I need to look into deadening the bird. Keep some road noise out.

BTW Anyone have any opinions on wrapping REALLY hot headers? I am wrapping mine as they throw a shit ton of heat.

J

That car will be a MESS to sound deaden. Just wasn't built well enough to make much headway. In my Silverado it quickly became apparent that to improve anything I'd have to do something with all the window and door seals as they were terrible and its worlds better than your bird.

I figured it would be. I have something like 60 sq ft of Second Skin (I know the feelings towards that brand's history here) just sitting on the shelf. My thoughts were if I layered the floor and door panels (inside part of the outer sheet metal) that I MIGHT be able to get some of that road noise to go away. I am not expecting that distinctive THUD when the doors shut, but perhaps a little bit better road noise blocking.

J

Always start with the problem. What do you mean by road noise/

Ok music is down, and I just put the transmission in N as I approach the stop signs. I can hear the little pebbles pop up and hit the undercarriage, hear the rumble of the car passing over the mediocre, smooth asphalt. Its that rumble I want gone. I can hear it even more with the T-tops on and windows up. I guess what I am after is just wanting to make it so I am hearing the motor and/or the music more than the ambient noise around me.

J

The pebbles you can be rid of, the rumble requires new exhaust.

Its not the exhaust rumble that bothers me (sorry if I have that impression). I actually love the sound I get when I hit the gas. Its just that 'going over meh roads in a steel car' sound.

Ok my brother is still using my P75 and my P150 is blowing fuses, I remember you guys were talking about Aura amps at PE and I was looking.

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=269-189

Would this amp put out what it says it will? For the price it seems like a great deal. What do you guys with Aura experience think?

I remember hearing something about Aura being bought out a while back, and the products since then aren't up to par as they use to be.

I'm not saying this amp is bad, but hopefully someone else can chime in on this.

I know I almost bought one a couple months back, they sure look nice. :)

Yea I remember the guys talking about it and PE is selling these pretty cheap per watt if they do rated. I shall wait and see what others have to say.

I might pick one up... my SAX-125.2 is acting wacky..

It'll randomly shut off and on.. very odd high pitch coming from the amp it's self.

I am just worried about possibility of rust lol

J

I wouldn't worry about it to much. I would be amazed if they rusted through in the lifetime of the car.

Agreed but it seems like every site I looked at today has been swearing that header wrap is the worst thing since Cancer.

J

I used it on my LTs on my Cobra and never had any issues. They're still on there too, although they were SS so that helps. I wouldn't worry about rust.

I am sorry for the lack of knowledge but what do you mean by LTs and SS?

Is your SAX a refurb or new?

Are you going to send it to db-r for repair?

I had two of the four channels and they were slightlly under-rated. I would expect that one to be north of 500 bridged. I really liked those amps, but they were quite large for their power output. I like big heat sinks though and actually prefer them to small amps.

So for 99.99 it is well worth it then and it should make those JLs happy?

Ryan, didn't know you had a Cobra.

My dad and brother built this F5; I was too young then to join.

That is freaking beautiful! Any more photos?

I didn't have an ACTUAL Cobra nor an original, rather a Mustang Cobra. What is sad is, I have no photos of the car.

Maybe I have a 4 channel laying around that i may use instead I dunno.

I got to see an ORIGINAL driving cobra at a car show a few years ago, it was a sight to behold. Quarter million dollar car that he drove to shows, he said every car that placed higher than his at shows got pushed with white gloves.

My parent's neighbor has one. He starts it up every couple months, drives it out of the barn, then drives it right back in. He also builds engines for a GT40 kit car builder.

I am not 110% sure of the material mine are made of. I thought about having them jet-hot treated.

Isn't there a thermal goop you can put on it to reduce heat? Something like the useless "deadener" shit that some companies sell? But it's for your engine.. Idk lol

What's the best glue to recone a sub? Any brand in particular? I know CA glue... :ughdunno:

Is it weird that I find sanding flares relaxing ?

On my muscle relaxers I found that everything was relaxing.
