Just spent a 3 day weekend back at the gf's hometown of Centerville, VA. It's like 30 miles west of D.C. I believe. Lots of money there apparently, and it's ridiculous to rent or buy a house. It was a nice area though, lots of trees. Just lots of people. We went to the Air and Space Museum by Dulles airport, and that was really cool. Her dad helped work on the SR-71 and develop and test the flight suit for it when he was in the Air Force. It flew from California to DC in 1 hour and 4 minutes one time, averaging 2,100 mph. I guess it's maximum speed was 2,250 mph. Don't have to worry about SAMs at that speed, you're faster than they are. Ha. But it's entire long body behind the cockpit and the wings were just stuffed with fuel cells, and it burned through it all within 2 hours on average. That gets expensive, and the reason the plane was retired. Other interesting fact was that each pilot had an envelope with a letter and 50 cents in it, and it was for in case of a crash and somebody found the pilot they could read the letter, which said that this man is not an alien and this craft is not a UFO, and please use this 50 cents and call this number (an air force number so they could locate and retrieve the wreckage). Also, the plane was originally called the RS-71, but when President Johnson was introducing the plane at a press conference he misread it as SR-71, so it stayed that way. Ha, interesting tidbit. The Enola Gay was also in that museum. It was a bit eerie knowing its past. They also had a space shuttle and one of its engines on display. 1.5 million pounds of thrust
  2. Watch your voltage. It WILL sag down to 12 or lower on hard bass notes if you have the amp turned up to put out the BTL's RMS wattage. Do NOT let it sag below 12. If it does, turn your gain down until it doesn't, and leave it down until you get a larger alternator and extra battery. If you are smart with the gain and volume knobs, you will have no problem with 4000 watts on a BTL. However, I'll tell you that being smart means you won't be getting all 4000 watts from the amplifier.

The MRI yesterday showed a near complete tear of my ACL. goddammit. What is it with this board? Those of you who post regularly in here may want to watch your knees.

Knee has stopped getting better the last two weeks so I went in for an MRI today. We'll see what it shows on Friday. I want this damn thing to heal, I miss running and biking and lifting.
  5. It wasn't really making any good/listenable noise, just....slapping. But I guess if you're bored and want to just rig something up, at least you did something.
  6. I don't really understand the point.

Since it seems that you already have the wire, just cut strands off.
  8. Probably because you're likely clipping the amp with too high of a gain or bass boost, which sends more power than 900 watts to the sub. At full clip it could be near double that. Also, moving to an Fi section since this is just a question, no hello.
  9. I'll be waiting for the post where you say you blew these too.
  10. Well now you're going to need $200, 100 for the alternator and 100 for the recone.
  11. Buy a different sub. It's users like you that give a good product a bad name. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the power handling capabilities of the voice coil on the XCON. You just clipped the amp to shit and probably sent the sub 2500 watts. I guarantee you would have blown your Kove if you had given it the power that you gave the Xcon.
  12. No. Absolutely no difference. Once the signal is in the single positive and negative outputs before the split, it can't even tell how many splits to different terminals there are. You could put 1,000 splits with a 1,000 voice coil sub and it couldn't tell.
  13. I can't believe the underpower myth is still around. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How much power do you think your sub is receiving when you have your volume knob at 1? I'll give you a hint- it's much less than 250 watts. Chances are very good that it's even less than 1 watt. Is your sub being hurt every time you turn your head unit DOWN to level 1? Check your box for air leaks. Those sound like a tapping sound from the sub when it plays. And I'm sorry to say that your dad is very wrong about underpowering causing tinsel leads to mess up because of distortion. I don't even know how those things could be related to each other. Tinsel leads slap the cone due to excursion. If you are putting little power to a sub, unless it's in free air or below tuning in a ported box, it's not moving very much. Thus the cone wouldn't even be traveling far enough to hit the tinsel leads.
  14. So........ how big is the alternator? How big is the battery? We all don't know the factory specifications for every car ever made. A 60 amp stock alternator would have very different results with this setup than a 120 amp alternator.
  15. Well it is a normal ported box. Owned. I think he means without the 3142553523521"s of port lol Yes. It's a very small net volume box. The port area is appropriate, and the length is just what was needed for the very normal tune of 33 hz. Any other ported box with those specifications would be built the same way. So
  16. Either, doesn't matter. They're fairly similar in power output, either could destroy your sub just as easily as the other with the wrong finger on the volume knob. It's all about how you set/use the gain.
  17. Well you didn't tell us what your electrical system consists of.
  18. Again, change the box. Change the tuning frequency.
  19. Not at all. Moving to spl/sq/fabrication section.

Find some open country. Less things to run into
  21. Just turn your gain down. That will draw less current.
  22. Will sealed sound louder than what? Ported? No.
