Had no idea you were going to change the sub enough to bump up power handling to 1k. :)

In order to get to where I REALLY wanted to be with this sub thats the way it went. I wanted to make it pretty much bulletproof when a pair is attached to an SAZ-1500D :)

Make no mistake... they will handle more power but the rating will be 1000 watts RMS. I won't cover burnt coils due to abuse since someone would literally have to TRY to tear one up with under 1500 watts on it.

I am seriously considering a pre-sale on these... what does everyone think?

Keeping in mind the delivery date will *NOT* be guaranteed, it could always take a few more weeks!

I think pre-sales are open to problems from the build house or shipping, or some other delay.

Indeed... maybe an intro sale would be better once they actually come in as I can't stand telling people that stuff is late.

True I would rather wait and be able to order once they are available. Atleast that is how I feel on most of my purchases, but I already have my subs.

I think , I think you need to put a rush on those subs because I need to do a demo car and that 9518G (D1) w/ carbon dust cap and extra stiff suspension , is starting to look real tempting on the showroom floor. All this talk v.3 ,x subs is like foreplay and may cause pre ejaculation. I may not be able to make it till the new subs come out. I am trying to be strong ,but that is a long time. :pornsmilie:

The new proto is being built... I'm ready to roll w/ it as soon as I can approve the design :)

These are progressing fantastically. I'm proud to be apart of this master plan. You are really taking this company to new heights :drink40:

got any new pics of the newer versions?

Clipping will fry the coil much faster than over powering.. and one doesn't have to "try" to tear it up for that... stupid is enough (or ignorant, but ignorance can be cured).

The latest version isn't done yet... but I will have pics when it is.

I consider improperly adjusted equipment "trying" or better "asking" to tear something up :)

The problem with clipping is that you make more power, it's not a separate problem per-se. I can get 2200 watts out of an SAZ-1500D when I crank the gains to full bore and give it as much RCA voltage as I have (clipping hard). If you have two woofers rated at 750 RMS hooked up to it, and they can really only handle 750 RMS, you will blow the crap out of them at full bore clipping on the SAZ-1500D.

Whereas, the X12, being rated at 1000 RMS... even a 2,000 watt amp at full bore clipping would have a difficult time damaging it (around 3kw of power full bore clipping if it acts like the 1500D). The coil on the production X12 will be 60mm long and 3" wide... it's pretty darn big. Add in the drilled gap, the vented pole, the ventilation around the coil and under the spider, and of course my extra little cooling feature (you'll just have to wait and see) and it'll be quite difficult to blow the coils even with an amp set up completely wrong.

Actually, most people would be very well served running an SAZ-1500D on a pair as they aren't incredibly inefficient and won't require to be "fully powered" to sound good. I can barely imagine a scenario where someone would be able to damage a pair of X12s on a 1500D. Even playing 20 Hz at full bore clipping under tuning in a ported box likely wouldn't do it... the sub has over 40mm of clearances and the suspension can handle enough movement until the BL has dropped substantially to where it can't tear the spiders.

I'm trying to make it so that even "stupid" won't be enough to tear one up unless you hook up a ridiculously big amp to a pair :)

i know this is still in the prototype phase...but

when are these babies coming?

Interesting looking motor....wonder what kind it is....

Interesting looking motor....wonder what kind it is....

It's a Sundown "X" motor -- it's not anything else.

If you are suggesting that it is the same as the Elevation SQX motor, as some others have, then I would suggest reviewing the rest of the thread where I covered that in great detail in post #78 -- it has a similar external appearance only.

Also... this thread contains only early prototype pictures, *major* changes have been made since -- it will be a completely different speaker for production as the early prototypes did not satisfy my goals for this line. I have even changed build houses since then as the one I was working with failed to meet my demands for QC.

---

platnum,

As covered before, it IS the same basket that Elevation uses for their SQX. It's openly available like the 12-spoke.

They were pushed back again, as mentioned in my above post... I changed build houses. I was unhappy with QC at this build house and they failed to meet my demands, therefore I took my design elsewhere -- since I was delayed so drastically I have made MANY changes to the design to make it an even better speaker. I'm hoping I can still have the 12" version out in 3-4 months.

no need to get mad.

Thats not mad, that is me making a statement about the issue of the basket being covered previously in the thread. I did not think that my post to you sounded angry.

Thread now closed... old information anyway.
