  1. Much of it has to do with performance. The pressure behind the dust cap on the Xcon can get much greater then on the Icon, so the single full concave dust cap on the Xcon can take that pressure better then the convex dustcap on the Icon. The Xcon dustcap is a little heavier, but for the Xcon, it is needed.
  2. JL amplifiers are very nice, but the crossover network does not compare, and you are getting more power per dollar with Sundown, not to mention you can talk directly to the owner here.
  3. Reasons: #1 Jacob #2 The support forum here #3 pricing #4 happy customer base #5 tested openly and shared here #6 highly reviewed #7 excellent crossovers, especially on 4 channel models #8 used by SPL and SQ competitors alike #9 used in the official SSAudio demo truck #10 and so on
  4. Was that a slip or did you mean to spell it "heep"?
  5. Hockey - Too Fake (RAC Mix)
  6. Naw I never caught that but my friends used to hate me because I could always catch slip ups in movies and such, sometimes I think Im too observant. I think I have it on DVD. I will look for it next time. Anyway, German cars should have Bilsteins anyway. Mmmmmm, Bilsteins I love mine. Put them on 4 vehicles, want to put them on the 5 next.
  7. I was mistaken, it was Speed that posted it.
  8. The only ones that have come back were damaged in shipping or user abuse.

  10. Reposting to see if I can get it to work for him. So last night I took around an hour or so to write up some huge review on my new pair of 18'' Sound Solution Audio Xcons. Unfortunately there was a url glitch and the thread is gone, so I will try to sum up my product review instead of another 5000 word essay. The SSA Xcon is an amazingly solid driver that has absurd amounts of low end output (off little power might I add) and still acts incredibly responsive, the sound quality of this sub does not hold back its ability to "get loud" one bit. I feel that the Xcon is a very under appreciated driver in today's market, so luckily for you all interested in this sub, I'm taking more time to write this second review. My enclosure is 14^3ft, all 3/4'' birch ply doubled up all around tuned to 27hz.. Originally I had a pair of 18'' nightshades (3kw versions), and all though I highly recommend all sundown products, I shortly realized the nightshades were too SPL oriented for my application. After switching to the SSA Xcons and only powering them with an AQ 1200d at .5ohms, I blew my trucks sunroof off its hinges @ 30hz and it sounded pretty damn good while doing it. These drivers are amazing, I still can't believe something can produce sound this tight and get so loud at the same time. At first I was a bit hesitant at the single slug design, but the first note that dropped completely took all my doubt away. (and took my sunroof away) The icing on the cake would have to be the sub is down right attractive due to the heavy ass concave cone and textured 12 spoke basket. As far as cons go, I haven't ran into any big ones yet. But from an unbiased point of view I have to reach up in my ass and bring something out. One would be the push terminals couldn't fit my 8 gauge, but not too many drivers take wire that thick. The only other thing would be some might consider the power handling a bit low at 1750 RMS, but after further listening I feel that their RMS rating is matched perfectly with their suspension. Regardless, if you need more power handling than 1750, then you can't be too interested in how the driver sounds in the first place. Also I should note that with each driver only getting ~750 a piece, I'm more than completely satisfied with how loud they get, and I have had previous daily set ups in previous cars with over 3000 watts of power. So all bullshit aside, if you are looking for a driver that has incredible low end output, and still enough precision to make an audiophile shit himself, then the SSA Xcon is what you want. I'll post some pictures below, and when I get some more power I will throw up my numbers and videos. the drivers the enclosure gave it some foam and vinyl...
  11. Agree with things people have posted before this, but just an fyi to you- a sub's power handling has absolutely nothing to do with its sound quality. Nor does a high number even mean it will get loud. Quoted for a reason. To add to it, I wish I had more people demo the Xcon in the sealed box I had it in with only 240 watts. It would have helped get rid of this perception that just because it is ratted for 1750, does not mean in the slightest that it needs it. Along the lines of having a 911 GT3, just because it can do 180+mph, does not mean you need to drive it that fast to still get insane performance. send me an xcon and i would run it sealed off of 240 watts lol. It took me awhile to understand this perception also, I always thought you had to get an amp to match the subs rating it must be getting that from the amp to perform well. After a few years of installation and understanding that subs sound just as good on small amounts of power too that I learned you dont have to have the sub seeing enormous amounts of wattage to perform. Headroom is a good thing, but not required.

  13. i never knew that the xcon took after the icon. all i knew was that it had good output and that ssa tends to make good sq products. so relax a little Jay is only of the more relaxed guys on the site. Anyway, the Xcon does not really take after the Icon. They are different in design, only shared parts are surround and basket. The Xcon is the sound quality choice for those people who want to push their output limits also. The Icon has some good xmax, but the Xcon takes it to another level. So the Xcon is like the Icon on the juice, but it took a different path to get there.
  14. Quite possibly one of the largest single threads ever.
  15. All of the drivers initially asked about will have very good results in the correct enclosure and install. The trick is finding which model is the best suited for you.
  16. Since we don't do sales, and unless we change the driver, this is the pricing.
  17. Ouch, hope it can get fixed quickly.
  18. SSA Dcon line up price drop! Since we know these are excellent drivers that are very capable of surprising people and are one of the best offerings in the 300 watt ratted "SQ" minded sub woofers on the market. There are not that many are out there, (even after extremely positive reviews, and a give-away), so we are officially lowering the price to make them a little more affordable. SSA Dcon 10D4/S4 now $115 !! SSA Dcon 12D4/S4 now $125 !!
