It's logical that bending the port takes up too much valuable space where they want a huge port to be as efficient as possible.

So it goes against SPL design? He's going to run an IA Flatlyne, so I doubt SPL is his goal. Although his tuning was a bit high for something to get real low..

I believe he is alluding to the air flow characteristics.

I can't speak for true exact measurements but everytime I think "OMG this is amazing design, it will win everything it's the bestorz!!11!!" I remind myself, there are many people who do what every I am doing in this hoby for a living. They have million dollar if not billion dollar budgets, for R & D. I know I'm not the first person to come up with it either. So if someone in a profetional position doesn't use that method, it's probably not due to cost when it comes to competition levels.

If the that weird tornado thing to pun under your Carberator worked at the price it is, it would be in every drag vehicle period. If you can make a 100MPG engine that runs on hopes and dreams, ford, or chrysteler would have done it.(GM wouldn't but that's not fair, it's like a guy from the special olympics trying to compete in the real thing)

Back to audio, when i see some crazy fancy sub box design... I always think, well crap, no one I know who has won anything ever did something like that, and they are the best. I'm sure they looked at it, and scratched it off the list.

The KISS method works everytime. It's just a matter of fine tuning, and tweeking. More exacting tolerances Less error room or wiggle room.

I really need to finish my house projects, clean up the rental, and then really sink my teeth into my buisness and scooping up another property.

I get so mad that I have to sleep and eat right now. Even doing the things I love piss me off because I could be doing something that could better my position right now.

And forget alllll about wedding crap and trying to loose a few lbs. I have NEVER been this busy in my whole life, and it's starting to manifest in my health. I have some cold/throat crap in my lungs all wheesy and coughing. I would take a vacation, but I need to save it so I can have time off for the wedding. And I'm not even going on a honey moon! I disagree with you a bit. If there weren't people who tried new stuff there wouldn't pe progress and inovation. At least that is my view on the subject.

If it was a truely 'new' design I would say that inovation would be a part of it, but we will never do anything truely 'new' with MDF and a driver that someone else hasn't. Just bigger, stronger, etc and again, every aplication is different. That was the catalyst of my point. When working on a design it is best to start with something simple, then modify. Making something that requires a large up front investment(money or time) and then adjusting that will be a larger headache. The more complex the original design, more variables and much more diffocult to refine and measure.

think engines 50 years ago. If your working on a v8, and you expect to have better results by extending the length of the exhaust, I am all for trying it. Someone else probably has though. I would describe that as refinement a given variable. Not that you can't refine a heck of allot. Look at v8's and the power they produced then compaired to now. Even with DI engines it's still the same basic paramaters.

If I went all crazy and on an espresso bender invented the wankle engine, I would call that an inovation or progress. It's a paradigm shift. I am even stretching that really IMO because it's still combustion. It's unknown teritory though, and will requre refinement before it can be truly usefull.

Agreed that most of the things we think of have been probably tried out by other people.

I was thinking a couple months ago about changing the ferrite from a motor to some neo rings / cubes. 2 weeks after the idea hits me I find a subwoofer with that exact idea implemented.

Just got back from a bike ride with the roomie. Its probably been a year since I've ridden, and first time I've wore shorts and tennis shoes in god knows how long. We did ~8.5mi on trails around here, twas fun.
