Does the ejector still look ok? How is the lube situation?

Also, for more AR specific questions go to www.thegunvault.org, some pretty intelligent AR/3-gun folks and not a whole lot of useless bull shit.

The ejector looks ok. A bit of scuffing on the black from the guy helping out needing to use a screw driver to push back a round. What happened is after the first round wasn't fully ejected the carrier bold didn't seat right even with an assist. I guess my roomate pulled the carrier back then and it tried to grab another round and feed it. It was half out of the clip and wouldn't let the clip drop then. I felt for damage or burrs, and there isn't anything not even where the black was rubbed off. That was all external anyway.

As for lube I keep her wetter than margaret in monsoon season. There is a spot inside the bolt carrier they said to lube lightly so I did just that, but the rest is well lubed. Not dripping but verry well covered. It feeds the rounds pretty well in but once and a while hangs up on a shell on it's way out.

It's the damndest thing.

I wouldn't worry to much about steel cased ammo, the cheap steel in those cases can't be to much harder than the brass, and I have doubts that some cheap steel is really going to eat up hardened steel in the AR.

Then again that is just my thoughts, I don't run ARs.

That was my thoughts too, but I'm gonna just go with the fables on it anyway. Like wearing a lucky sock on test day. I'll keep the steel in case of zombie invasion.

Congrats on a job well done!!! Gotta love the feeling.

thanks :)

A'ced the economics presentation :)

Nice work. What topic?

thanks, it was about competitive markets and their characteristics etc. etc.

I was going to measure to make sure after this run of steel but the only think I thought might hold some trust is that with brass the metal will take the pressure expand and then contract closer to it's original casing shap and that the steel is less "springy" and stays slightly larger and causes more friction and thus faster wear or more jams etc.

I wanted to measure, but I forgot to even look for the one spent round to test against a brass round later. I doubt the hardened steel in there would even be phased by those cases for the most part myself.

Ryan2, how familiar are you with AR10's? I'm having some ongoing issues with my DPMS.

I did comit a big no no and purchased some steel rounds and it caused an epic jam on the first round. :(

Most of what I ready said AR's did ok with steel but never again. Only brass from now on. I got a "if you love your gun" talk from the lane officer about buying cheep brass and it's 300 times better than the best steel. I'm just going to see if I can find some FMJBT by the box and make a big purchace.

Anyway, I'm getting a weird jam while ejecting cartridges and when the new round slided in it's not getting seated properly. Could this just be a function of it still getting worn in?

It's only had about 100 rounds of top quality brass (hunting type rounds) through it untill the steel I used on friday. I scrubbed the bore every round like it said, untill it said to do every 5 rounds after the first 25.

Not the best with AR's but I play with alot of M16A2's and M4's......................Try completly removing the bolt and dissasembeling it..........Clean the upper reciever and the area of the barrell and bolt meet. They may have a massive carbon build there form the steel. Good luck.

this was the first steel round I ever shot in it. Never loaded anything but expencive brass up untill now. Do you know any guys who run steel on m4's? My gun is basically the same just no auto function and fires .308 not .223.

I love and lube my AR good and plenty.

She's a lot more persnikity than the roomates AK47, but that was to be expected. It also shoots a bigger round.

LOL I use 30 round clips LOL...................

We have 6 30 round clips for the AK. I want one for the AR10. Maybe someone makes DPMS freindly 30 round clips......... or 100 round drums..

:)

We got the wife to shoot the shotgun on friday too. Buck and 1 slug. The damn shotgun slide is stickey as all hell too. Could barely cycle rounds in.

But the wife loves to shoot. She likes the AK the most. And my 1911. I'm the only one who even enjoys shooting the little Xd 9mm.

:P

I told her I would get her a .50 BMG rifle and a desert eagle for valentines day.

funny!

Not as good as the star wars ones though... oh emm jee
