You can build a 1.0 even box and it will be just fine. As Sean mentioned, try out the polyfill and find the sound you like.

When I am able to get a hold of our build house and get the mini run going I will get the list together for the SSA members who want one. But in the mean time, here is a pair of pictures of the interior of the box so you can see there are no tricks. I can take a shot of the driver in its box here soon, just need time with day light and no rain, and for me to have both at the same time is very rare.

Port it, tune the enclosure to about 30-33hz and give it a clean 750 or so watts.

Do you have a budget for an amplifier?

They are intended for clean sound. They run great off of anywhere between 500 to 1000 watts. With the low QTS. they can thrive in a smaller ported box. Mike, owner of SoundSplinter is very good to his customers.
