  1. I made it half way up the big mountian in the distance on the left this week. I plan on hitting the peak the next trip.

I'm not sure how or why you gathered that from the site, but I fail to see any real objective information that seems to substantiate that judgment. Hell, they guess at the Xmax of the Z based on nothing more than mechanical noise.......LOL. It simply looks to me like they took more time to subjectively review the Z than they did the Xcon. I'm not saying the Xcon is the best choice or a better sub, just suggesting that your interpretation of that site and it's information is a little inaccurate, IMO.
  3. I understand that much, but how and why? What changes about the subwoofer? I just want to know more about High Qts. "How and why" isn't a simple short answer. But basically, they machine the gap a little wider to reduce the motor force some. The change in Qts changes how the subwoofer responds to a given enclosure volume and the enclosure volume needed to achieve a specific Qtc. In a similar alignment (same Qtc) the high Qts option will have slightly more output and slightly more extended low frequency response throughout most of the passband, although it will require a larger enclosure to obtain a given Qtc. If instead of keeping alignment the same we keep the enclosure volume the same, the high Qts option will have a higher Qtc and the associated differences that comes from having a higher Qtc (slightly more peak output, less damping, less mechanical power handling, slightly less low frequency extension, etc).
  4. As some of you may have noticed, the SSA store has been down since around 5:30pm EST today. We hope that it will return within the next 24 hrs as the software team is working on restoring a backup from today. Thanks for your understanding...

One other clarification on all that and edouble's review. Take his opinion as biased and based on misinformation. His posts regularly portray inaccurate information. In this case he may have owned even all the drivers, but without discussion of box and application even that leads to inaccurate information. Now that being said I didn't post this to sway you in any one way or the other based on the response. However, your first post and the one where you reference wanting to blast 5500w into your subs are VASTLY different. That being said throwing that much sauce on any driver I'd personally prefer to rely on customer support and confidence in the buildhouse in which case it's a no brainer IMO. Comparing the mass manufacturing of Sundown to the SSA hand built line isn't fair for Sundown in that aspect.

That’s fair, it is probably an amateurs interpretation of what I was reading. These are some of the things that made me think the z was more capable. Xcon made mechanical noise. Z had demodulation rings. Z has a pole vent. Z has 8 layer coil. Z has 9 inch spider vs 8. All of those things may mean nothing or maybe something, I don’t really know. Just sounded like a better thought out driver that based on their description was very well built. Just a different design. The Xcon now has a solid pole which leads to improved cooling and greater motor force over it's initial design. It has some very trick spiral CNC machined cooling channels. It also has a shorting ring in the motor, a massive coil, Nomex spiders and sandwiched leads etc. etc.

lol No offense man, but please learn how to write a proper sentence! Cheese and rice I had to read that about 4 times and use my imagination to get what you were saying. Like two big ass run on sentences with no punctuation any where! lmao.
  9. Glad you stoped by. I hope you get things sorted out.
  10. Well, you have a lot of goals, and seem like you know what you want. I hope you are willing to invest in any foreseen equipment as well. Such as security, brakes, suspension, mpg, etc. Best way to chose what enclosure and power is to find out how much space you have. So lets start off with you providing max demensions.

i think ud be fine running a 15" Zcon in 3 cubes...
  12. Jared..... I hope things get right for you.
  13. Im coming for you 16k!!! lemme get some more power and im gonna hurt your walls feelings
  14. Nice score! If you are wondering I am in Detroit atm.
  15. There comes a point where you're not going to get any louder without committing much more time (install, tweak and tune) and resources (space, money and utility) to the system. Power is a quickly diminishing return and frictional losses in the form of power compression make it even more so. You also have to invest in the electrical support (batteries, wire, alternator, etc...) to support that extra power. Cone area is slightly more reliable, but there are still losses in the form of phasing cancellation that keep you from realizing the full potential. That said, you can only fit so many drivers and so much cone into a given space, and once you begin sacrificing box volume to cram more drivers into the space, you start hurting system efficiency.
  16. The wire loom going from amp to batt looks gay If you need to cover it use Techflex.

Pure marketing gimmick. It is completely useless.
  18. Future upgrades or usually a higher resale value is my rationalization for going with the step higher. Don't forget the icon is another awesome choice. Either way you will not be disappointed!

Bro, I am not saying the same thing as you at all... I sited a reference. I am saying that JL is incorrect. There is no correction for this. Le is not interchangable with Re, completely different. I am not talking about what makes up RMS. I am pointing out the fact that you cannot use a voltage reference for deriving power when impedance is unknown... I'm saying the OP cannot set gain by voltage. That is the answer to his question. If somone tells him you can, they are wrong and will lead him to equipment damage. You either get this or you don't... Done beating the horse on this one...

Look, I am not making this stuff up. Model any alignment you have built and look at the impedance. You will never (99.9% of the time) see less than at least 50% variation over the bandwith you operate in, much moreso in a vented alignment. It is just the way things are. How would I advise him to set the gain? No matter what he does he has enough power on tap to thermally cook those drivers. So no matter how he sets it he will have the ability to change something in the signal chain somewhere and get more power out of his amplifier than he expects. In other words, there is no bullet proof way to set the gain threshold on an amplifier that doesn't have some type of limiting circuit. You can arrive a setting that may be accurate, but only if you change nothing from then on, and that is impossible... So no, I nor anyone else, can tell him how to set his gain to get an exact maximum level from the amplifier and have it always remain excatly that way. I just doesn't happen. That is why these tutorials are bogus...
  21. If you haven't done any sound deadening you might want to go that route. If you cut down on road noise and vibrations, your system will be perceived lo be louder. Don of SDS is a regular on this forum and will give you great advice and won't sell you anything you don't need.
  22. because his sub is 500ft away from his amp...
