Popping noice from my BTL 15
no experience with Quantum Audio, but any company that wants to show-off a cap on their homepage as if it's something helpful and important is definitely not going in the right direction..... looks like cheap

Hifonics OLM Subs ?
I had an idea who he was, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't speak my reasoning. I feel I gave good information to the OP, and already said how "quality" was a poor choice of wording, and also clarified which particular drivers I am comparing.

Hifonics OLM Subs ?
Thank you for clearing that up. no problem, and I if you didn't gather... I think Xcons are amazing

Midbass for front stage
the Hybrid mid-bass are expensive, otherwise I would just pick them up. looking for a pair of 8's to cover from ~40- ~120, then two pairs of 6 1/2's to cover from ~50hz and have ability to play to 2khz. Right now my 4's are playing from 100hz and up thru 20khz, but after mid-bass in I plan on cutting them off around 160 on the low.

New setup
mounting depth wise, because of the angle either the BTL or BL should work for you. with that power, I would just go for the BL as for space, my recommendations would be using two layers of 1/2" MDF for 1" thick walls, this would help maximize strength and inside box volume. a couple braces would help too, but basically i come up with a total of 5.1 cuft, closer to 4.7 after bracing and sub displacement. then figuring on ~12 sq. in. of port per cube, that gives you 4 cuft of actual usable air space for the woofers. best way I can see of doing the install would be to use aeroports out the top of the box, ideally speaking if you had room to let the ports extrude out the top of the box, you could tune lower and get your total internal volume up closer to ~4.4 cuft. if you can't, then tuning anywhere in the low 30 hz range will be tricky, will have to turn the port inside the box to get it to fit, seeing as in this situation your only option for port location will seem to be on the top plate of the box, which for performance is perfectly fine. and for the tuning, what are your goals with this system?

Midbass for front stage
edit by M5: Topic split to allow the OP to have his thread back. Split from here: what Hybrids have you used? just curious as well, what cost less that in your opinion outperforms? I am looking to try some new mid-bass drivers for the doors, so I never mind trying new equipment. Just as far as midranges I have never found anything to touch my L4's

Hifonics OLM Subs ?
your welcome man, that's why we're here

Thoughts on specs
curious, what woofer is that? I mean a piece of junk it seems more or less, but curious where you found it?

Hifonics OLM Subs ?
Fi Q with BP power handling- $244 RMS- 1000 watts plus BP power ~1300 RMS SSA Icon- $275 1000 RMS multiply RMS by four, so you have 4000 watts of power handling versus ~5200. since it is one amp on four woofers. price difference Q's- $976 Icons- $1100 and I never said power handling dictates price. take the Xcon for example, so many people run 2000 watt single sub setups, and run woofers that cost twice as much as the Xcon and don't perform nearly as well. i am also not comparing two woofers solely on power handling, but price and power handling in this case are the two major differences between the Q and the Icon, remember comparing Q with BP power, not Q without.

Smart config for SQ using Mmats D3500.5 amp
check out this forum for SQ. absolute best SQ team/designers/products in the world. Maybe a biased opinion, but the trophies prove it. check out some of Scott Buwalda's builds, he's a multi-SQ world champion, and many of his SQ setups are 2 or 3 IB woofers in the sound deck. yes, a well prepped trunk is basically key. the Q won't work in IB, but fi does make an actual IB woofer the IB3. here's the link to the forum, lotta smart guys on here too, just that this forum really focuses on pure SQ and many would agree Team Hybrid is the elite in the SQ lanes! http://www.buwaldahybrids.com/phpBB3/ take the time to go through a couple of the Team Hybrids builds, I'm sure you will find them quite impressing all the work they do

Popping noice from my BTL 15
Sundown 2000d. great amp, runs a bit over 600 new, db-r.com has a refurb for like 459 right now, so that would be a steal. just some other ideas though... Sundown 3500d. RF T30001bd. RF T2500bd Treo SSX2000.1 Incriminator Audio 20.1 RF T20001.bd Audioque 2200d. Soundstream TRX 2000d Alpine M2000 (amp is 2 ohm tho, so would have to re-cone to a dual 1 and wire in series for a 2 ohm load) Hifonics 2610d. (many ppl may rag on this amp, but it will push at least a true 2300 rms. for the dollar it's a good amp) I mean the list kinda goes on and on with these woofers as many people run 2kw on them, and many others run 3kw+ on them daily. for you, I may recommend just getting a solid 2kw amp though. I made the list with prices all over, so it depends on what you want to spend, also loosely in order of my personal recommendation

