  1. Aint that the truth. Should be the other way around..... "Hear that? & that is only the 8" variant, just wait for the rest"
  2. Damn I want to get my hands on some of these subs! This wait is killing me.
  3. Do you have a light under the hood? I have seen bad trunk lights & hood lights cause many headaches as they would stay on randomly and leave a dead battery every now & then. Unhook the batt neg terminal, connect a DMM to it & then to the batt neg. (neg cable -> DMM -> Battery) Set it to read amps and read how much current is being drawn. That will tell you how bad the drain is, and at that point you can begin pulling fuses to find which one eliminates the drain on the battery (start with amp fuses). If you unhook something & the drain goes away, THAT is whats causing the problem. There will always be a very small draw (alarm, clock memory, car ECU, etc..) but we are talking tiny. I have also seen alts have internal shorts that drain a battery when off but will still "pass" a charging system test. Disconnect the alt from the batt while doing the draw test, before or after you are pulling fuses out. Problem is, with any of those issues the batt would die all the time. With the system unhooked you said the battery was fine with the alarm armed or unarmed, pretty much rules out the alarm right there man. I would quit worrying about the alarm's armed status affecting anything, clearly it is not. With the system unhooked, how long have you let it sit? Sounds like that is the problem to me. If it made it a couple nights with the system unhooked and batt was fine, you need to start testing each part of your system and unhooking those things 1 at a time. Saying you did everything but the alarm pretty much makes everything but the alarm suspect.
  4. We will show the changes when we have the prototype. Ever thought about getting into politics?
  5. I have purchased a couple of these orphan 8's from Mike, and compared to the Audiopulse Epic 8" I bought from him a while ago, these little orphans are pretty bad ass. They are stiff as hell out of the box, much stiffer than the Audiopulse was, & they really belt out the bass. In a box they look very plain & simple, no bling here but who cares when they are as loud as they are.
  6. Here is a quick, half asleep, attempt on my part. Simple enough to engrave, silkscreen or cut in vinyl.
  7. I like this one, however I hope the black blocks with generic font would be replaced with a stylized font. I have some sweet graffiti-styled fonts, which paired with the SSA logo could really look bad ass.
  8. Nope. Your assumptions are wrong, it will weaken MDF and NOT strengthen it. Elaborate please? (I am curious)
  9. Install quality OWNS alarm quality. Entry level alarms are great as long as you take the time to do it all right.
  10. Dont forget about Mike's orphan 8's. Maybe not the same as the RLi8, but they sound just as good as my Audiopulse Epic 8" & are a little shallower. Small ported box with a PDX 600.1 and it hit just as loud & hard as the 12" Type R it replaced. (& in a box half the size) Damn I love these little woofers. (ordered another one from him today actually)
  11. w7 has way too much hype behind it. Every one I have built boxes for have been disappointing. Dont get me wrong, they sounded pretty damn good, but for the price & size of that woofer you should get more.
  12. Cops pop people here all the time for exhaust being too loud, pisses me off because choppers & crotch rockets have no sound restrictions. I get followed all the time, and my car is very quiet. (quiet for a turbocharged Honda with a full 3" high flow exhaust ) I have never gotten a ticket for a loud stereo. I got a ticket for speeding once because I couldnt hear the radar detector. Cop saw the detector going crazy (I muted it, but display was still flashing) & he asked me if it worked at all with a big ass grin on his face. Yeah, I felt like such a tool.
  13. Sealed box in the center console would sound great. Tuning that high on this sub would be a waste.
  14. So are we talking more cone travel than the Epic 8"? Because isnt that the same 12 spoke basket you were initially planning to use? (or very similar) (just a yes or no question, no specs needed) Damn I cant wait for this woofer to come out already.
  15. Type X subs are crap. The cone bracing is plastic & glues to the back of the cone. It doesnt take much at all to get the ribs to separate from the cone, since it is just paper back there. I actually like the type Rs over the X's, a lot cheaper & pound like hell still.
  16. Box is .81cuft gross (minus port of course) & port is tuned to 38hz. Tuning is kind of high, but it sounds great and really puts out the sound. After the first box I tried a small sealed box and it was alright, but not loud enough. This new box really has the sound I was after, and the bass is still accurate & crisp. I was jamming to Disturbed today & had that thing banging with the bass drum.
  17. Car: 1993 Honda del Sol, Turbo Si Electrical: stock Amps: Alpine PDX 4.150, no sub amp. Subs: 1 Audiopulse 8" Epic, in the trunk. Box: .81cuft tuned to ~36hz Mic: AudioControl Song: "I wanna love you" by Akon Score: All closed up, mic on the dash.
  18. DAMN, I am so happy with this sub right now! How loud is it? "I wanna love you" by Akon got that number, and I am only running 150w rms to that sub! Its CRAZY!
  19. Quick update. Tried changing the volume of the enclosure and it really didnt do anything. I knew the sub had to have a little more life in it so I thought I would slap a quick test box together. (temporary install) Now THIS is what I was wanting the sub to sound like! Finally came to life, and this little guy really pushes some sound. I think the problem with my other box is the low tuning freq. I bumped this one up a good amount to see what happens & so far I am pretty pleased with the output quality as well as its new found quantity.
  20. Those prices are crazy! How do they make any money? FG material costs add up quick, and painting without bondo or wood? I would love to know how they are making those boxes, that is some awesome craft.
  21. So no vids of the prototype 8"s just to tease everyone. Maybe one showing them bottoming out? You know, to give an idea of what SSA expects from its products before releasing them.
  22. Pic whoring time!! I will have a panel going across from one fender to the other to flush the front & top of the box to the trunk, as well as make a thin back wall to cover the rear of the trunk. There will be cutouts for the woofer to poke out & a similar sized opening for the Alpines to peek out of. & this little 8" really moves. I tried to take a couple pics, but they just didnt do it justice. So I tried video with my phone. It didnt either, not to mention it didnt pick up ANY bass notes either. Trust me it really isnt silent at that volume
  23. Yeah, I want to see these Icon 8's. I also built the box just big enough to squeeze a 10" in it with minimal modification & get good results still. (I am always thinking ahead) So if not an SSA 8", I am sure an Icon 10" would fit the bill
