I would like some input on 5 channel amps from -

Polk Audio PA1100.5

PowerBass ASA 1100.5x

Infinity KAPPA FIVE

Kicker 08ZX700.5

Hifonics ZXi 8010

US AMPS AX 5600

Budget $300.00 to $400.00

My Alpine PDX-5 is clean sounding, just lacking in the thump dept.

I sold my old Alpine F353 as it was getting old and I wanted more thump.

My system is Alpine 9813 HU, Alpine PDX-5 amp, Polk DB 6.75 components,Polk DB coaxails 4x6 rears, 2-10" Polk MOMO subs @ 2ohm, in a down firing box in a 98 GMC ext cab truck.

120 amp alternator, large conventional battery, 1frad cap, 8 ga power wire.

switch up to 4 gauge at least and then get rid of that cap.

I have no experience with 5 channel amps. But why not just run 2 seperate amps?

Scrap the rears, bridge the fronts (or find a 3chn), build a better box, perhaps upgrade the subs and if that isn't enough buy a used Memphis Belle...but keep in mind the impedance of the subs you buy.

Thanx guys , I going to up-grade the power wire to 4ga, re-check the deck settings.

The Alpine 9813 has time delay, crossover settings,Parametric EQ.

I changed nothing on the deck, but I changed boxes and added a extra sub.

The Polks call for .65 cu ft it now has .95 cu ft.

SQ is the goal not SPL or Rap boom.

I want to stay a single amp for wiring ease and space issues.

I agree 100% with M5.... ditch the rear speakers, they're not helping anything.... with the rears gone you can bridge the channels and run your components better.... and to get more bass, build a new enclosure that is the correct size.... and upgrade your power and ground wires to a good 4 AWG.... those things will help more than you can imagine and if you're truly looking for SQ, will get you closer to your goal...

My friend has the kicker 5 channel on the same subs and it hits pretty good for what it is....I would make sure your phase is correct on your subs or make sure your box is ok. His box is a prefab subthump box.

Phase is good, both subs are connected + to+ to Amp + .

I will add some material to the sub box to shrink up air space, get it closer to ,65 cu ft.

Thanx every one.

I gave up on the 5-channel amp idea for the truck.

Pioneer Amps.

Where do they stack up in the amp world now?

I don`t compete or am I looking for that perfect sound stage.

I need a solid quality, reliable amp.

Pioneer GM-D8400M 300x1 4 ohm, 600 x1 2 ohm.

PIONEER GM6400F 60x 4 4 ohm.

I got these cheap off Ebay.

I,m moving the PDX-5 75x4-300x1 to the Trans Am , selling the 5 channel Hifonics Zues 55x4-200x1.

The Polk MM series 5.25 front and 6x9 rear and the new 12 MM will really like the Alpine power .

The HU for the TA is Alpine 9833.

spend a couple hundred more and get a Zed Audio Leviathan If i'm not mistaken you can run 4 for mids/highs and bridge channel 5+6 and use it as sub stage amp "Channels 5+6 will do full range or Low Pass (mono or stereo) with a variable subsonic crossover."

Sexy amplifier! leviathan__83049.jpg

I concur 110%. I have two of these beauties and they are the best bang 4 the buck, for a system amp,

that I have ever seen (and esp have actually heard). Most 5/6 channel system amps just do not have

enough juice for a decent sub setup (see Alpine PDX5 etc). My friend had, past tense, one of those,

and it was just not enough on his pair of 10's.

Thanx every one.

I have added material inside the boxes to reduce internal volume , played around with the EQ, it all helped some .

In fact I may have like the bigger .95 box volume over the smaller recommended .65 .

Music wise it sounds great.

I was hoping for more impact , but 300 watts going to two 10 in subs just does not get it done!

This late spring when I have warmer weather I will add 4 ga wire, install the Pioneer amps, make any upgrades as needed.

I have the two amps now Pioneer GM- 6400F 60x4 @ 4 ohms and the Pioneer GM-8400M 600 watts @ 2 ohms.

They appear solid and of decent quality really no different than the Alpine PDX-5 they are replacing .

However the PDX-5 is really small and powerful for its small size.

We will see how they sound later, I do hate giving up the small size for more power though..
