Does Kicker make good amps?
JL, Rockford, Kicker are all really good "mainstream" amps.

Subwoofer choice?
If you're playing bass tests, you're not going to want to tune high. Most rap music you listen to is in the 40-50Hz range, bass testers will go muuuuch lower than that. You can 'safely' play 1 octave below you're tuning frequency. In you're case, in theory, you can play to 17.5Hz with you're woofer being safe.

If you're getting a good deal on it, by all means do it. Are there better amps? Definitely.

Best Loud SQ Sub
I've owned both. Unfortunately I didn't have a direct comparison. (12" Q in 2.3 ported at 32Hz and 10" Icon in XXX at 25hz) The Q was in my car, the Icon for my buddies 90% music HT...So I can't give an unbiased answer, but if I had to pick between I think I would go with the Icon.

How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
You can't go wrong with Sundown. Not to sound pompous, or full of ourselves here, but before you buy, ask us here. We won't try to peddle you a product, or give you false information. A bunch of good guys here.

why is "SQL" looked down upon, so much?
I hate the idea, but what bothers me more is the acronym. SQL = Sound Quality Loud? How about: LSQ: Loud Sound Quality Regardless I like to pretend it doesn't exist.

So my buddy wants a system but...
If he's interested in some, I have two magnets that I would be willing to rebuild and sell dirt cheap.

So my buddy wants a system but...
They aren't a high power handling woofer. With the right box, and the right power, those suckers will get FREAKING loud. Build big and tune low.

wiring active help
In an active setup, each speaker needs an individual channel of amplification. You also need a way to control this channels frequency. (Through the HU, an external processor, or at the amplifier.) Anyone can "go active," but I personally wouldn't recommend it for a newbie.

wiring active help
yes they do Then you can't do active. Unless you cut the crossover out.

How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Good build quality and reputation. Blunt, but it's a start. I don't have enough knowledge to answer your question though. On the bright side, there are people here that do! Be patient!

Shin splints.....
I used to be a sprinter in early high school, and I developed shin splints my junior year. I unfortunately had to quit running on the hard surfaces because of this. The grass was fine though. My favorite cardio replacement is the stairmaster. I tried everything, but nothing worked in my case..

Record player/turntable
Thanks for the replies guys, but I've decided to wait a bit on it. I just bought a new truck, and the idea of an active 3way front stage is getting me all excited.. Basically what we had planned for the 'bird, is now GOING to happen in the ranger.

Burning smell
If this is the same type of bass boost as on a car audio amplifier, turn that shtt off!. I believe it was m5 who said that you should always subtract dB's when trying to EQ. Which I know you weren't trying to EQ, but there is a reason you should subtract, not add. (within reason)

Burning smell
It's not that you were listening to it too long, but you were using too much power. A driver of that quality will play at it's RMS for a SUPER long time.

Computer speakers
Do the computer speakers have a normal + and - wire coming out of them? If so, you can probably use them..Check the impedance just to be sure. Are you using this for music or movies?

Record player/turntable
Hi all, I apologize for not being active in forever. I had to quit college to take care of my father with his aneurysm recovery, and now have a full time job with him, and another to get some cash. Life is busy. He is doing exceedingly well considering how bad his rupture was. ANYWAYS, I'm looking at picking up a decent turntable for my home theater. My Mom just told me she has numerous record from the 60's and 70's which I would like to listen to. I have NO knowledge of record players at all, so I'm hoping one of you with more experience could help me. I'm just looking at something to play the old vinyls. Budget under $200 preferable, and I have no problem buying used. Any more information you need from me, let me know! Thanks fellas, Ryan
