Posted February 23, 201015 yr i just planned to put my 18 btl in a 6th order bandpass (60 hz / 30 hz tuning) and i already got the wood sawed too.ive never tried a bp yet so i thought it would be nice to give it a chance.what do you think? is it better to put the btl in a big ported box or go with the 6 th order.i currently have a 5 cft ported box @ 30 hz but i want to increase efficiency and loudness of the box. amp is a bxi 2610. February 23, 201015 yr Put that sub in a bigger enclosure if your gonna stick with 5ft^3 then you should of got the 15" instead.
February 23, 201015 yr Author yes thats what i know too.the question is either a 6th order bandpass (~7 cft net volume) or a ported box (~7 cft net volume).
February 23, 201015 yr Bandpass will yeild more output, they are very hard to get to sound right though.
February 23, 201015 yr Author i designed one chamber 2,5 cft @ 60 hz and the other one 4,8 cft @ 30 hz.ive never build a bp before, do you think this will work fine?
February 23, 201015 yr Just try it out. No harm in experimenting. At least you'll have more knowledge afterwards if it doesn't work out quite right. But if it does, then you'll have both more knowledge and a good working result.
February 23, 201015 yr bandpass it man i got a BTL 15 in a 6th order hit a 147 at 2 ohms last weekend they get loud and if done right sound VERY good!!!
February 24, 201015 yr bandpass it man i got a BTL 15 in a 6th order hit a 147 at 2 ohms last weekend they get loud and if done right sound VERY good!!!What does impedance have to do with that statement?
February 25, 201015 yr Author nothing lolwhat speaker wire should i use?in my current box i have 8 awg to each coil. does 12 awg also work well?
February 25, 201015 yr nothing lolwhat speaker wire should i use?in my current box i have 8 awg to each coil. does 12 awg also work well?12 will work fine, 8 is overkill on subwoofers in my opinion (to some competitors they may say 8 is better if your chasing tenths on the meter).
February 25, 201015 yr Author If it's not "dead on balls" accurate it will sound badwhy will it sound bad?
February 25, 201015 yr If it's not "dead on balls" accurate it will sound badwhy will it sound bad?Because with a 6th order there is NO room for error.
February 26, 201015 yr Author If it's not "dead on balls" accurate it will sound badwhy will it sound bad?Because with a 6th order there is NO room for error.oh i reffered it to the 8 awg cable xDhope that the 6 th order will be right. its my first bp...

February 26, 201015 yr Author i have built six ported enclosures.but i still can improve and learn alot in enclosure building.
February 26, 201015 yr If your goal is to be loud, expect that your first few attempts will not be as loud as just a ported enclosure. If you are willing to build, re-build, then re-build again perhaps you'll get there. I'd just recommend sticking to ported generically speaking for you.
February 26, 201015 yr the independance had nothing to do with the statement other than saying that it would have been even louder than that at .5 ohm and it still sounds amazing if done right