Fi or SSa
the only thing that can really make a difference is the fact that fi is offering free BP power option right now on the Q's, didn't see tho, are you trying to run it sealed?
-
Hifonics OLM Subs ?
they are built in the same place, but as I'm understood not necessarily same process, and design. remember, Fi is selling direct, for other companies they must be able to build the woofer cheap enough for merchant company to re-sell for a profit. I think SSA makes a great product, but I don't see why you would spend more money on a product when you can buy a custom sub for less directly from the person who builds and designs their woofer. I shouldn't say not same quality your right, but in this particular case, how can a more expensive sub with less power handling be a good recommendation? everyone has their favorite company, I mean I am on team sundown and plan on personally running a thousand watts daily to some SA-12's, but they are really not built for that so why would I recommend that to compare with 1200 watts drivers just cause I like the company?

hifonics BXi 2610d or BXI 2010d
I'm sorry, but do you have experience with both? Power acoustiks is an absolute joke held by no standards. Hifonics is a USA company out of chicago, and are actually held to decent build standards, and also offers competition series equipment that are widely used in competition. dual 1's? perfect, I mean you will only be able to wire them all 4 at 2 ohm when you only have the one amp, but when you get the second you will be able to get full power out of them, wiring each pair of woofers to each single amp to 1 ohm. If you are careful, it's not covered by warranty, but some people do run that SAZ's at .5 ohm. I just really wouldn't recommend it, kinda my disclaimer if you do. lol

Danger in having too powerfull Alternator?
kinetik batts FTW!! sounds like you're on the right track to me

So.... What do you guys think?
lets see I think I have seen this many RD's ran in anything I've ever installed or seen at a show......ZERO! but as I have no real personal hands on experience with them, I'm not going to hate.

Hifonics OLM Subs ?
here is what he wants, don't really see why we need to start over... the BL actually handles the lows quite well, what BTL's did you have? you could always go with two 15" BTL's, although you would have more cone area with 4 12's. but any sub from Fi I would not worry about handling the lows, I have seen every line bang hard on the lowest of lows! the SSA woofers are nice, but then now are going up in price, and may not match the quality of the Fi woofers. the Icon's are a thousand watt sub, and you can't have them custom built to take more like you can the Q or BL, and at 275 a piece your over the 1k mark, especially with the Xcon's. Like I said, for that price range Fi really is your best choice. Even with willingness to spend more, i would still recommend Fi, or maybe then Treo if you wanted to really drop some cash. Sundown Audio makes some great woofers, but the SA series probably won't handle that amp, and the Nightshades are high power beasts, 4 of them could take 8-10 k watts, and would cost you double your budget.

Team Sundown Audio
you get to put Team Sundown in your avatar/sig plus there are a few knowledgeable folk, and we don't really release all of our secrets to the public....lol...like the secret to my trunk

Dbl Bellys S10 Build.
interesting you are tuning lower while going to a smaller box...will be interesting to see the results. carpet lowers DB's at a minimal, if you are a meter watcher maybe it matters, but just a daily driver, you wont' notice it to the ear. carpet is a natural insulator as it is mostly air, therefore it will absorb some of the sound. that's why MDF is so commonly used in box building, it is dense, therefore less "air" in it than normal plywood or particle board, which absorbs less sound resulting in higher db's. HDF is a newer type of wood, more pricey and tough to find, but works great. (just not with your tools) other wood that's great but again more pricey is birch... blazer, you got vids of old system?

looking for opinions on Q 18's
lol yup...I miss those reactions with my single 15" Q...of course the reactions with two 15's was fun too...gee what's going to happen with double the power on 4 12's? tbc... OP: I like your decision of the BL's you should love them! seems like so many people go the Q route or skip the BL and go str8 to the BTL when the BL is such a great sub!
