I'm currently in the market for some new subs.

As of right now I am running 4 Kicker L7 10's

Power is from 2 Kicker KX1200.1's strapped making around 2.8k

Box is 6ft^3 sealed.

Ideally what I would like to do is drop down to a pair of 12's or an awsome single 15"

I'm looking for a great LSQ driver, I want to be able to pound out the bass, but still be able to enjoy the sublties of the music.

A friend of mine suggested looking into Fi, so here I am.

Current drivers I am looking at RE MX12, DD3512, DD9515 etc.

Vehicle - 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV

I am doing consistant 143-144dB

I'l like to get closer to the 150dB range

What do you guys suggest I do?

I was thinking the Fi.BL 12's, but would they be the best choice for me?

150dB really doesn't equal "LSQ", in the least...

Welcome to SSA. What is more important to you, output or clear sound?

  • Author

Wow, bad type-o on my part.

I usually catch that stuff.

Anyhow I've fixed it.

I'd have to say I want more Quality over Quantity.

But I would like to be louder thatn I am at the moment.

With the right drivers I really dont see that being an issue.

I plan on going ported this time around.

Maybe a dual tuned box or something like that.

And 150dB is no picnic in any trunked vehicle, even for a pure, one-note SPL machine.

I really want to be louder than i am now.

ok lets say 145dB+

my car's pretty loud now for a daily driver, but i want it louder

I'd be happy with a noticable increase in volume, i just need more.

aint gonna get much sound quality out of a ported box with bl's, go and search around ssa and fi

I'm looking for suggestions,

What do you all suggest I do?

I want to be louder than I am now, but I would still like to retain some of the SQ I have

Sounds like a complete misuse of the word SQ. What you want is SPL (obvious from your posts) so ask for it. If you want 150dB, no problem but the next question is budget.

edit: and space, how much can you give up?

  • Author

Amps are covered.

Space I'm willing to give up, 6-8 ft^3 net. (so after ports and displacement etc)

Budget lets say it tops out around the $2K mark.

It is a daily driver though so please keep that in mind, I can't go with a full SPL driver.

are those kickers strappable?

you're set on amps but hows your electrical? stock battery and alt?

i'd say grab another pair of the 1200s and get two BTL 12s. but you better have the electrical to back it up

  • Author

Yes the Kicker 1200's are strappable

I think I might be a little hard pressed to find another pair of the 1200's

Electrical is fantastic

2 Optima Yellow Tops

Custom 300amp alt

2 runs of 1/0 front to rear

Aren't the BTL's strictly SPL driver's though?

I'm driving the car everyday I would like something a little musical.

BTL's with the 3rd magnet, long coil and daily option sound pretty darn good. Great for daily beating.

Honestly from what you've described you don't care about how musical the sub is. I think you have completely the wrong idea about SQ. For the most part SQ has jack to do with your sub anyway.

I have a focal K2P front stage

I do know about SQ

I just want it to be loud and clean

How is this really such a tough thing to get?

Edited by SeductiveSounds

  • 2 weeks later...

Well if you have a good front stage, which it seems you do and also a good electrical, why not get a couple BTL 12's and have at it. Probably will require a big enclosure, but if you have the room, then I suggest those. Otherwise maybe some AQ's? I don't know, there is a chit ton of speakers you could go with that will sound good and be loud. 150's in a trunk isn't as easy as some people think it is.
