Xcon 15's... Is it possible?
Damn, that means I can't be lazy and just order them on parts express lol. Maybe I could fit a few more 4" ports, like 5 or 6. I'm not sure if I could do 5" ones just because of the mounting depth problem with the Xcon. The rear deck in this car is really short and tall. I hope I can do this lol. I'm going to have to keep re-designing, and if it doesn't work out I'll just have to go with the 12's. Thanks, that would be awesome if you could find it. Hopefully I can have his success lol.

Xcon 15's... Is it possible?
I guess that would probably be important lol. I'm going to tune to 32 hz.

Xcon 15's... Is it possible?
I'd have to work it out a bit more, but do you think 4 4" aero ports (flared) would be sufficient? I'm fairly sure I can fit 4 of them. The 6 inch ones are probably out of the question because I also have to take the mounting depth of the Xcons into account. Does anyone know the mounting depth for a 15" Xcon? Thanks.

Help! The brits are trying to F_ck me!
Just put my vote in. I liked his build but if he's gonna cheat I'd rather have the really cool guy win. You are winning atm!

Xcon 15's... Is it possible?
That's kind of what I was thinking, I'll have to take some more measurements of the rear deck tomorrow. Thanks Denim! I'm really on the edge about this right now and it's killing me lol.

Xcon 15's... Is it possible?
Hi- I'm trying to design my box for the Xcon's I am going to purchase soon. I have 13.58 cubic feet gross to work with in my trunk. Problem is, I want to do forward firing sealed off from the trunk and the opening behind the seats is not big enough to accommodate the port. The opening is 35" long and 20" tall. I can't fit a large enough port to be effective. I am considering porting through the rear deck with 6" aeros or something (maybe some huge slot port through the rear deck?), would this be effective? I'm assuming I could still seal all around the ports and have it sound good. My other options are, sealed 15's, sealed 18's (that'd be cool, but idk), or ported 12's. I know ported 12's would be the easiest, but for some reason I have always wanted 15's, 18's, or 21's lol. I'll do the 12's if it's the absolute best option, I don't want to get 15's and have them sound like . What do you guys think?

Total Midbass Confusion
I think the best place to start is to deaden your doors. Seal all of the holes (except the drain hole). It adds A LOT of midbass. Then I would start working with drivers. I love my Ascendant Audio Carbon Fiber Mids, but they are all I have experience with. If you can, try aiming the speakers in different directions and see what you like. I personally like them aimed towards the opposite passenger's ear level. Also, I've heard changing the phase and timing (I don't have that capability yet) can reduce a lot of cancellation so midbass will be a lot louder and such. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'm sure the rubicon is sexy then. I love the way this amp looks inside and out, it just makes me want to install it now.

Ulrisa's Volvo S40 Build
Ah, well when I hooked it up I didn't realize that their was a kit for for the stock plug in, I just manually spliced the wires. I guess it's a good thing haha. It's going to suck if I ever need to put the stock radio back in though. I might be able to get a wiring diagram if you'd want to splice yours, might be less of a hassle. Thanks for the heads up on the sunroof track breaking, that does make a lot of sense, mine is starting to squeak already. I'll see if I can figure something out for bracing with my Dad and let you know if it works out. I'll ask my brother about the stickers, I'm sure he'd like them. Also, I meant stinger roadkill, not over kill before.

Yes, I was talking about EXO. Really cool guy, hoping to see him a bit more this summer. Maybe next time you come up I'll meet up with you guys. I can't wait to see the wall, it's going to be sick. Hmmm... Now I kind of don't want to go over 145 db lol. My dad is a Volvo mechanic and I think it would make him cry if my sunroof shattered lol. I've heard that adding some stinger overkill around the sunroof helps a lot (or something comparable would work I'm sure), so I'm considering doing that. I'm not sure how loud the Xcon's will get in this car, but I have a feeling it's going to be pretty loud, considering this one lethal injection tears it up pretty good. I actually don't know about the havoc you are talking about is. What happened? I'm sure whatever it is it really sucks lol. I just used a male-to-male 3.5 mm headphone cable to connect my zune into the rear aux port of my pioneer HU. Or are you talking about the mounting kit? Because if you are, none of them will ever fit correctly in a Volvo haha. I know mine looks ok, but it's really terrible. I basically just had to shove it in there and call it good, it's not solid like the install I did in my girlfriend's car. I'm just going to get a double din at some point and avoid the whole mess. Let me know if I didn't quite answer your question, I don't feel like I did.

Thanks! And nevermind, I just saw your signature. It's cool that you are on Team Soundstream, I actually have a friend (local) that's on the team. Also, my brother is pretty obsessed with Soundstream haha.

No problem! I'm happy that I could help someone! Yes, Volvo's do seem to require a plan of attack when modifying them lol. I swear the engineers that design them purposely make it a pain in the ass haha. I'm envious of your S60, that's my favorite of all their sedans. I'll keep an eye out for it. Which 6.5" speakers are you putting in there?

