i d like to see what that sub will do on some music.like for daily or bassrace!!jacob, what do u think it'll handle power wise on music?

Alot. We play music on it with the four 1500s for short periods.

---

Dropped it in a vehicle @ the show this past weekend in Roseboro, NC (Competition Only) and it gained vs. an RE MT -- the box was WAY too big for the beast but it was still louder by a fair bit on the same power, and continued to get louder on double the power where the MT dropped off due to power compression.

i may have missed it, but what coil is in it? the 8 layer or 12 layer?

the 12 layer

Yep - the monster has the 12-layer now. In my vehicle on the same amps it was 0.4 dB louder than the 8-layer. I did not adjust ANY settings, just re-built and dropped it in.

Keep in mind the total DCR of the 8-layer is 1.76 ohms (series) vs 2.28 ohms (series) for the 12-layer coil... so that is on LESS power too. That is a 30% increase in DCR, so you can assume roughly 30% less power - in reality probably less power than that as the 12-layer also has more inductance.

So... in short, the 12-layer is much louder.

time for 4 300d"s :)

I'll be testing that whenever I can - my Jeep needs alot of work to fit the amps and to power them.

now just imagine 2 of those babys with 4 of the new 4kw amps in a street c application *dream*

still no estimated msrp??

Not yet. We are still testing to see just how much we have to do to keep it together. If it takes more time and supplies to build that will effect the price.

ohh ok, do u know anyone with a DD 9515 that would be a nice v.s. test since it ill be like spl sub vs spl sub

imho it will be a no contest...i dont know any dd9500 subs that can take 6k daily...and on top of that...theres still certian things he can do to the sub to make it louder ...like develope another coolin option ..taking some of the coil out of the gap...making the moving mass lighter ...and a bunch of other stuff..

Plus the stock DD cone will break with any kind of power. ;)

I wouldn't be so quick to down DD . they have a pretty good track record of breaking records ;) and a 12layer coil , extra stiff cone , extra spiders ,and all the upgrades aren't exactly a stock nightshade. So with that said it is not exactly an apples for apples against a stock dd9515, wouldn't you say. Now take a upgraded 9515 and then It would be a good run against each other. With that said The big boy sub or nightstalkers or what ever they may be called in the end are a loud a$$ sub and can handle tons of power and will make a great sub for all levels of competition (especially for you guys in MECA).

I'll see about getting some other woofers to test against - of course without building multiple enclosures optimized for each driver that is a tough test to call fair.

My SPL drivers (Nightshade and this guy) tend to like a bit smaller boxes than many other SPL woofers.

Lower Qts?

Nah, the Qts isn't very low on them :)

Oh yah... this is one of two "monster" motor designs we are testing. The other motor isn't ready yet - I am testing two different approaches to the beast to see which one works better :)

Slid box to drivers side and move both seats forward (seat backs upright) - did 150.7 with the box just moved over to drivers side.

excellent result, I would like to test with my two DD z1a ... about 14kw :D

Indeed - we will move towards higher power testing in the future - I want to use four SAZ-3000Ds on it for that testing :)

My test vehicle has only two Powermaster D3100s and factory alternator so my usable power is under 5000-watts I'd guess. I have a 225 amp alternator on the way in a few weeks and at least one more Powermaster D3100 to add.

we hope the ultimate soon, so I would give it a try!

I didn't say it wasn't a good sub.

They just have EXTRA weak cones, to make people buy there composite cones.

Plus, DD choose not to "upgrade" there own stuff.

Jake likes to each person to have a sub to fit there install than one, you hafta fit your install around.

well enough about DD and sundown comparisons. What is going on with the Big Boy Monster. Maybe NightMonster should be the name????
