I matched my best score with the "Monster" design.

This confirms my theory that the Monster design *NEEDED* a ton of power to get loud - which confirms my decision to move with the NS-X first and continue work on the Monster design to increase efficiency AND power handling.

I tried turning up the head unit more but did not gain any more SPL - just got the sub hotter!

love those nightshades!

Jon, have you got yours metered yet?

One more thought to add... the Monster would take this sort of power continuously and the stock Nightshade for burps only - so it is not quite apples to apples!

As I said, ugly box is ugly.

Nice number!!

no i have not metered yet.. its looks as if im gonna have to buy a tl to do so!

It seems as though we're on the same page with the situation before us. :D

thanks for doing the testing

was realy interested to see the numbers

because of the "not igh enough" efficiency of the monster, did you try using a softer spider pack on it?

i don't know if someone else expirienced this, but i am louder with a softer spider than with a harder one

We only tested it with five spiders since it was intended to play music with 6000 watts on hand :)

I am sure with the "lower" power of "only" 6kw it would have been louder with softer spiders for burps.

Show on Saturday:

152.1 @ the windshield

154.4 @ the passenger kick with drivers door open

169.5 inside my port

sorry if it may was already said in another thread

what are the specs of that box?

how much port area?

jake, could you may do me a favor and test, how high the score would be with just one 3000D on the nightshade?

  • Author

12" Nightshade is 4 dB down in this box vs. 15" Nightshade - I think the port area is just WAY too much for a 12" woofer, practically equal to cone area :)

that would be 147db for a 12

that's still VERY impressing

148.2 actually :)

151.9 is my best @ the shop and 152.1 at a show with the single 15" Nightshade.

that's just crazy, some ppl are tryin months and aren't even comin close to those number (*cough* me *cough*)

youre crazy man...nice result
