Unless you're gaming and backed up someother way at all times.

YMMV but they are just slightly more reliable than thumb drives, and my jump drives get the flu once a year and dies.

The SSD in my laptop screams....or at least my laptop screams and it has an SSD. Off to full boot in 15-20sec.

I should have worded it better. They are fast. Blindingly fast. In games or apps for testing and on start up they can definately make the machine work WAY faster.

They are just more prone to data loss. That won't matter if you back it up constantly though. They are also lighter on average I think.

Sean, any recommendations on an external hdd ? Not ssd.

Can I help answer buy asking a dumb question? Why do you want external and what will you store?

So um yeah, liking Windows 7 on the new box at work. Not sure yet if I would pick it over linux for personal, but still pretty nice.
