Caps are designed to stabilize an already beefy electrical. If you have NO drop, then a cap can be used to keep the voltage at the same point without dips and rises by a few 1/10th's. But if you have voltage drop, then a cap is useless.

Depends on the ESR of the cap(s). 95% on the market are not within range.

i know i wanna hear this too. i pretty much knew caps were pointless but i wanted to be for sure. thanks for reassuring. so the guy who is gonna help me build my system said i should do a cap should i just tell him i rather do another battery? its either gonna be 4 12s 2 15s or 1 18 probably around 2400 to 3000 watts just all depends on what i get really.

The rockford t15kw uses a lot of caps, they also have a article in Car Audio Mag explaining how the caps work for them. like i said do your homework, and stop beliving hear say. Car sound mag did a review on a Alumapro cap 5 aka The Cap with nothing but good reviews, Here we have three articles showing that caps work, but i've found no articles proving that they don't. First off, most of the caps on the market are BS. It worked for Wayne because he knows his shit, and how to implement it.

The magazines print good reviews because they are paid. Plain and simple.

Nobody is saying they don't work. The problem is, they are marketed as a band-aid, a cure to low voltage problems. This simply is not the case. If your electrical is suspect, the cap(s) will only hinder it more.

quick answer-

A cap will discharge EVERYTHING in it's bank when a rush of current is requested...

A battery will compensate for the current requested when the alternator can't or the regulator doesn't react fast enough.

If you could.. try and imagine your battery going completely dead then back to recharging every other few seconds?!?! You can't imagine that at all..

So, you got your alt, a big battery bank and a big ass cap-

The cap will ALWAYS be getting drained and recharged all the time...

What's recharging it? The alternator... When it's doing that, it's providing less power to the audio system which results in more voltage drop because the battery(ies) must compensate more...

Now, when the batts are being used more... every split second when when there is no demand for current, the alt must charge the batts back up too!!!

Keep playin music like that... your voltage will continue to drop and drop....

That's why caps are BAD!

They were even tested in a comp setup for power draw... IF a cap can disperse current quicker.. it should provide the amp with more power...

A 600w amp was tested.. using a cap suited for the amp, the amp only outputted an additional 3w! 3 WATTS!

Now from my experience, caps are a good "buffer" for electrical systems that don't have alot of current passing through, like SQ systems

and Tirefryr and SO RIGHT. capacitors are marketed to "stop your lights from dimming" and that is not true cap will ADD stress to the system
