Posted November 25, 200915 yr trying to figure out which setup would be better.either 4 Planet Audio TQ150DVC 15" dual 4-ohm TORQ subwoofers on an Audioque 2200D in a sealed box with 2 cu ft per sub.or 1 MA Audio MA1800XL 18" dual 4-Ohm subwoofer on an Audioque 2200D in a round port box tuned to 32hz with 5 cu ft for the sub.setup would be in the trunk of a 2nd gen Altima.sound i'm looking for is really loud deep bass, the kind that vibrates the air in your lungs (or as close to that as i can get ).electrical upgrades will be done (big 3, 0 ga, etc).i hope this is enough information for you all to help. thanks.

In that trunk the most you may get in there is 1-15" comfortably or 2-12"s, go measure your trunk for the max dimensions (height x width x length) for enclosure minus room for batteries and amps.
November 25, 200915 yr I think you need to reevaluate your plan to get what you want. You are comparing sealed boxes to ported boxes. If you know what you are looking for, you should at least be deciding between two similar things, right?
November 25, 200915 yr What is your budget, the biggest box you can fit, and what equipment do you already ahve?
November 26, 200915 yr Author well i have already had 4 12's in the trunk with some room to spare. the max size for the box would be 36x36x16. as far as comparing sealed and ported, i didn't know if the difference between sealed and ported would compensate for the difference between 4 woofers and 1 woofer (if that makes any sense). i would like to stay under 700 for the subs and amp, i recently moved my system into my other vehicle so i am starting fresh.
November 26, 200915 yr You barely have space for 2 15's, but considering your budget that makes the most sense anyways. I'd personally buy a used amp if that's all you have to spend.
November 26, 200915 yr Am I missing something or is he saying that he has room for a 10ft3 gross sealed enclosure in the trunk? Are you kidding?
November 26, 200915 yr You still need to list some, just trying to fit as many subwoofers as you can is not going to cut it. Basically you need to decide if you want to go ported or sealed and dont choose sealed because you can have more subs (doesnt mean jack shit). If you want to go ported then get one 15" or two 15"(if you want to give up all your trunk space). I would either go with 2-12"s ported or 1-15" ported so you can have room for amps, air flow to get around subs (unless you face everything forward and seal the trunk off from the cabin) and a secondary battery if need be.
November 26, 200915 yr Just because that is how big your trunk is doesnt mean that is how much space you have available for an enclosure. You still have to make room for amps, batteries, air flow around the box so it wont take up the entire trunk, air flow so your amps can breathe and wont overheat.
November 26, 200915 yr that box is not 10 cu ft and i do have room for the box. Then what is 36Wx36Hx16D? How much of a gross figure does it equate to? I told you I must be missing something.
November 26, 200915 yr Author ok, all that makes sense, thank you. the setup i had before was 4 12's, 2 facing the seats and 2 facing the rear with all the amps and what not mounted on a board on top of the enclosure. i realize now that it was not the best setup and it was a little cramped, but even with 4 12's in a sealed box, i wanted it much louder. maybe you guys could steer me towards a couple brands in my price range and needs.
November 26, 200915 yr Author sorry, blonde moment, i thought you were talking about the box that i was looking at for the 15's setup and then i realized you all don't know what that is. it is a prebuilt box, but i don;t like that idea anymore anyways.

All these options ported will blow your last setup out of the water.
November 26, 200915 yr What subs do you have already?"4 12's" ? There is not enough informations to see what can be louder.I don't see 4 15" in an altima trunk : try just one good 15" in a good custom box and one good amp.
November 27, 200915 yr Author well i have actually come to realizations about my system after talking to a buddy of mine and i think i know what i want now. i am willing to spend the dough to make it happen. this way i won't have to worry about going through a bunch more stuff before i get to where i want.i was thinking of getting 2 12" Fi BTL's with an Audioque 2200D for each subwoofer. now i have seen poeple running the Audioque 3500D on the 12" BTL, but didn't know if that was for daily driving or not, cause this will be, so i was wondering if the 2200 would be enough. also curious about what the best enclosure would be for this setup.
November 27, 200915 yr "Enough" is pretty relative. That will be loud, but you are going to need to spend some serious money on your electrical to make it work. Overkill might be another description of it if you ask me.
November 27, 200915 yr Admin Heck one BTL with a well built enclosure, with a QUALITY amplifier, will be much more output then most people understand or need. Few on the market come close honestly. Why not go for a single larger cone size BTL and use the money saved from buying just one driver on a nicer amplifier.
November 27, 200915 yr what would you consider a nicer amplifier for one btl?Anything that does rated power at the ohm load you need and is good quality, I would say from 2000-3000rms at the most.
November 27, 200915 yr Author that's why i was looking at the audioque 2200, i thought they were good amps.
November 27, 200915 yr If it is in your budget then get it, they are good budget amps and will get the job done, what is your budget that you want to spend on sub(s) and amp?
