Welcome to the IHoP
Pootie tang? Wa Da Tah, my brotha, Wa Da Tah. Such a horrible movie but Louis CK is still the man. One of his HBO specials, was just priceless. Shame his show never took off. There is talk it might be coming back but not on HBO. Although I don't know how you could do the same show on another network because he's just too "real" for most networks.

Can someone give me a hand?
I'm trying to buy something on woot but I can't register for whatever reason. If someone would be kind enough to buy it for me if I paypal you the money, it would be greatly appreciated. Being Canadian does pose some challenges, unfortunately. This would also entitle you shipping the item to me, but I would be paying for the shipping from you to me as well. Post here or pm me if you're interested.

Giving away a media vault and $100 worth of HD music downloads...
I thought the HD part was stressing that they offer lossless downloads rather than compressed mp3's. At least that's what I gathered from their website.

CSO / SIN - STATUS
SIN was my first real car audio forum and I loved it but I wasn't on enough to really gel with any of the members and I lost interest when things started to slow and manufacturers left. Still, there's a lot of good info there. Can someone pm me an email at which I can reach Josh?

diy Kits?!?!?!?
Will the Exodus kits be using the HDS tweeter from Peerless? That would be pretty balling if that is the case, not that the 9950 was a bad tweeter either. As far as crossovers go, the least expensive crossover will probably feature the most expensive drivers. Think about what you have to account for in a really good design...once you start adding Zobels, notch filters, L-pads, etc, you'll see your price really sky rocket, especially if you're using good quality parts with reasonable tolerances. You can avoid some of these by picking the right drivers with smooth response and relatively flat impedance within the bandwidth you intend to use them (usually means a fair bit of copper in the motor). And if you're having your xover assembled on a PCB ahead of time, well...you get the point. All in all, the crossover makes or breaks the performance (in my opinion). I'd think about waiting it out for the Exodus kits if you're looking for good powerful 2 way performance. Not sure if they have plans for a MTM, but that could be a blast.

Finally came over from the dark side......
I'm at work so I can't see any pictures except from an extremely limited number of servers, but I can make some guesses and confirm some things you've mentioned. The really big advantage of a TL, to me, is that unlike a bass reflex enclosure, a TL will perform very well and consistently in many situations. Any bass reflex enclosure is very sensitive to mistuning. This directly relates to power compression: when you apply power to the coil, the resistance increases. If you've got it warm enough to double DC Re (which isn't at all uncommon), you've also doubled Qes and Qts and, thus, your bass reflex (or virtually any ported enclosure) is considerably out of tune. This can be a bad thing, particularly when we're talking about a sub in a car where most users tend to want to put every watt possible through the coil even if there's no real output being gained. So naturally, it tends to be less peaky, which means the usable bandwidth is extended by interpretation (if there is no peak from which to judge upper and lower extension, then it sounds to us as if great extension exists). Also, excursion tends to be a little more controlled in a TL, so you naturally have more mechanical power handling. I, personally, have never cared about dumping a lot of power into a coil: it usually sounds much less pleasant than staying well within thermal limits, particularly if the other aspects of power compression (BL and Cms) are accounted for in the design of the sub. Not everyone subscribes to this, mind you. As far as compression chambers go, I've never used one in a subwoofer before for any enclosure design. The advantage is that you can typically cut down line length and total size by a bit, but the disadvantage may be that you have frequency response aberrations to deal with. I would guess that in a subwoofer, their impact would be relatively slim by comparison to the great power your transfer function holds over the final result.

Finally came over from the dark side......
I understand your point, but on some other forum (I know this one is a bit more knowledgeable), I tried to do that, and was rudely responded to that "That's not a Transmission Line", so I tried to describe what I was doing a little more, but I guess I failed miserably at that.....lol You just have a string of bad luck then...lol. F em...just build it and let us know how you like the sound.

Finally came over from the dark side......
I think Jim's point (if he doesn't mind me speaking for him) was that one should be cautious to avoid over-adjectiving things. Some choose to over-complicate the title of every enclosure they make when the general function can be described very succintly with, say, the term "Transmission Line." It'll be interesting to see the progress. The Mag is a very solid driver and when paired with a quality enclosure, I'm sure you'll have a very favourable experience.

MAW-12 home audio sub finished
I see another CSS fan. A little Canadian, I presume? How do you find the transition from your dual WR's per channel to the subwoofer? The WR's have an awful lot of output for a 4.5" driver but outside of a horn/TL hybrid (a slightly modified PAWO horn), I have had difficulty in the past mating WR's to a few subwoofers, although they were often with higher displacement than the MAW-12. I believe the EL-2 and EL-3 come with one of the Hi-Vi tweeters? I've heard some slightly mixed reviews on them, but am glad to hear that you are quite satisfied with them. The finish on the MAW-12 is quite impressive when you mention your relatively shorter history working with veneers. Your woodworking skills are quite up to par as well. Very solid all around and welcome to SSA!

A technical understanding of Polyfill
Actually, as the enclosure size increases, the length of the port may decrease (if we assume that our port cross-sectional area and Fb stay the same). But yes, you've got the general idea.

Newbie...Rl-S
Personally, I really really do not recommend the RL-s in a ported enclosure. They are much better suited for sealed enclosures. If you prefer ported, you're better off using a few RL-p's.

Welcome to the IHoP
I played football for a few years but just didn't have the time to continue the commitment. Practice every day after school was tough when I was doing soccer, basketball, and piano at the same time.

Welcome to the IHoP
So I now know that Sean and Aaron have played soccer. How many HOP posters have played competitively before? I did for a few years until I hurt my back and won a couple provincial championships in the meanwhile.

Phil's work seems to be quite impeccable. He posts occasionally on here and, more frequently, on CAF. I've never heard an issue with him.

Welcome to the IHoP
The rough process involves inputting DC current, moving the cone assembly 1mm, measuring BL Force via a digital force gauge, and dividing by current, thus achieving Newtons/Ampere, as BL is often specified. The beauty is that I am in total control of the resolution of the BL curve, although there are certainly limits. It is a fairly direct process, which is nice.

Welcome to the IHoP
As a rough generalization, effect should be used as a noun or an adjective while affect is typically a verb. Thus, Aaron would have that sort of effect on women.

Welcome to the IHoP
Aaron: What are you looking to test? I should have the first stage of my testing setup in place, which will include thiele/small measurement, frequency response, inductance, and BL over stroke (similar to the manner in which Dumax measures it).
