As most of us know the RL-i 8 is not avaliable anymore.

It is being revamped by Mike to be made that much better.

So far, all i know about the new RL-i 8 is the surround will be changed to something softer, yes, no more high rol. As well as a different spider.

But what about that cone ?????

I love the spun black aluminum on all the other woofers.

The old RL-i 8 used the not so nice painted aluminum cone.

Any chance in getting the new one to have that sweet spun blacK aluminum ?

It's not my product, so I'll share what I've seen mentioned pubicly...

The original rl-i 8's were made up with mostly off the shelfs parts, with Mike's recipe.

The revamped 8's will be made up entirely as Mike see's fit.... hence the delay. The buildhouse has to re-tool / develop custom tooling.

The revamped 8's will be heartier with addtional suspension, however the thermal handling and such will remain the same.

so i guess the xmax is not going to be no where near the 8w7's xmax

i hope the power handling will remain the same.....and still have its beefy look

Its not far from it, i think its 1mm or so

You guys got it pretty well covered - until I receive the new surround and cone, I won't be able to commit to the rest of the driver (since we need the retooled parts for testing purposes, and ultimately decision making). For now, the driver is shaping up as follows:

- NBR Rubber surround (not high roll)

- Spun Aluminum Cone

- 10-spoke cast Basket

- TC2+ motor (2" voicecoil)

So far as the suspension is concerned, that is one of the things we will be toying with once the new surround and cone arrive (hopefully later this month or early next). I would like to add a second spider, but this will be decided upon real-world testing and not speculation.. which means we'll have to wait and see! All in all, my goals for the redesign are to offer greater low frequency extension, improved sensitivity/efficiency, and a stronger product overall.

Estimated public release will be early Fall / September. Once we start crankin' out the proto's I will surely post more concrete information. If you'd like to be kept on a notification list for availability, go ahead and email me requesting as such :)

sounds like this could be another sweet product

Sweetness, he is using the spun aluminum

Nuttin but the best for us :fing34: . What kind of mounting depth are we talking?

yea man just wait a while and your subs will be collectors item museum pieces.

I might be up for it, not sure what I would do with it at the moment

Just knowing that you have a lethal 8" sub makes me giggle.

Shure 2 18's have high wow factor, but when you pull out the 8, people woll take a 2nd glance

I would probably be in on this as well.

Hoping it is in early September, that would time well with when I'd probably be in the market for a small driver...

hey I have been wonering about putting one in a TL box for a while now, this would be a great excuse to build it

doooo it.

And the 8" is small enough you can fuss around with the enclosure (which you will have to, with a TL :)) and not really worry about it. A proper TL for a 15" or 18" will be much more of a headache.
