Posted May 6, 201015 yr Ive been trolling here for awhile getting ideas and researching various things and I finally have a reason to post. Im posting because I need some advice. I had 2 15" alpine type R subs come way for dirt cheap. $150 for both I need help deciding on an enclosure, an amp, and even a head unit. I honestly dont know my 'goals' as its been a very long time since I have had a system. A long time ago when they were new I had 1 MTX 9500 sub that I really enjoyed.I listen to all kinds of music, mainly rap/pop and rock with some heavier stuff (Avenged Sevenfold)This will all be going into a 1998 Eclipse GSXAs far as budget, im somewhat flexible, Lets say I'd like to stay under 1k. However if it takes more to do it right im ok with it. The only thing that I absolutely want is that the head unit has to be able to play mp3's from a usb drive I would really like to be able to use a Sundown amp as Ive heard great things but again im flexible if its needed to get the job done right. Here's a link to the sub's I have for easy reference:http://signature.crutchfield.com/S-64DLGMoy21c/s_500SWR1542/Alpine-SWR-1542D.htmlThanks everyone and let me know if I forgot to supply any info. May 6, 201015 yr Amp: SAZ-1500D SSA Shop - Sundown Audio SAZ-1500D amplifier(We need to know the impedance of the drivers)Head Unit: IVA-D106 Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. Enclosure: Contact DL Designz for enclosure fabrication and designs at [email protected]^ Notify them as referred by Domenico Zerilli ^EDIT: I know that head unit is expensive from Alpine but Ebay has them! May 6, 201015 yr If your 15's are dual 4-ohm coils the Sundown SAZ-1500D should be great, you will be able to run all coils parrallel giving a 1-ohm load.As far as head unit I'm sure BanginGMC has a good reason for his suggestion on head unit. I have been using a Sony MEX-BT5700U http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665755310 It has the USB feature you requested, 3 RCA 4-volt preouts and my favorite feature is I can play music off my I-phone wireless through the Bluetooth. Do a search and can find for less than $250.Welcome to the forum and good luck on your build.
May 6, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the quick replies, exactly the info/advice I needed. I tested them this morning and they have dual 4 ohm voice coils. One thing I'm wondering after thinking about it, will it be worth using both drivers vs. only 1? Lets say for the moment we decide to use both drivers, and go with the sundown 1500d. Running them at 1ohm would push 1500 watts to them correct? Would it be safer to run them at 2 ohm and 800 watts considering the drivers are only rated at 750 RMS? Edited May 6, 201015 yr by aemeth
May 6, 201015 yr umm 1500 divide by 2 = 750? isn't that what the drivers are rated at? also keep in mind more cone area = more db's and more power also =more db's and yes sundown is an awesome amp to usehave you given any thought to yoru cars electrical? extra batteries, h/o alt, big 3 etc..?also keep in mind since you got d4 subs you can only run a 1ohm or 4ohm load so no 2ohm load for you sorry
May 6, 201015 yr 1500/2 is 750. that amp is a perfect match for your drivers. If you don't want to use both of the subs you can mail me one
May 6, 201015 yr 1500/2 is 750. that amp is a perfect match for your drivers. If you don't want to use both of the subs you can mail me one lmoa or mail him one!!! lol nice!!other then that if you are worried you will blow one of them due to improper gain settings or an odd mp3 not being normallized and potential doing damage to the subs jsut turn the amps gain down some and let them break in before giving them full power?

Im a moron and totally forgot I needed to divide by the number of drivers (2)After reading your reply it prompted me to do some research, I didn't realize I couldnt run them at 2 ohms. I understand now though. Thanks for pointing that out. I havent gotten as far as thinking about electrical requirements yet, I know there' s a way to mount a saturn 110 amp alternator, I will do that considering my factory only pushes 90 amps unless you think I will need more than 110? Let me search 'big 3' and i'll get back to you lol 1500/2 is 750. that amp is a perfect match for your drivers.
