Posted January 15, 201015 yr So my friend blew his 10" PowerBass sub in his pickup truck the other day.. He sent it off to be repaired, and wanted to get something cheap to replace it til it gets back. He goes and buys a 60$ Sony Xplode from wal-mart. He called me up and asked me if I would install his new sub.. not telling me it was a Xplod. So I get to his house and start laughing. But nonetheless, I put it in for him. After it was wired up, I had to see how it sounded.. The Xplod sounded 2x as good, and loud as the PB ever though about being.SMH. The PB was a DVC 4 ohm sub, and the Xplod is a SVC 4 ohm.. I just thought this was pretty humorous, since the local car audio dealer charged him 100$+ for that POS sub.
January 15, 201015 yr Tell him to return the Xplod now that he can.Sell that subwoofer to a local dealer or any of his friends for $50 and go buy a real sub man.By any chance, what amp does he have?

January 15, 201015 yr You would be amazed how some subs sound when you think they were garbage, thats how I felt about Sony Xplods till I got my hands on some about 5 years back, thought they were ok but damn sure not good or the best. Thats what helped me to learn that almost any sub in a good well built enclosure will sound good.
January 15, 201015 yr The sony was likely getting twice the power that the Powerbass was, which should be a noticeable increase in output. Not that I'm defending either product.

January 15, 201015 yr So actually the Sony was receiving the least amount of watts then, that is even better.
January 15, 201015 yr really if you're friend likes it and cannot tell its shit then don't make him waste money. Just set things up so he doesn't blow it.

January 18, 201015 yr Is the amp mono? If not, he wasn't running the PB at 2 ohms because I imagine the amp couldn't handle it. Bridged, at least. If he had it at 2 ohms on just one channel but then bridged the amp for the Sony, the Sony was still getting twice the power.
