Hey everyone i am Ryan. You will here alot from me while i am building my new setup!

I have a 2000 Isuzu Hombre (same as an S10), std cab, 5speed, 2.2

I had twelve RE 8's in the truck before the teardown, and now i am upgrading: here is an old pic:

and for anyone interested it did 148 on the TL mic with a modified MTX 1501D amp.

My new setup will look something like this: with 10 ascendant 8's ported with 6 aero ports tuned to around 45hz or so for comps, and if i plug up 3 ports it will tune the box to around 32hz for daily driven

subbox2-1.png

and i will be putting in four 5 1/4's or 6" mids in each door, along with 4 tweets in each door. i have yet to decide on brands for those

any comments or suggestions on mids/tweets are WELCOME!!!!!!

oh and here is a pic of my truck:

i love installs with lots of small woofers :D

other than that, i'd go with 2 good 6.5's and 2 good tweeters.

do you want to try an active 2-way system in front ?

yea sorry i meant to put that.....

i already have a good active crossover, Coustic XM6.

but do you think two 6.5's and 2 tweets will be loud enough to be heard with 150+db bass setup that i am doing?

nice wheels, i hate when all you see on a vehicle is shiny wheels

THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!

yea i lucked up on my truck, i have yet to see another like it in person i guess they are kinda rare....

and with the wheels i am going for the road race look, low lean, wide spoke wheels..... i have some engine mods, and i am working on a turbo kit for it too!!!

anyone have any suggestions on mids/tweet brands?

Also if some of you guys are wondering, i will be using 1/2 mdf on the bottom and back of the box for alittle extra room.

as i figure it I need .5 cubes per sub, so say 5 cubes total plus sub displacement. so .07 per sub.

total 5.7 cubes, plus aeroport displacement

aeroports will be 18" long, so roughly .13 displacment for each 4" flared aero port.

total .78 cubes

plus the 5.7 would be 6.48 plus a little bit for the braces so roughly 6.5 cubes would do it

the box will be:

24" tall

12" wide bottom

9.25" wide top

54" long bottom

57" long top

should be 6.48 cubes at just 54" long for the total box, not adding the extra 3" of length at the top of the box that will be 57" long instead of 54" long like the bottom

Sounds like its going to be an awesome build man. You can easily get 2 sets up drivers and tweets to keep up with 150+db. but it depends on what your looking for in your speakers to give recomendations. SQ or just a set that can be as loud as the subs?

BTW, i saw the first pic and thought you had 12 subs in a box build into the headliner!!

how much are you looking to spend ?

are you interested only in getting them to keep up or getting a good front stage ?

really i am looking to just try and keep up with my bass.

I have talked to a couple of people about this and i have pretty much made my mind up that i am going to get 8 classic 5 1/4 Dayton mids, and 8 Audax silk dome tweets.

It's only going to cost me 250 or so for all 16 speakers, so i won't be out much. And if i want to upgrade later i can just by removing the cheap ones and installing new ones.

i knw those aren't the best brand in the world, but they will be better then most, and with me using a bunch of them they should keep up really well with my bass.

just in case anybody was wondering, Ryan is gay. :hay:

No joke.. when will you actually need a front stage with a 150db output?? I really hope your not driving around town listening to music at that level... (will it even play 150 on music or is that a burp/tone?)

keep us updated though!

my old system would do 145 or so on music with the re's. and that was with a sealed setup.

so this one being ported with more power and better subs, i hope to get alot more out of it.

but i am more interested in having a setup like Tommy Mckinnie's, like a bass race setup......

IMHO, you could deffinatly get away with 2 sets of speakers. To keep up and be LOUD you could get the RE XXX 6.5's. their 2ohm so powering them enough shouldnt be a problem. If you still decide to go with 8 speakers, the daytons will do fine.

But unless you want to enjoy some kanye while geting metered, 4 drivers will easily be enough.

well it's either 16 total 8 mids and 8 tweets, or 8 total 4 mids and 4 tweets then i would need 4 ohms per tweets and per mids to get 4 ohms at the amp.

so what good brand can i get for around 200 bucks for 4 mids and 4 tweets that will work well with 100 watts per speaker?

  • Author

well i have decided to do 2 mids and 2 tweets per door.

the mids i am looking at are these:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...tnumber=295-480

since they are 8ohm DVC i can get them to 2 ohms at the amp for max power.

now as far as tweets go, i still don't have a clue but they need to be 4 ohm, 6 ohm, or 8 ohms a piece, i would perfer 4 or 6 though so i can get some decent power to them as well...

anyone have any recommendations on Morel tweets, some where in the 20-30 dollar a piece range?

never mind on the morel's they are all 8ohm....
