  1. My skill saw skillz are less than skillful. Inner port wall meeting 45 Same problem at port mouth. Looks like I tried to cut this baby out with a sawzall or something. Both problem areas got sanded down, but I don't know if I took pics of that or not. We shall see. Looks like I did take a pic. Inner-port 45 fixed. Grandfathers are a gift from God; I come down to the workshop after school and find this has been done for me because Grandpa was "feelin' like using the rasp." The nerve of the man, doing good deeds for no good reason! I did the nasty caulk fail you see. Other one fixed too. Grandpa really went to town! Completed turn in the port. All taped up and ready for paint, but I have something else to show you first... Don't laugh now...
  2. Figured I'd try these little connector dealies from part-sex-press. lol Did you know if your hand is bigger than your speaker cutout you have cancer??? Here come the photos I obviously took way too close. Hope you can tell what they are. First attempt at the 45s. Meh, this is the corner in the port: Towards bottom right of pic is port opening, outer walls of port not on yet. Same corner from the other side This was kinda in the last pic too
  3. Pile o' wood. Test pic to make sure I still remembered how to use photobucket

  5. If you don't contact soundstream then I will! This is seriously magazine-quality work right here. You AND your boy got some sssskkkkkiiiiiiillllllllzzzzzz! p.s. All those "#1 Dad" mugs should have your picture on the back for sure.
  6. This looks like some hideous mutated version of say, Jackie Chan if he was 2ft tall! I love this thing! It's like a super angry leprechaun with a machine gun, it's like if you put a 5.0 in a go-cart, its.... Oh to hell with it, gimmie one!
  7. You do some strange stuff with your build logs, but you gotta risk it to get the biscuit! Way to think outside the box, in several different ways.
  8. Been off the forum for awhile, and catching up with this build took awhile: I am definitely feeling your pain with all the painting/sanding! All this labor intensive stuff would kill me! Once you're all done with this build, loan the car to Soundstream to shoot some pics for an add or something and make some of your money back! I would seriously give your son another birds and bees talk when this car is finished, cause there'll be ladies jumpin from left and right!
  9. I think this is B-E-A-Utiful!
  10. Get a saturn. F-ing bulletproof, GM makes 'em since you're a chevy guy, and they get fantastic gas mileage. Oh, and they are cheap as hell, up front and on insurance, and they have a surprisingly large following, check out sixthsphere.
  11. Can't wait for some purdy pictures... Glad to see you've got your indecisive rear in gear! I'm just messing around, it's good to see that you take your time to get it right.
  12. This is so cool! Everytime I see this build I start geeking out and hyperventilating! Keep it coming
  13. Well, I would suggest going that far down in your tuning; unless you are listening to straight low tones or chopped and screwed stuff. As for room to lay your amp down, you could make a rack so it kinda slanted up on an angle. Shizzzon knows alot about adjustable ports, maybe pm him?
  14. Not trying to put a damper on the build, because the enclosures look most excellent, , but how big are the ports on each one? They look awful small.
  15. It is sometimes hard to find a shop that will sell any decent selection of components. Don't get me wrong; if you are willing to drive a little ways you can find a shop that has good equipment, but they've probably sold their souls to one or two manufactures and only deal in their merch. Best bet would be borrow some cash, buy 2 or 3 sets that you think you would like, test them, keep what you like and sell what you don't. The budget makes that difficult, but if you live by your budget you won't get what you most desire.
  16. hmm so i guess its settled, gonna do a 3.2 cube box with 3 4" aeros each with a length of 23". now do i gotta support those aeros inside the box at all? and whats the general rule, how close can the ports be to a wall? cause ill have a max of like 6 inches from the side of the box to the side of my truck new problem, the aero's you can buy at Precision Port 4" Flared Port Tube Kit | sound ports PORT TUBES port tube port noise kits kit ar | Parts-Express.com only come in 17 inch lengths, and i need 23 inch lengths, can i just buy some 4" pvc pipe and attach the aero ends to it? Parts Express also sells Dayton's ala-carte aero system, where you can buy tubes, inside and outside flares, coupler tubes, and elbows separately. I don't know what you mean by how close they can be to a wall... Each opening is supposed to be the diameter of the tube away from any obstruction is all I know... I think... lol
  17. hmm the only weird thing about the SSA store SSA Store - Sundown Audio SA-8 Subwoofer is it says its still a pre-order item, which i know its really not, but why havent they updated it? also, how would subs up, ports coming out the side sound? cause thats the only way id be able to get 23" long aero's inside the box. also ive never used aero's before, do you have to put brackets on them so they dont move around at all inside the box or do you just let them hang there? You will be fine with the ports coming out of the side so long as there is sufficient room for air-flow by the ports. As far as the aero's go, I have never used them myself so I do not know how to best mount them. I just know that there is not enough port area for a non-flared port, but because Steve has had experience with a similar set-up, I would be inclined to ask him. If he says it sounds good probably does.
  18. You do realize that this is probably going to wind up in Super Street? Awesome job!
  19. I think that you would want more port area than that, I'd use at least 3 4" aeros. You would have to recalculate your design a bit to account for the extra port displacement if you wanted to keep the tuning at 35Hz. Each of the ports would have to be about 23" long. You could still use even more port area, cause the SA-8s have a usable throw of 25mm and they use it all.
  20. Yeah, it's not really worth the risk if you are only doing it for your own ears, (I believe you said you do compete but this is more for you than that). The increase in cone area should give you all the boom you need; you shouldn't have to run it at .5. Just go ahead and get the recone done, it could save you some hassle with your amp in the future.
  21. So you are going to strap the two MB Quart amps? Either way, sundown audio recommends something between .6 and 1.0 cuft per sub for the SA-8s, so if you can figure out how you want to do that, go for it! Here is a good site to calculate necessary port area/length: port stuff Here is an aero port calculation: aero port calculation stuff
  22. It would be darn hard to build the wall, test with the 1 10 method, then tune the wall. Unless the OP used external/removable ports.
  23. I agree with everyone who is saying bigger box and more port area. What happened to your other box? I know that you made 2 in your build log...
  24. Well, unless you have to hop on a boat for an hour, hack through the jungle, get to a helipad and take off for a day-long journey out of the heart of the Amazon basin, the drive will probably be worth it. Listen to the speakers at the nearest shop, but don't feel compelled to buy them. If they are a name-brand and you like them, you can probably fine them cheaper on the good ole 'net.
