So I picked up a pair of Hertz Hsk165's and need some help with choosing an amp.

Amp will be ran off of a kenwood 8120.

I have about 400 to spend... but I wouldn't mind spending less.

Im thinking about the following:

sundown sax-125.2

$240

(even a 50.4 bridged thoughts???)

audio systems twister 300

$300

jl 300/2

$350

steg K2|02

$450

arc ks300.2

$399

what are your thoughts on the ones posted? any recommendations?

here are the links.

the sundown 125.2 over the 50.4, two-channel amps especially compared to bridging a 4-channel will have better channel separation and slightly better signal to noise. so basically the 125.2 will be cleaner. the JL is a good amp, but In my experience I have yet to see one of their amps live up to what they say they can do. I have also seen several blow capacitors for no apparent reason (grant you I didn't install those). the other amp I would recommend along with the 125.2 would be the arc audio amp. arc audio makes an incredible product. I think on those speakers you won't hear the 160 dollar difference between the two amps.

just an FYI though, I run Hybrid Audio Legatia mids/highs off of sundown 100.4d's and the sound is quite astounding.

thanks for your response!

just thought id add that i can get an arc ks300.4 for $325 shipped thats only a few months old.

and its only 90wrms per channel but 350x2 @ 4ohms bridged.

are the sundown sax line under rated like their sae/saz line?

They are, and think a 100.4 would make you very happy. :)

Nice truck too

would a 100.4 be beneficial seeing as the comps are 125rms rating and im only running 1 set of comps passively?

and thanks, but the truck is a photoshop... it just lowered on stock 16s.:(

You could run them actively.

And if not, if you get more speakers later, like rear speakers or something, you could use the other channels.

i dont even want to mess with going active. lol

this will be my first install so i just want to get the basics down.

I vote 125.2. I have one and its awesome. Right now I have it running a Z15. lol

I have not had any experience with the Steg amps, but the Sundown and JL's are excellent options.

would i be able to hear the $210 difference though?

and i also dont have have a windows laptop to use that feature.

i missed out on a sax125.2 for $120 by 8min too!

MB Quart DSC4125 $180 sonicelctronix

ummmm NO, OP please don't even look at this amp, it is OK, but wal-mart compared to arc and sundown, steg...

now it seems you need to think about the future....the arc or the 100.4d would be plenty for those speakers even unbridged. and either could run them actively which actually can be safer for your tweeter since passives are generally only 12db/slope, and both those amps have 24 db/slope which will help keep tweeters from playing too low. most ppl blow tweets on passive setups, not the woofer.

if you don't plan on running any more mids/highs in future then go with the 125.2 no questions asked. if you plan on running others in the future then get the arc or the sundown, both are amazing amplifiers, arc is and has been quite proven in SQ competition. and any arc or sundown amp will push more than rated power even after normal voltage drop.

as soon as i saw "sonicelctronix" i knew it was a no.

i think its between the sax 125.2 or 100.4... only reason im considering a 100.4 is to possibly grow down the road.

and im also most likely going with a 1500d or 2000d for a sub amp too match.

Ive got one for sale, a local guy offered 275 for it but can't pay til next month. He turned down my offer to hold it for him so if you're interested, PM me.

would i be able to hear the $210 difference though?

No.

x2, but your pocket will fill the difference thats all.

The SAX-100.4 is a very flexible amplifier. Great crossover options, variable subsonic filter and the rated 100 watts per channel is a conservative rating. You could run this amp on front passive comps and run a 4 ohm mono sub bridged. There are a lot options available on the Sundown.

If you're on a budget(like me!!!) The Sundown 50.4 is a great deal. It was $200 shipped to all 48.

I run it bridged to my comp set (focal 165KP) ; I think the speakers really came alive with this amp.

So much power to play with : 2 x 160 clean watts at 4 Ohms.

I like it a lot.

The 125.2 is maybe a better choice? I don't know.

I needed my 2 rca's'to run my speakers on the 50.4

You just need one set of rca on the 125.2.

It's up to you.
