  1. I can change xover points from my deck. The reason i say this is I run my midbasses at 80hz when I want to wail on them. Most of the time I have them crossed lower, BUT I also usually only have my sub barely on. (BTL 15") With the mids crossed at 80hz and a high ref level (horns anyone) I like them better crossed higher. Why you ask? First I don't care how stout you build a door, its going to resonate like crazy from the energy transfer of a 12" at 50hz at high volumes. Which kills the SQL. Secondly once I crank the sub up there is no need for the mids to play that low. I know every install and persons tastes are different but this at least gives you my subjective view. The point i am getting at is I think the sacrifice you need to make is an easy one if you listen at the ref levels I think you do. That being said IF I already had the horns mounted the choice would be a no brainer. Get a pro audio driver and enjoy the head cracking midrange, and let the sub do its job.
  2. I'm glad I dont give a shit about any of this, makes for a much better read. lol
  3. Not from that craptastic picture
  4. We are going to be having a group buy this month and into next month and we have an amp that would suite your needs. It's rated to do 3,000w @13.8v, 2,500w @12.6v Normal pricing is $469 Our Group Buy pricing for this amp will be right around $400 shipped. Ship date is in early to mid March.
  5. Just so you know you won't hear a difference between a few hundred watts especially with that high of power. I would get something around 2k-2.5k rms and it'll be plenty for daily. If you're competing it's a different story , but for daily it'll be fine. A crescendo BC2k would be great for that and can be had for under ~400. A guy on here is selling one here and would make you're sp4 slam. Just have a good box design and well built box and you will be great.
  6. I've had both, m3 sitting next to me right now, and they are both really good 8" drivers. Performance is similar, if you've heard one of them and liked it you would most likely be happy with the other as well. Something else to consider is customer service, Sundown's CS has always been regarded as very good and if bought through a store with great CS (SSA) it's even better. DC, IMO, in the past has been sketchy, but now with some legit online sellers and not "reps" with secret pricing it seems to be looking up.
  7. It doesn't, nor does the 12-16". No such thing as a generic rule. You need to model your enclosure, with your drivers & power and determine if the port velocity will bug you.
  8. 1 point
More than likely keep the 6 spoke. These people kill me running the huge surround and huge spiders on subs that the motor is not made for 40 mm excursion. Pointless. If motor isn't capable of the excursion the surround and frame were developed for then it's not necessary and will only make prices higher.
  9. Score on the bass enhancer! I installed one in my daughters ride and it works great.
  10. Naive and ignorant statement to assume that's a significant metric. Plenty of people with really stupid ideas and questionable knowledge do well in competitions, both SPL and SQ.But just think of how much louder you could be if you actually understood science and testing....... That's always debatable; there's no replacement for trial and error. Knowledge always help, but plenty of "smart" people do terrible in competition. troll status achieved bro. well done. I just talked with TommyK and he said that he doesn't even worry about the technical side of things... And I guarantee that he's louder than anyone posting their nonsense in this thread
  11. Look man, there's no way possible for any of us on here to do any sort of real testing on an amplifier. Testing an amp with a resistor bank still isn't even good for a general idea. These tests are %100 worthless. These various inaccurate tests don't help win world finals or anything lol If you guys need me, I'll be busy building loud things. It's fun, you all should try it some time.
  12. After reading this entire thread, I have an analogy for everyone. Consider this the in-between perspective: A man goes to Vegas and watches a Criss Angel show. Everything he sees that night has him believing Criss is a sorcerer/wizard/what have you, so he goes back to his Podunk town and starts describing what he saw to his friends at a bar. His friends, only having what this guy has to go off, now believe just as much about magic. But there's another patron at the bar: one of Criss' stage techs who fully understands how the illusions are performed. He tries to reason with these guys (who are probably, by now, quite intoxicated) about the logic behind how these illusions are performed. Madness/hilarity/mass argument ensues. Just as much as the stage tech is getting frustrated with the Podunk townspeople, the townspeople question the outsider about whether or not what actually happened is magic. That is this thread right now. It would behoove both of you to take a step back, forget about your titles/credentials/etc and have a meaningful discussion about the validity, lack thereof, or however you feel about the situation. I respect both sides' views of the subject and (for once) am removing my own, but for fuck's sake, let's be adults about this.
  13. One other thing to think about. No headunit is going to make the horns sound as they can. Need an aftermarket proc for that. Won't hurt your other pursuits either.
  14. This seems like a good place for this.
