trimmed Baffle is in place. I 'glassed the dow rods in place. I choose a two way fabric. I am doubting it... Fabric is resin'd. Till next time...-1 points

I have heard a lot of people using 100% polyester Ponte with good results. Is that what you used, if not have you looked into it at all? Can pick it up at Joanne's fabrics.-1 points

I have used cottton shirts and fleece blanket. Both worked great for me. Thats fukt to hear about the learning curve with the hardener, I always just wing the mix too. Kool to see you trying the ports on the midbasses, I may try the same thing if I ever get back to finishing my doors, I fear with my alignment I my end up with two ports per door though. We will see what the modeling says... Are you wiring your own sub panel for your welder? And goddanm you filled my inbox when I was out of town, keep up the killer work!-1 points

Sorry to hear about things coming to a halt with the build man. You have alot of great things going on in your life though and that's something to be very happy about.
