  1. No AC or DC it make no difference. Electrons flow over the surface of wire.... home wire usually has less strands bc its cheaper to produce and you are normally dealing with less current in residential applications.
  2. Your alt has to have a + charging post, you have a 4G or a large case 6G alt..... your plug on your alt ( its a 3 wire or a 2 wire ) one wire will be to excite the regulator , for the fords one will be to the ECM depending on your model you have have a variable voltage regulator (some fuel savings bull $%) and the third will be to a 12 volt constant source.
  3. No not the size of the bolt that you mount too (though is is way small) The stud that sticks out the top for the charging wire has two lil plastic tabs on either side of the stud they are about 3/8 of an inch apart so you can only fit small terminals on it the biggest I could fit was a 6 awg terminal. No I dint have to use a new size belt but since I already had the belt off I just threw a new gatorback on. My belt tensioner has about 3 inches of travel to it, but I have had to buy new belts for for my cutlass supreem and one for my grand vitara. So I guess is depends on your aplication
  4. yeah I know im not haseling them about their service, I was just hoping for something that dint have a lil 1/4 -20 bolt sticking out the top. I would have liked to have seen hefty parts like, a 3/8 copper cooling plates, a HEAVY duty mounting location for those huge power wires we all use.
  5. Yes I did contact them and bc I had to cut some plastic off the mounting bolt for the + terminal they are unwilling to deal with me now.... I had to cut a bit off to make a 0 guage wire terminal work....this so called HO unit would only accept A 6 GAGE TERMINAL!!!! When I first took the thing out of the box and saw that I thought to myself " I should return thins bc it wont do what I need" man I should have lessened to my instincts.
  6. ok I feel retarded now...I checked 2 weeks ago site must have been down for maintenance.....shizzon, are you happy with your mech man ???
  7. Yep I put the stocker back on and everything is fine again. The pulley that is on the Ho alt is WAY smaller than stock, if this thing got much smaller it would be a 6 grove nub/shaft hanging off the end of this thing. I see that you have a mech man how did you get a hold of them they don't have a site anymore
  8. Ok, so I bought a HO alt for my taurus 2 weeks ago from a place called Quality Power Auto. The alt I bought was a 200 amp max and 125 amp at idle I paid just shy of 300 shipped to my house. I put the alt in the car today and well as the title would suggest I am VERY disappointed in the performance of this thing. First this thing has the voltage caped at 14.1 volt which is bull shit bc the stocker would do 14.4 solid in 90 degree heat in a traffic jam. At idle this alt would drop into the low 12's (like 12.1 to 12.0V) with nothing on but the head lights. It would not make all wopping 14.1 volts untill almost 3K rpm!!!!!! I tested this POS on only one of my nine.1s that has a max current draw of 130 amps and that amp with a full 30htz burp and the engine at 4k rmp dropped the voltage into the 10's !!!!!! Bottom line NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY ARE SAMMERS!!
  9. and these.............
  10. One run of 0 awg will support 280 or so amps if you use the 700 circular mills per amp of current draw rule. The idea behind 2,3,4 runs is to lower the opposition to electron transfer lessen the volatge drop from the source (alt) to the amps, or to make the electrical system as efficient as possible.
  11. If you really want to know get your grubby lil dick beaters on a amp clamp and dmm find out for yourself.....
  12. Oh yeah any good amp does more than rated power.......and if its rated at 1200, 1400 is more than likely closer to the truth. A friend of mine just bought a rockford 2500bd Rated at 2500watts. and the thing came out of the box with a birth sheet of 3098 watts!!!!! thats 598 watts more than rated power!!!!!!!

  14. .................................(crickets).........................wtf???? well I guess their is no real way to know
  15. looks sweet... I like how everything is hidden and clean, make sure you get air around those amps tho don't close them off. what program are all you guys using to make all these sweet enclosures???
  16. Unless you have someone one off a board for you you will probably just have to get a new one from Hifonics and by the time you do either you will have spent more cash then the new one.....sry man. But hey Christmas is on the way......with the next amp get a fuse holder and fuse they will run you like 30 bucks to your door for a cheapie
  17. If the voltage dropped off badly there was probably a dead short....did you loosed any fuses in the proses??? with such peaks in current inrush you should have blown a fuse or two.
  18. Well if you let the magic smoke out of the amp I am 99% sure is screewed.....probably the power supply or MOFSET, and if the magic smoke smelled really bad it was probably a wet capacitor (those things stink)....In any event I think its safe to assume your going to need another amp.
  19. I was thinking like some amps and subs in a submarine or a golf cart or something......hahaha
  20. Not going to let the cat out of the bag yet but.....why would I need springs that can handle 780lbs each in the back of my Taurus???? Hmmmmm I wonder???? pic 1 pic 2
  21. I drive an 04 ford Taurus the max width is 38 inches between wheel wells 18 inches tall and 44 deep ....... im looking at 2 12s with stats of 612$ to buy/ 960cm3 of cone area 2000 - 2800 wrms of power and box size of 3.0 too 5.0 cubes OR 3 10's with stats of 930cm3/ 609 to buy/ 2400 - 3000 wrms, and 2.7 to 4.5 cubes for the box sooo im kinda stuck between those.....but again I am totally open to your guys suggestions on what to do here should I seal off the trunk and fire into the cabin what the pros and cons of doing this, I want this to all work right the first time.
  22. sry I was half sleepin on that last one.....no my question is have any of you guys had any real success with triple 10 set ups?? and if so how did that compare to something like a single 18 or 2 12's. As of right now I am leaning t words 3 SSD 10's, but I am totally open to any other brand you guys have had good success with. my main goal for this project is a daily 2.5k ground pounder that will allow me to have a trunk but still pull off a hair trick. I have only had this BL 15 so if their is anything else out their that will do the job at a reasonable price I want to know bout it
  23. Ok well with my b-day coming and tax season around to corner I will be coming into a few extra grand to play with. SO I was playing with sealing off the trunk of the car and firing the sub into the cabin, thinking of going with 3-10's or a single 18. right, now I have a single BL 15 on 2.5k. my goal for the project is to be louder and make my trunk more usable then it is now. Before I go and spend this kind of money I want to make sure I do everything the right way the first time so I call upon you guys for some suggestions on what to go with for the project
  24. my vote FI Q's..... falls into your price and goals/interests
