Great day, I am a scrooge though so we don't do gifts. I did get a framed picture of the little guy though

I told the wifey no presents this year... I have burned through SO much money this year in bills etc. I don't have anything to show for it at the moment as most of it is catching up. I know exactly how you feel about the present thing. We have all but stopped getting each other gifts and when we do it's small small things that we were going to buy anyway. We just wrap it up for the other person..... sometimes not even that.

It's really tough on the W though.

The W didn't get a present from the dog or cat like she usually does for mothers day. Not even something small... no aniversary anything either! She's being a good sport. She goes on vacation with the ladies in her family this weekend and I'm going to buy a smallish freezer that she has been harping on and on about and then if I can swing it, maybe some summer tires for my old rims to put on her POS car. Only if the rims fit. We planned on buying a new car this year but I'm so turned off at the idea about spending more it's not gonna happen for a few years unless my truck is unfixable.

Then I hope to finally have some time here to go on a vacation. We still haven't had a honeymoon!

My dad basically uses the computer for surfing the net and email, so he doesn't need spectacular video cards and all that, but I want him to have something that will last a while. (Our current PC is at least 6 years old)

Around 11 years ago is when I first didn't get a rebate that caused me to buy what I was buying. 3 purchases in a row it happened on, I managed to get 2 of them straightened out but not the third. And yes, they all happened in a short enough time I had no idea I shouldn't be placing the successive orders.

from the sounds of it something running a 64 bit OS with a good chunk of RAM and you should be set. I garuntee my quad core would be more than enough for his needs, but since the I cores are out you could get an i3 or i5. Sean just slapped together something pretty good for real real cheep recently I know. I think he used an i3.

Does the size of the case matter? You could just use the old case and same some $ though. What do you think the budget is?

Size of the case doesn't matter. For budget I'll say $600. I will also have to buy an OS. Should I go Win7 or stick with XP?

What do I need to look for in a case? I saw this combo on new egg that looks pretty good.