The amp is in! It is a beast. It's the most awesome sight I have ever seen lol. I can't wait to hook this baby up, it's ridiculous. For those of you who don't know, it does 3600 watts at 1 ohm, 12.8 volts rated. That means even more powah at 14.4! According to some sources 4600-4800 watts at 1 ohm. It's pretty sweet. Anyway, on to the pics. Wow that is a huge box. For some reason I could not get this picture to come in clear. I think the amp was distorting the camera's image by being so awesome lol. I really like the input section on this amp. Quite the step up from the Punch 500-2 lol. Very nice, very nice... This is the Incriminator badge on the front of the amp, it looks really bad ass in real life. Here is a pic of the amp guts. Looks really nice! Just thought I'd throw in a pic of Kendra I'm really impressed. I'll be sure to post more when I get some more progress going.

Effeciancy and amps
Well it comes down to power draw mostly. The 90% efficient amp is going to take less current (amperage) than the 70% efficient amp will to produce the same wattage. The 90% efficient amp will draw ~43.4 amps at 12.8 volts to produce 500 watts and the 70% efficient amp will draw ~55.8 amps to produce 500 watts at 12.8 volts. Music is dynamic though, so it will vary. But the point is that the 90% efficient amp is going to take less power to produce the same wattage as the 70% efficient one.

Oh yeah, I'll be sure to. I think it's really fun to share this stuff with other people and hopefully some of it is helpful to someone else who might be thinking of doing the same thing. I can't wait to get things rolling again it's limited to my pay schedule lol. I'll be sure to post some updates along the way though, especially with the 40.1.

Ulrisa's Volvo S40 Build
Did a little more tuning today, and I've got to say, these things rock! It's like having mini-subs in my doors lol. On top of everything the xmax is just fun to watch lol. I'm getting much closer to the punch feeling I desire.

Best of the worst? *Pre-packaged HT in a box*
I know that it isn't optimal, but have you considered the logitech z-5500 system? It's around $300 and it has a hardware dts/dolby decoder if you run optical or coaxial cables to it. I use one for my computer and it actually sounds pretty good considering the price (especially with optical/coaxial out, the channel seperation is perfect. Much better than just straight 3.5mm headphone cables). You can mount the satellites on walls or shelves or whatever, they have screw holes. Heres a link: Newegg.com - Logitech Z-5500 505 Watts 5.1 Digital Speaker System

Ulrisa's Volvo S40 Build
Ok, sorry for the wait! The drivers are in. I took a few pictures along the way, but I was really tired after work the past few days so I never got to post them up. So here are some of the pictures of the progress. The vinyl did not come out well I am sad to say, I kind of messed it up. I'm going to find a way to redo or fix it soon, but for now its all about the sound. I took out the stock tweeter mount and cut it a bit and fit in the new tweeter in there. It actually came out really good. Here is the tweeter mounted in position. Hmm.. Which one is better? lol I put a ring of SDS butyl rope around the speaker hole so the fiberglass back piece would make a good seal. I also put some leftover pieces of CLD tiles around the ring to seal the hole completely. Oh, and the fiberglass piece didn't line up with the stock screw holes, so sheetrock screws came to the rescue lol. I just put a small washer around them to prevent them from going right through the fiberglass. Again, the vinyl makes me sad . This is how it looks in the door. Pretty sexy Overall it came out pretty well for my limited skills. I just wish I had done a little more vinyl work before I did these. So I got it all hooked up and I went to set my crossover. I thought that my amp had a pretty flexible crossover, but I guess it does not. I was thinking of a different 4 channel amp I have that doesn't work. Luckily my brother had an old California Profile crossover that just so happened to have exactly what I needed. I switched out that crappy rca for another one of those beefy ones btw lol. I still need my own crossover, and apparently one with a bandpass option is unobtainable. M5 might be helping me out (eagerly waiting his reply) in that department, I'm going to buy his DX-28 as soon as I get my next paycheck. Finally, for how they sound. They sound awesome! With minimal tweaking they already sounded great. The staging with the stock dash mounts is actually really awesome. I'm happy I didn't cut up my a-pillar for nothing. I have a lot more midbass, and the clarity is awesome. I am very pleased with my purchase, those speakers were worth every penny. I plan on getting an equalizer or something though, I'd like to tweak them a little more and the pioneer I have right now only has a 7 band equalizer that is a little too broad for my tastes. I'd suggest these speakers to anyone who is on the edge about them.

Active Crossover
PM Sent on the DX28, it would be perfect for my needs.

Active Crossover
Hi- Does anyone know of some good active crossovers that have bandpass options? All of the ones I've been looking at only do high pass and have a subwoofer output. I really need one that can do a bandpass 50 hz to 2.5 khz, or just a 2.5 khz low pass for my mids. Then a 2.5 khz high pass for the tweeters. Obviously the high pass isn't hard to find but for some reason the low pass is... Any suggestions? Budget is maxed out at around $150. Any other info required just ask and I'll let you know. Thanks!
