  1. Adding more to the stack only works if the steel is not already saturated. At that point, you can achieve higher BL through integration of B. Of course, adding more B is totally useless if you haven't got the L to integrate the flux. More magnets does not translate to a larger gap, a taller top plate does. But! A taller stack can be used to gain more clearance in the rearward direction; yes, you could just machine a taller top plate, but it proves more challenging to saturate and magnetic material is much less expensive than the purchase of raw steel and the machining required after the fact. All things considered, a thin and wide magnetic structure is preferable, but this really limits your rearward clearance.
  2. Bingo. High Qes with no better than average Mms means you've got a driver that isn't especially efficient; average at best.
  3. Well, higher and lower BL (more specifically, BL^2/Re) most definitely relates to damping, as it manifests itself in Qes. Whether higher or lower is required is dependent on the intended application. The fundamental issue at hand is not an argument of whether high mass sounds sloppy or high inductance sounds sloppy, but rather that a poorly engineered speaker will sound like a poorly engineered speaker. There is nothing inherently better or worse about any speaker size or even any speaker material if the design is well engineered to compensate.
  4. Very happy bithday Shawn.
  5. Welcome and enjoy the show.
  6. I always used the "View New Posts" button instead of this, but this is very nice as well. Have you given any thought to moving this to a side bar?
  7. For a subwoofer, I think the perceived accuracy of the driver has a lot more to do with the damping characteristics of the speaker and the enclosure it is coupled to. I agree that inductance has an effect, but not a particularly noticeable one throughout most of the average subwoofer's bandwidth. If it's below the inductive rolloff corner frequency, you won't see much effect.
  8. I am a fan of D2's right now because they allow me to maximize my power in the vehicle and the house (for single sub setups, of course).
  9. Happy Birthday Aaron.

  11. Just for future reference, the SSA Shop forum is here: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...hp?showforum=56 On the index page, it's the second group of forums. Sorry I can't move it or answer, but Aaron and Mark will certainly take care of you.
  12. Is that a spray-on liner? It's a nice understated box treatment, that's for sure.
  13. Forgot how much I liked this song so I just had to post it. Queen - Radio Gaga With the right stereo, the bass that serves as the driving bottom octave harmony sounds absolutely great. One of the few times where I've thought "hey, that bass sounds good!"
  14. Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
  15. It has taken long enough. Nearing halfway through 2007 and none of the 2006 products are available yet. Hopefully this is a good sign.
  16. Again, that 15" looks yummy. Qtc .707 looks to be around 3.0 to 3.25 cubic feet.
  17. Can you possibly do the third one, but instead of "Voted best click of 2007", replace it with a slightly transparent view of the rear of the Icon? I like em dark
  18. Any chance you can do a userbar while you're at it? If not, I'll do a simple one this weekend.
  19. Mine hasn't come yet.
  20. We built two of the Dayton 8 MTM's and there is a big hole in frequency response at the upper and lower end, respectively, of each passband. If you were to change the design a little bit and go to maybe two 7" reference series drivers I think you would be much happier.
