Posted July 1, 200916 yr Alrighty down to business! Take note of my 2 pics below. The first pic shows a piece of mdf with 4 12volt fans in it to cool the amp which is under it. Notice the second pic where the amp is underneath the fans. I am doing this so i don't lost 100% of my trunk as i will be going back to school in september. I guess this is a makeshift amp rack! My question is should my fans be blowing onto the amp? Or sucking the hot air off of the amp? I assume blowing (cooling ) the amp but i thought i would double check! and also should i be using 4 or will 2 work just as well! the fans i am using are:http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=259-150amd yes i know my pics blow! thank for your timeKenneth
July 1, 200916 yr Ideally you'd want to position your fans on the end of the amp rack, not directly over them. That way you can have the fans at one end blowing air over the amps while the fans on the other end suck it away. Blowing over the cooling fins works better than blowing directly down on top of them.

Change the fans to on the sides instead. 2 blowing on one side and 2 sucking on the other should be sufficient.
July 1, 200916 yr Author i never thought about it that way! you guys are so smart! i think i will have the air flow coming from the right (battery side) and blowing over the amp from right to left that way the hot air goes into the empty space! you ppl are so smart! thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!! Kennethso something like this then! Edited July 1, 200916 yr by CrazyKenKid
July 1, 200916 yr Author one more question with the amp being cooler would i benifit anything? like extra wattage or the abilty to play louder for longer? or just that my amp will be nice and cool!
July 2, 200916 yr cooler amp will let it play longer and prolong its lifebut you're in canada and dont see why its an issue really. im in 113`F heat and i dont have fans on mine, i would be the one to benefit from this in my extreme climate
