Posted June 18, 201015 yr Got a 12" BTL in 2.8cuft enclosure at 30Hz.Upgraded from a BL, and well, it took about a week to get used to the BTL.I have 31" x 18" x 16" of enclosure space available, maximum. (largest I can fit in trunk opening)However there's some space around enclosure once in.Would like to upgrade to something else.31 x 18 x 16 = 4.0cuft internal before displacement with 3/4 MDFWould like 12" Q's. Can it be done using external areo ports?Or what are my other options? I have a 2500D amplifier.Goals are to move more air than the 12" BTL, and I prefer lows.
June 18, 201015 yr to move more air you more cone area I.E. get a 15 or an 18 or another btl12 to go with the one you have. and i'd probably get rid of the back dash speakers so that there is somewhere for the air to move. i'd say 2 good 15's that will handle the full power of your amp and build a box in the trunk using every bit of room u got with them facing into the cab. hell 1 btl 15 in the right box should be plenty

I figure that's really important?
June 18, 201015 yr WTF? How is it fine if its not enough? I say build a new box and do some testing on your system. Aeroports will help reduce the needed gross size of the box if you do decide to go with two subs in that area. And what amp do you actually have? Also, what are you reallying wanting? More lows or more output on the top end?
June 18, 201015 yr Author I could do a 15" BTL in 3.0cuft enclosure after displacement with 43 square inches of port @ 30.5Hz?Box might be too small though.Fuck my car. Edited June 18, 201015 yr by b34tBoX

Too large?Amplifier is Soundstream Rubicon 2500DOK, then what size aeroports would I need for 28-32Hz with an enclosure size of 4cuft before displacement for those two 12" Q's, or one 15" BTL. June 18, 201015 yr Author Alright, change of plans. Here's my final decision, thanks for bearing with me. =]I'm going to do the 15" BTL in 4.0cuft enclosure with aeroports.Would like it tuned to 30Hz.Now how do I figure out the port dimensions?
June 18, 201015 yr Your maximum dimensions you gave are right at 4 cuft. You would have to subtract bracing volume and sub volume if you use external port. I'd say no on that 15".
June 18, 201015 yr I would upgrade to a better box instead...But i just like to build boxes and get louder with the same equipment.
June 18, 201015 yr hey its possible to fit large objects in small spaces its all about the determination...lolinstead of buying a new btl just try other box's and maybe a sundown or cresendo 3kw amp since there the same and like 1/2 the pricewhat ohm load u wired at?

You would have to subtract bracing volume and sub volume if you use external port. I'd say no on that 15".Okay, so 4cuft minus .21 displacement = 3.89cuft.I don't think I would need extra bracing. I don't with the 12" anyways.Fi says 3-5cuft for 15BTL.I had thumper build me a box that was 2cuft after displacement for the 12BTL and it sounded great.Fi recommends 1.75-3cuft for that size, so I don't see why 3.79cuft wouldn't work for a 15".PS: I could always use some hardening resin on the outside of the enclosure to stiffen the box up if need be. I suppose? Edited June 19, 201015 yr by b34tBoX
June 20, 201015 yr Author I'm wondering if two 12" Q's in a sealed enclosure would be better than my 12BTL in ported?Would they be able to play as low? <30Hz
June 21, 201015 yr I'm wondering if two 12" Q's in a sealed enclosure would be better than my 12BTL in ported?Would they be able to play as low? <30HzDon't do the 2 Q sealed. Just my 2cts. You seem to want more low. Why did you get a btl ? I don't know if it is the best choice for your goal.Maybe you should try the famous ssa xcon ?
July 11, 201015 yr With your vehicle it sounds like you just need to work on your enclosure. The audible difference between one ported and two sealed subs on the same power will not be that great, and you'll find that you spent a lot of money "upgrading" just to be let down a week or so later. Sounds like you really need to look into vehicles like hatch backs and SUVs.
