Ha! Laptop: 0 Ryan: 1

My files are transferring as I type, figured out how to reassign permissions so I could access them. :)

The one with the virus ?

Correct. Transferring files to my computer at work so I can reinstall windows and be done with it.

Delete all .dll, .exe, .bat files. Anything that is "runnable" or "executable".

I got infected once with win32 Vitro, reinstalled windows (luckily I saved everything) and forgot to delete some .exe's. Installed a program for school over the old infected install and got infected again because of the executable. Which forced another reinstall.

Format then reinstall.:drink40:

yes double that! ALWAYS format if you have something nasty. ALWAYS format.

:madsign: New computer parts are supposed to be here today and wouldn't you know it my sata drive might be gone. Just my luck. It isn't being recognized by the sata controller card i have in the current comp, hopefully it is the card and not the drive. Teach me to take the hard drive cage out to blow off dust.

I haven't had any viruses/anything nasty in yeaaaars now, what are you guys downloading? :ehh:

Try this, make a new account (WITHOUT ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS) to surf your porn/exploitable flash games/torrents. Once you have everything back up again, make an image of the install with Norton Ghost or something similar, so you always have a quick restore point. If I were to pick up a virus, I can have everything fixed within 15-20 mins.

Edit: Oh, and update your Adobe products (flash/air/etc), there's a huge worm that steals saved ftp passwords causing hell at the moment. (Gumblar)

Works if you can afford to loose all the data :peepwall:

Hence my swaping files to my work computer, then to my external HDD, then they are going back to the laptop if all goes well.

yup yup

files, media, I'll move those, but any program is eradicated. My roomate's mom caught something so nasty that when he plugged the HD into another machine to retrieve the data it corruped the second machines HD right away. He had to bring it home and use the 64 bit systems at the house to extract and then format the drives. What ever the file was was both hidden and real real nasty. Had to unplug the network ASAP because as it blocked the use from doing anything it sure as sh!t was trying to send/receive some kind of info from somewhere.

Adobe acrobat pro 9 keygen.

Ah, likely a torrent. I've downloaded tons of them without any problems, but I usually get them from btjunkie.org. Read the comments, people usually post if they got a virus in them. Occasionally, I'll grab something from someone's webhosting account before sending them a pirated software notice, but run those under the non-privileged user.

Yes. Obviously you bothered to google that, Dundas isn't really on a map. lol

Wild guess, actually. I know of only two universities in Minnesota; UM and Carleton, and I only know of Carleton because its where Oregon Trail was developed back in the '70s, :lol2:

That's funny had no idea that stemmed from Carleton

Sherlock Holmes is pretty darn good, and heard nothing but good things about Avatar.

Just watched the trailer for Sherlock Holmes and did look good, might have to see it

both are great movies.

Avatar may be the best movie I have ever seen though. In almost every technical aspect it trumps anything made before it.

I would recomend I max 3D

:thanx:

You can find reasons not to like it. If you don't like Sci Fi or perhaps fantasy it may not be your favorite flavor. It's a bit like hating star wars though.

It's amazingly well made. It follows the hero cycle quite well. One guy mentioned that he liked it more than all 6 star wars combined. even at ~3 hours I could have dealt with another 3-4 hours of similar fun easily.
