  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I suppose I'll keep an eye on db-r for some refurbed Sundowns.
  2. The price on the Audiopipe has piqued my intrigue while still maintaining some upgrade-ability.
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but if each amp sees 1 ohm wouldn't that be a nominal .5 ohm load? At least I believe that's the way it was explained to me.
  4. I've had trouble finding info on Audiopipe. I'm always a little leery of older amps and they're not as readily available all the time.
  5. I'm looking for a 2000 watt amp to run my Sundown Z15's. Since only d2's were left I'll be running a 2 ohm load. I'm looking to spend under $500 and so far the only amp I'm finding to fit what I'm looking for is the Alpine MRP-2000. I've considered spending a little more and getting a 1 ohm stable amp but run it at 2 ohm in case I decide to upgrade, although at this point I really don't intend to since I have other hobbies that I'd rather waste my money on. Any other suggestions/feedback on Alpine amps? I'm not up to speed with Alpine since the only thing I own from Alpine is an early 90's model. Also, any other brands I should be looking into? Thanks for looking.
  6. If you ever end up in Ohio, I've "heard" you can walk into the American Bass shop and get real real good deals as long as you pay cash. Don't know if it's true though.
  7. I've always crimped it snug with a vice grips and soldered it from there. I have no doubt soldering without crimping shouldn't be a problem but I figure better safe than sorry.
  8. Yup, as long as you order 500 amps.
  9. Wasn't really confused, but yeah I understand. Ordered something from yall today, I am supportive of SSA. Good. Glad you don't hold a grudge I can guarantee I don't. I am an easy person to figure out on the forums and unless drunk, consistent. Given your posts on the forum I find it hard to believe we hail from the same sunny state.
  10. With that small of a budget you should consider a little less power.
  11. Good job on the wire, I hate tearing apart the interior to run wires. It's such a bitch. Also, on the alternator, call around to some auto electric shops and see what it costs to rewind your alternator.
  12. This applies with anything you want to buy worth any value. You seek what other people say, would you buy car worth 30 grand that will only last 100,000 miles and will need constant maintenance? or would you buy a quality car that could last double that with minimal upkeep? RD is very very shady. Personally customer service for me is 90% of the appeal to me 10% of the product. If something breaks (and its inevitable) I want to be able to have a quick response and be able to get things repaired in a timely manner. He wasn't speaking on customer service, he was speaking on performance. Based on the mix and match parts for some of the drivers, entire amp model failure, recalled amps, and drastically over ratted amp model and high failure rate of another, I think that is more then enough to speak on their product performance. I don't know anything about RD besides what I've read in this and a few other threads so I'm sure you're right. I'm not claiming to know much about the subject. wolf said that RD was a great product, people disagreed and went on to cite customer service problems and "shady" dealings to support their argument. If you're arguing about a product's performance give reasons to persuade someone to agree with you. I really have no opinion one way or the other, but this type of arguing is pretty prevalent on car audio forums. Two or more people will be arguing about something but it's as if they're not reading each other's posts and replying with the same rhetoric over and over. A lot more can be learned from a substantive argument.

  14. Impressive looking subs, impressive numbers, interesting box. If this was facebook I'd like this thread.
  15. I kind of have to agree with wolf, it looks as though he's kind of playing devil's advocate. A lot of a company's reputation in this hobby seems to be, in essence, propped up by supporters who haven't used their product. Not saying any company is good or bad. Not saying it doesn't seem to be common knowledge that RD isn't a company to deal with because of previous dealings but a lot of what I've read at least doesn't seem to about the product itself. With the previous paragraph being completely objective I'll say that personally I would never use RD in my own vehicle based on what I've read, doesn't matter to me if they make the best equipment in the universe, based on what I've read I just wouldn't give them any business.
  16. Nice fab work.
  17. Looks great, just to be safe I'd cover the wire under the car with some POR-15 or the like.
  18. Looks great but please buff that truck.
  19. I can definitely wait. I used the truck to move some trannies and now theres tranny fluid all over the back of the truck, which sucks because up until now the interior was practically brand new looking. Oh well. I really wish I had pics of the last and first box I built. It was a train wreck. I was in highschool and was in a rush to get everything together. Now I'm a little more mature and can slow it down and do it right. Absolutely nothing is set in stone but I'm thinking somewhere around 7cubes around 30-35hz. That'll be another discussion when I get there though. I still have to measure the back of the truck and decide whether or not I can keep my 3rd row seat and still have a decent amount of room for hauling stuff in the back.
  20. Well I just bit the bullet and ordered two Sundown Z15's. Considering I've gone without bass almost all of the last 7 years it won't take much to impress me and the price was right.
  21. Yeah, but when they're used you can pick them up for less than $200 in some cases. That's a hell of a deal regardless. imo they're decent but they're definitely not cheap on accident.
  22. I read a 25 page thread on CA about Maxxsonics amps some time ago, it was a huge pissing match but a lot of results were posted. Of course I can't find it now. IIRC the 2000.1 made something like 20XX RMS @ 12.5v, don't remember the exact numbers but it squeaked by. I was impressed as hell by the Crunch GP3000D though. Personally I like Maxxsonics, I've owned a few and have always felt I got a good amp for the price. My buddy has been running his Brutus at 1 ohm daily since 2004.
  23. shakes posted a topic in Classifieds Feedback
A+ SELLER, AN ASSET TO EBAY FRIENDLY CONTACT, FAST SHIPPING WOW!!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!!!
  24. Yeah, I figured that would be the answer I'd get. lol At any rate, I was looking in the Sundown section at the Z15 closeouts, if theres any left that seems like something I'd be interested in. Looks like he only has D2's left so I'd have to get a larger amp and run 2 ohm or strap 2 amps... But I suppose the money I'd save over another brand would even out. If you get a d2 you can run it at 1 or 4 ohms: Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams, One 2 ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Speaker I should have clarified, I'm more than likely planning on running 2 woofers.
