I have 2 15" Xcons with a Sundown 3000 with a 1400kinetik in the back.

So I let my little brother take the car out to get some food,

and he comes back and says, "Your bass is not on...".

He knows better than to abuse my system so I go take a look.

Seems like he took a sharp turn because the power wire was just barely in.

So I decided to clean up the look of the wires and replaced the speaker wire making it shorter,

and reconnecting the power wire. I then went for a spin and everything was sound great again...

Then all of a sudden I begin to smell something unusual, I have pushed subs before and know the

normal smell but there was a different smell, so I turned down my stereo and pull over.

One sub is extremely hot and the other is cool...they are both working.

Before I go out to mess with everything again I was seeing if anyone on here could give me something

to look for or anything, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the speaker wire connections on the woofers? Its possible one coil is disconnected on one sub.

or they are wired wrong, one at .5 ohm and one at 2 ohm, you never know...

Yea might have reconnected the speaker wires in a wrong order? Hope you didnt push it past its limits already!! GL with it!

I had double checked the speaker wires and I am almost positive they are

all connected correctly. If I by some chance mixed them up wouldn't both speakers have

the same ohm load then?

After looking at my subs again when I turn them up one seems to be moving more

than the other but the one that is not moving as much is the one that is getting very hot.

I guess ill take the sub out and take a look at it then redo the speaker wire again just to make sure

everything is ok.

it happenned to me two weeks ago and i was 100% sure the subs were hooked right. I realize my mistake few days after they were out actually.....

Based on what u said, sounds like one of the coils burned up or the tinsel lead snapped from too much current.

That nasty smell.. was is a strong, sweet but electrical smell? A lot stronger than your typical stinch from subs with a little aftersmell to it?

That's the smell of burnt coils\leads.

The fact that u say that oen sub is moving more than the other fits this speculation perfectly.

If i were you, i would NOT crank it up until you verify this and fix if necessary.

If it was just the tinsel lead, solder it back on.

HIGHLY unlikely to be the tinsel as they have 4 lead wires sandwiched into the suspension.

Most likely, one is wired in series and one parrellell, or one of the wires simply came unhooked.

The intention was to over build the Xcon a great deal. But people are still pushing them way past their limits, that is to be expected regardless of the driver.

I have used this setup for over a year with no problems when rewiring everything i accidently wired one of the subs wrong, was a total accident.
