Alternator or Second 18" Zcon
1 pointHi- I have been using a ZCON 18" for about a year now and I love it. It's powered on an IA 40.1. I have an XS D3400 & XS XP3000 for a battery set up, and the stock 120 amp alternator. I've gotten it down so that the sub won't heat up during normal use and it's fairly loud. It get's a bit louder when I can crank it up but it also heats right up since my electrical begins to sag. I am working at a decently paying job for the summer and have decided I can either buy an additional ZCON 18" and making a new box or get a 300 amp singer alternator. I can only do one upgrade at this time, though both is obviously best. What would you guys think would be more beneficial (loudness-wise)? If I were to add the second 18" I would have to balance the power so it is the same as it is currently, there would just be double the cone area. I'm leaning towards the alt because it's less overall work, but I'm willing to put extra work in for more spl.1 point

Line Driver
1 pointThere are only 3 situations in which a line driver is needed. 1) When you are using a very low preamp voltage source (such as an MP3 player) and it's output is below the level necessary to drive the amplifier to the necessary power levels. Almost any headunit on the market will have sufficient output voltage to drive almost any amp on the market to full power output. 2) When you have unavoidable noise induced into the system during signal transmission and you need to boost the signal to increase your signal to noise ratio (this will be very rare) 3) When you have a low voltage headunit and the amps makes an unacceptable amount of thermal noise with the high gain setting (though this is more a fault of the amplifier than the signal voltage level) That said, line driver is sometimes a generic term and a product that features a line driver will something also offer other useful features such as equalization. But that's a different situation entirely. My comments above were specifically in regards to the line driver feature.1 point

1 pointi have done many many builds in town cars, they are the hardest car IMO to make loud, and this is a killer score, may not be much to yall but you must remember this is a leather filled car with a 1 foot trunk to cabin barrier.. these cars are made NOT to be loud. im happy with it.. its my all time high in a town car. obtw i peak at 42 htz1 point

1 pointwell this box was made for the black lincoln,.... and much to my dismay the new lincolns truck is SMALLER!! so this is the only way it would fit..... i was upset with it.. as it seemed to only play very low... but with these new subs, and some time tuning and playing with it.. it sounds nice, very deep, and balls out loud to me..... but every day i think about building a new box port back sub back to see if its any better... but im afraid if i spend alll that time and money and it dont sound MUCH MUCH better then ill be mad at my self.1 point

1 pointmy favriote quote of the night " when he popped the truck i seen the box and i got goose bumps.. no one builts boxs like that anymore" as his arm was pit deep inside my port. they are nice, the spider set up seemed loose to me out of the box, but they are taking the 4500D like a damn champion. i got it tuned out pretty well so far, im able to hit the lows and the upper lows, i do want to build a box, dani has been annoyed.. it seems to be too loud.. on both accounts..1 point

1 pointNice, look forward to seeing you there. Looking good Jon. Use a old tee shirt instead of the fleece. The fleece tends to absorb the resin unevenly and will tend to sag. Looks like I'm the only one behind the times and without custom fiberglass pods. Guess it's time to get back in the garage. oh hugo you have it all!!!!! thanks.. i was thinking a tee shirt aswell but i thought it maybe too thin.1 point

1 pointnot so much the motor, but the basket, and the terminals shhs i thought the CDT m6's were decent, but damn i was wrong.. i have used alot of midbass speakers, all 6.5's but i never ever heard a drum snap the way they do now with this 8, i mean you hear and feel the snar drum .. its nice... rap and shit.. well i have never heard rap sound good, but im still playing with the adjustments... but i think its hard to make rap sound natural1 point

1 pointi didnt take pics of what i cut.. but on the back of the door pannels it has a 5x7 shape on the door pannel its self.. so that it meshes with the factory location so the 5x7 is kinda sealed to the pannle... i shaved that flat, used two 8 inch MDF rings.. mounted siliconed, and then dropped my speaker in and put the door skin on.. the driver side took me alot more time(it was the first) i had to mount it a few times..put the door back togather.. then try again,,, 3 times... the passenger side i got it with out shaving.. but then when i got my amp installed it made noise.. so i took it off shaved it and it worked fine.1 point
