  1. Without going into details of why, I'll explain why there are truths in both. It takes a certain amount of moving mass weight to get a low. Look and compare any speakers specs from any big brand on the market. There cheaper speakers will not play as low as their higher end drivers. This is due to the weight of the moving mass. Other factors dictate this however those factors are dictated by the moving mass which is directly related to frequency response. For example you can take a JL W1 12 and add mass to the cone and it will have the ability to play lower. This however creates bad side effects due to the motor not being to accurately control this extra mass. Which leads to why some larger drivers may sound sloppier. Most all smaller companies in the same series will use the same size motor a 10 as they do for a 15 or 18. Just like a heavier vehicle needs more horsepower to compensate compared to a lighter vehicle a sub is the same weight. A 15 inch sub will have a heavier mass than a 10 due to the extra material making the cone and the air load that it is pushing against. To fully control this extra mass the 15 will need a stronger motor than the 10. This will vary depending on the expected reponse of the subs but for the car audio application with the typical 32 hertz tuning this is true. This is the reason why a JL W7 13 motor is bigger than a JL W7 8. To combat this I design my motors to handle the weight of an 18 or the largest cone I plan on using. I then add mass to the smaller drivers to compensate for the extra motor force to weight ratio. The more than needed motor force will lower total Q and can give an funky response and give a high gain in response at resonant frequency. This can be observed in larger motored spl type drivers.
  2. bad ass, man now dont get distracted, life first audio second !!
  3. We used an inverter from harbor frieght, 1200 watt max for I think $60.00 a couple years. Off of that I powered a yahama 797, fog machine, rolling eyes, and lots of leds. So maybe for your needs something smaller should work if you are running a smaller system. Some of the smaller inverters come with wires that you can connect to the battery terminals very easily. If you were closer I would fix you up.
  4. The truck is EXTREMELY ugly, not my taste at all. The work your doing though looks pretty good man.
  5. Today's progress ripped out the whole trunk and removed old Dynamat Deadener for Murder Mat which will be hear tomorrow. Installation will be next Monday while I'm on vacation. New box fits & new tweeters in finally.
  6. I just want to say, quentin, I love reading your posts. Always well thought out/presented with tecnical data/testing to back up your point.
  7. The episode where Bobby takes a self defense course. Classic.
  8. Yeah.... I've picked up a lot from reading those threads, but that's one song at a time. I was hoping to find some mixtapes that hit hard throughout. Seems a lot of them I'm only keeping 2 or 3 songs. And if it slams in mine, it will in anyone's. I'm not pushing big numbers..... He means every setup is different. Some are built/tuned for numbers and will seem to "slam" on higher frequency bass, where as others are built/tuned for the lows, like mine, and will have more authority on lower frequency bass. There is also the subject of peak frequency and cabin gain. We could have the same exact equipment and same box specs in two different vehicles and it will sound different in each. So he is correct, what "slams" in your car might sound weak in mine.
  9. ah i see.... or you may just get a another fucking hummer.. you indecisive prick lol
  10. http://youtu.be/BhjGD-zgoPU I'll definitely make a roll bar cage for my car. Tho with a crash like that I don't know, if anyone will be safe.
  11. Didn't Kevin say that Skar's are so magical NO ONE would EVER steal them?
  12. The heatshield will only help to block direct heat. Underhood there is so much IN-direct heat, that the heatshield is pointless. Shit gets hot, efficiency drops, and failure starts to creep in. We are machines too and get fatigued and less productive as heat and duration increase.

First make it quite, then make it loud! That is the plan, just don't let my wife know...

The Evil is a monster of a sub. Try that one out, if it still isn't enough, come on back and start a "Team SSA Sub" petition. We'll have a look at it hehe

32" rim vs tire is completely different. Good luck hitting a pothole with those rubber band tires.

Looks good aside from those hideous wheels.

I liked it until you posted pics of the rims... I'm curious to see the gain between setups. I think more power would be better on either setup.

hmmm, perhaps ill ditch the hair chair part and just go for quality with volume.
  19. I like how your idea of a small install starts with fiberglassing the entire rear deck panel.
  20. A 4 inch coil subwhy? just wondering in your opinion why Bigger coil means more dbzzzzzzzz yo
